What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable? How does Hallmark Cards stack up against the competition? |

Hallmark will not make it. Old ideas, no out-of-the-box thinking. The competition is beating them up. Old money under new leadership that doesn't have an idea of how to make it work. Firing or letting go of non-salaried employees, while keeping management in tact. Current employees constantly on the edge, afraid of losing their jobs on a daily basis. Employees having to post for their own jobs and getting canned if they do not qualify. Especially any employees with any kind of seniority. Cheaper for company to get rid of senior employees. Current employees keeping their heads low, and out of sight. "Inevitable"? It has already started...one department of 36 people just disappeared. Gone. Within the next 1-2 yrs there is going to be more, order processing is going to be gone, no need for those people, straight from store to warehouse. Computer programs are being set up now. It is not the company it used to be, Hallmark has joined the "corporate" world, cut-throat, unfriendly. |

They laid off about 60 Kelly temps who worked in the warehouse on Manning RD in Enfield ,CT Monday 1/12/09. They said it had to do with the sales report that came in last Friday. Things aren't looking to good for Old Hallmark. They were also asking warehouse people to take VTO time up to 3 months. Well I'm heading off to unemployment. Jim |
