Every business has its own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Home Depot - the Home Depot, Human Resources? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Home Depot - the Home Depot, Human Resources? |

Company culture is built on 8 core values that include "Respect for all People", "Doing the Right Thing" and "Taking care of our People". The environment is casual. As for HR, the company has a corporate HR Dept. that is based in Atlanta. On the store level, the HR Admin position is called the ASDS, or Associate Support & Development Supervisor. I had this job, until I was fired a couple weeks ago after an investigation was conducted in our store. The entire management team was terminated all on the same day. It was BAD. |

HD is a WONDERFUL company and has a very laid back, casual enviornment. I with HD for 6 years as an HR Manager until they laid off all of their HR Mgrs in April 2008. I LOVED working for HD and was promoted 3 times in 3 different stores around the Southeast. The people are great and really love the company. The only thing I would caution you about is that you must like to work nights (till about 10 or 11pm depending on the store) and you must like to work weekends (Saturday is their busiest day) because in Retail, you will always work nights and weekends. This can get kind of crazy if you have kids or your a single parent, but you can deal with it. I loved the company, how great they were to their employees, and the pride that was exhibited by Home Depot and its employees. I would still be there today if I had not been laid off!! HD is AWESOME!! |

When I interviewed for the position, I asked what the potential for growth is (in-house promotions). They said that there definitely is. |

Thx Apply on line thru www.homedepot/careers.com, then the best way is to go MEET in person the Store Manager of the store or stores you are interested working at. Get on a first name basis with that Store Manager and when he has an opening, most likely, he will call you as long as your application is in the computer. Also, after you meet him, whenever you go in the store, just drop in his office and say Hello....remember me? Dont forget about me. DONT bug him/her everyday, but about once a week. Also, get to know the ASDS (scheduler), they usually do the prescreening and pull the applications for the Store Manager. Good Luck! |

USUALLY, they work Mon, Tues, Wed and take off either Thur or Fri, and work Saturday. Most Store Managers are required to work Saturday mornings....but Saturday is not a good day to go meet them, due to the fact that it is the busiest shopping day of the week. Usually, Mon, Tue or Wed is a good day and if your already working, MOST usually work Wed night...but you can always call ahead and ask when they are in or if you go in the Store tomorrow, ask when the Store Manager will be in that week or what his normal schedule generally is. THIS does not apply to every Store Manager, but it is GENERALLY the NORM...of course there are exceptions to every rule!! Good Luck!! |
