Every business has its own style. What is the office environment and culture like at H&m?

Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?

What is a typical day in the life of an employee at H&m?

The overall environment at H&M is very tense, depending on your store. All employers are expected to work very hard x 100. If you managed to ring up 150 guests within an hour, management would say you could have done twice as that. There is never a slow day on the floor. You are never congratulated for your hard work unless it effects sales and the bottom line.
Expectations are very unrealistic and at times outrageous. Associates are expected to do their job, their supervisors job and at times the job of visuals. Management like to pick and choose when they should step in as an effective manager, which puts a lot on the associate.
Documentations and correctives are given out like toys in Happy Meals. H&M thinks that corrective action is the only motivator for the associates, so expect to work while on egg shells during your time of employment. The employee handbook is a complete joke considering management like to pick and choose what policies to go by. When it comes to what an associate is entitled to according to the handbook, it falls on deaf ears. However, discipline according to the book is always followed and it's a great tool for managers to manipulate their associates.
Store policies and expectations are always changing and each time they change, it all falls down to associates working even harder than they did beforehand. Be prepared to work very long hours and you'll be lucky if you can take your lunch and 15 min break on time.
Some managers can be very condescending and manipulative. If they don't like you, be prepared to be treated as so. The handbook states a "no retaliation" policy, but there are ways around it and managers have mastered it.
If the store doesn't make any money, your hours will cut cut, so GOD help you if this is your only source of income and you have bills to pay...
