Do you work at Hertz? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

I had a job interview with a local Tampa recruiter through school and they were offering crap (outside sales). Enterprise is better because their positions are not outside commission work. Hertz is more of high turnover outside sales comapany. I even recognized the recruiter from a job fair I attended a few years back.

When I first spoke to the recruiter at the job fair, he wasn't straight with me, so when Hertz came on campus, I signed up for an interview. They advertise their positions as management trainee to suck you in but in reality you have to do a lot of outside door-to-door soliciting to drum up business and meet sales quotas while working for $10 an hour plus commission.

Does that sound like fun? After the guy explained all this to me, I said no thank you. I don't know about you but I didn't go to college to degrade myself and get doors slammed in my face.

If you're looking for an entry level outside sales position, then Hertz is the way to go. However, I highly recommend you look elsewhere first, b/c the low pay, long hours, ridiculus goals and quotas, and micromanagement make it a fairly unpleasant environment. Did I mention you may have to wash a car or two, or twenty??? However companies know that Hertz has a good Manager Trainee program, and they know if you worked at Hertz you can multi-task and are a hard worker. I worked there for almost 3 years so my best advice is from day one, start putting a brag book together, strive to be #1 and start looking a job after 1 year of service. Have a goal of attaining at least Assistant Branch Manager status within 12-18 months so that way when you leave you can at least have "from MT to ABM" on your resume. Do not give this company more than 18 months of your life. Trust me!!!

THE ONLY REASON TO WORK HERE IS TO GET THE TITLE MANAGER ON YOU RESUME. I worked with Hertz and started as a Manager Trainee. From day 1 I could smell a rat. The pay was low and the commission was nothing. You have to sell a lot of fuel, insurance and upgrades to get a good check. The hours are super long with 1-day off. My hours were 7am-6pm, but did'nt clock out until 730p or 8pm. I worked at an HLE which is a local neighborhood Hertz office. We would run out of cars all the time. It was a busy location. Bodyshops, car dealerships, hotels and regular customers came in. Lots of complaints. I wanted to stay one year so when the next company asked, how long were you with Hertz, I wouldnt say 6-months or 10-months. A year and month and I was gone. I surprised them with the 2-week notice. Two top managers tried to entice me with a promotion. Yeah right! Now they try that. Even when it was my last day, they said you think you can stay 1-2 weeks longer till we could find someone. I was like "No". I left them high and dry, right before busy summertime. The main reason, I was a hard worker, did more than ever. No social life. I was so tired everyday. Big turn over. My whole team left one after the other by the end of summer. I left with the title Associate Manager. Now when I go interviews the title sounds good, but thats about it. It's a joke to have a degree and wash lots of cars in you tie and slacks and make $11.hr + tiny comm.
