There must be a problem with the services or lack of it with the columbus Georgia department of labor.Just as the previous comments I have applied for position that have just posted to be told that they are no longer available. Now Mr. Thurmond this is not a good way to find a job for every Georgian and a Georgian for every job. This matter needs to be addressed as soon as possible so that a Georgian for every job may find that job for every Georgian.

sweetheart you must don,t know who michael thurmon is , he is the commissioner of the ga. dept of labor his office can help, i am not saying he will get you the job but he will make sure they will remove all the job off the list that have been filled. i understand what you are saying back in march of 2006 ajc newspaper had a job posted i went to the job they told me that the job had been filled since feb.it's not the ga. dept of labor it's not the people who post the jobs, it's the people that supposed to be doing the hiring. they don't call to have the job removed, and sometime i think they be lying they don't be hiring anyway.

when you put in your referral call the ga. dept. of labor and let them know , they will ask you for the referral#. i had put in about 20 referral back in march i never did hear from them, i call michael thurmond office on nov. 6 and told them what had happen, then i put in another one last week and call the office and they gave me the information, it did no good the employer never call me back.

You know that's ashamed that the people who are really looking for jobs can't finf=d them and the agencys that are suppose to help can't or won't I've had more luck with the temp agency's. Maybe we should start helping one another.

I have been looking for a job with the Cobb County department of labor since May and have had the same luck. I either get referrals and noone calls or I get a notice saying the job I'm trying to get a referral for is no longer available. Then why still have them posted? They really need to update jobs more often.

The DOL has only so many referrals they can accept for a job position. If 20 people apply within three hours than that job is closed out. The 20 names, applications are submitted to the employer for review. Sometimes if the employer doesn't hire someone out of that 20 referrals they will post that job again. Also, the DOL plays the number game. They have to place customers, do follow up and place information in the system. I have to admitt they do a lot of work for the community and job placement services. They work with thousands of customers and hundreds of employers. Give them a little credit. They still place workers with employers.

I have been applying for jobs through the One Stop Career Center here in Aiken, SC. I started applying in April 2006, I go in once or twice each week and haven't found a job yet!! This is terrible! You spend so much time filling out 2 or 3 page applications and, for what? Just a waste of time. Aiken needs to raise their minimum wage which is $5.25/hr and do something about their One Stop centers or close them down!!!!

Hey it is what it is it's a mess the economy the goverment, the war. It's not funny that so many of our citizens are having a hard time finding decent jobs employers are trying to go the cheap way by going off shores to the philliphines (for exe.) and to India to hire people for half of what American's should be paid and some times less than that! But when they go to these countries and the cost of living is less they have found a good job with good wages where as here it sucked to begin with because the cost of living ,gas, food and everything else is on a constant rise. The goverment agencies are so bogged down in so many ways that our citizens are recieving the (lol) gracious benefits of the mess.
