Ive worked for Home Depot for 6 yrs and just got fired aug 2009. Ive seen a little of everything.they have fired all of the in store hr`s, and replaced them with robot let call this robot stain this guy has no feelings. he actual brags on how many associates he gets fired when he trains new associates in training. he told one of his classes that his wife works for home depot, and when she would come home to rest she would bring up things that had happened at her location. he would get in contact with her store manager, and get that person fired, and then laugh about it I`ve seen three different store managers, and Ive lost count of ASM that have been fired with service of over 21 yrs. Lancaster S.C. Home depot fired me because I was Helping a customer, and didn't do what they wanted me to do quick enough.I was helping a customer in the flooring department when I was assigned to be a door greeter. because I made a decision to help the customers, and not door greet I was fired for Insubordination, but there always shouting about customer service.Ive saved ever customer survey that had my name on, and I have over 3 yrs of customer comments that would make any store manager or district manager happy.but nooo not the store manager at store 8913 he would just look at me and say oh good job. but let it be one of his ass cleaners, and he would praise them though out the store.Ive seen some in your face racist remarks, and actions by associates, and Management. Note to everyone who`s ever called the Aware hot line! ITS NOT PRIVATE REPEAT IT IS NOT PRIVATE! I had a District Manager of Human Resource Look me in my face and tell she Knows I called and when I denied it she says and I quote(STOP LIEING I KNOW IT WAS YOU WHO CALLED)told me everything I said on the aware line. I use to love going to work for home depot, but if lowes hire me I making this promise I will out sale ever carpet Associate you have at that store.every customer that I had Iam going to bring them to lowes

Well, where do I start? Was with the orange box for 16 years to the date, held many positions from LPM to District Safety Manager to HRM in the stores, have had to re-apply 5 different times for various positions as the company will eliminate positions and RE-NAME them!!

When the company eliminated the positions of Hr's in the store, once again I had to re-apply for the district level HR positions which consisted of 4 HR's per district, I was one of the choosen, 1 yr later I got a phone call (Jan 09) and was told that my position was eliminated as a district Talent HR manager because they were realligning the district and since I lived in the PHX area and I had the river/mountain locations I was let go, due to the fact I lived in PHX and the other 3 lived in the mountain area's!! Remember I have 16 yrs with the company!!!

I was also told OVER THE PHONE OF MY POSITION BEING ELIMINATED AND I SHOULD BE HAPPY WITH MY SEVERANCE PACKAGE AND TO TOP IT OFF!! NOT TO REACH OUT to my SM's or the DM since they did not know that the district was being realigned!!

I have extensive experience within this organisation in LP/Safety/HR and was not given a position !!! 16 years worth of management.. No documentations in my file or any conversations of such!! You talk about a slap in the face, my family or friends will never shop this retailer again!!! This company really surprised me with this as I really thought I would retire with them as I have always had very positive reviews with them and have applied myself to exceed in any position I applied for and had gotten!!

Needless to say, That's all I can say, and my story is very true to the detail...

I've worked at HD for a total of 3yrs. Recently I was terminated for being tardy. My reviews have always been good and I've been told repeatedly that I was a "Valued" employee and a "go-to" guy with a great work ethic. My offense? I was 13 min. late for a 5am shift. The last time I was punished for being "tardy" I was in 6th grade. In fairness to HD, I'd had my 3rd warning and SOP says if you're late, you're out. No excuses (though I have my reasons).

I have noticed the culture changing, as if mgmt is now constantly on the lookout for reasons to cut personel (payroll). What was once a happy workplace has turned into a stressful, grim location. It is usually understaffed and thus the associates and mgmt staff are overworked and constantly following conflicting orders sent via Blackberry.

The economy? Wall Street? All I know is I'm out of a job I liked, looking at Thanksgiving and Christmas with no paycheck. Oh well - Such is the Orange Life.

Thanks for letting me vent - Lowes here I come (maybe out of the frying pan and into the fire).

Unfortunately it is survival of the fittest. basically its all about numbers, every time you have an attendance issue you have a strike against you, the hr managers get these stats, and there comes a time when the store does "sweeps" in order to reduce payroll. They then issue a list of employees to terminate and the ASMs have to do the dirty work. The only one who can stay your sentence is the Store manager, and in most cases, unless you're a superstar, start looking for another job...I know this because I have access to the manager's email and i didn't believe it either till i saw it for myself. So don't get p O'd at the managers, they're just doing what they're told. ultimately it is you who didn't protect your job in this sucky economy, sorry...

Thanks for your reply. In my case, I don't feel any animosity towards the managenent. I understand the economics and the corp culture. As I said, "no excuses". It still stings, but I like the people I've worked with and understand the pressure they have to deal with. Ot is what it is and I slipped.

Maggie, I worked for the SOBs for 15 years, my last 4 as a District Manager. I can tell you that in the 3 years since I have been gone I have come to realize it was a blessing to get out.
You will feel that way too soon enough.

Hi! Maggie, At least you survived the first round of "re-org" - layoff of all SHRMs. I did not. It was ridiculous in the Philly area. They kept all the incompetent - non-HR experienced SHRMs. I was with Depot for 7 yrs (outside hire w/ 10 yrs of real HR experience) when they introduced the concept of SHRMs - yes, it was in response to the class action suit. Some of us saw the handwriting on the wall and questioned why they were sending out new SOP with the phrase " Store HR Administrator/Coordinator" and not SHRM. They said it was a typo... Ha!

During my 7 years there, my life was threatened - with signs and real guns- and Depot did nothing.... I was verbally and physically threatned by employees on a regular basis and Depot did nothing... I never had anything in my file the entire 7 years. I contacted Atlanta several times for help and that put me on the "persona non grata" list in my district.

In the reorg in April 08, they selected a District HRM with no previous HR experience, fired from 3 stores as an HRM and failed the first round of interviews when they introduced the concept of SHRMs. If that wasn't bad enough, she "f***** her way to the top with every SM she worked with and she was MARRIED! The good news, she is gone - don't know if she was fired - back working as a customer service rep. she started as a Cashier and the new DM she worked with was fired along with 5 other SMs for markdowns! What goes around - comes around and yes, you will be better off and very marketable with your diverse Depot experience! I was lucky and got a job right away as an HR Director making 20K more than Depot paid me. Depot does not want competent, intelligent people... they want "yes" people who will act like robots... You're in very good company, now that you're gone and you will come up better than any of them and happier. Hang in there.... it will happen. The best day of my life was when Depot said "good-bye".....

frankster in AURORA, Colorado said: HRJO is giving you bad info. Sounds like a store manager to me. If you have only had two complaints, they will be hard pressed to justify getting rid of you unless they have always fired all other associates after only two complaints. ie. What if you have been an associate for ten years and these are the only complaints you have ever gotten? I can assure you that most of the associates in the store have had more complaints than that. EEOC will investigate at no cost to you.

Hello, I am not a SM... and if you are/were an HRM you should know any Depot w/employee with 10 yrs + experience can not get fired without VP approval.. and they say they are not a "union" environment.

Do you really think it's ok to have time and attendance issues at lowes? lets stop making the HD the villain and own up to our screw ups. the fact is there's hundreds of out of work people who would kill to get your job, and if you're late and/or absent a lot they're gonna have your job. life sucks and then you die.

Hold on my friend, I'm not some kid who takes important things lightly. I've raised a family, bought homes, put people through college and fought in a war. My work ethic at HD was very good as is proven by my reviews. My wife and I are raising our grandson (1 1/2 yrs old) and there have been times we've had to scramble at the last minute because of baby sitter problemas. We're not talking about no-call no-show or being hours late caused by a hangover. We're talking about (after the 7 min grace period) 6 minutes - 8 minutes - 10 minutes and in one case 1-minute. Oe of the times listed on my termination sheet was actually excused by an ASM, but they told me he didn't have that authority.

Since HD put in the new clocks, there's no wiggle room and I made no excuses, stated my case and left without an escort and without burning any bridges.

That being said I HAVE whitnessed how certain Dhs and certain associates can laugh and work around the rules and still be covered with Homer Badges and awards while good hard working people are ignored or terminated for Mickey Mouse reasons.

If you don't fall into the first catagory, then you may want to watch your back. Payroll is the biggest expense of any company and if you don't think the accountants in Atlanta are charged with trimming the fat any way possible, then you're delusional.

With Respect,
RT

Sure mr know it all, there happens to be a memo in the schedulers office that clearly says to fax all schedule variances to the HR manager on Mondays at 8am, maybe that's how things are done in NYCs sewer pipe, but here in CA The HRs handle all attendance issues, so get a clue. As for Ray, i'm sorry for your unfortunate situation, and I wish you luck

Thanks for the good luck wishes and I hope you continue to be happy at HD. As Lionides says in the movie "300", "there's no reason we can't be cival."

In "Blows" defence though, I never judged comments in a forum like this by spelling or grammer. And judging from the managers I've known, they were rairly hired or promoted based on their command of the language.

Maggie, sorry to hear they treated you so bad. HRJO I had a very similar experience. Western Division is pretty scummy starting with the fat boy at the top. As long as FF is around there will continue to be lies and deception. It doesn't seem there is any protection based on years of service. I wonder if that policy still really exists. Having them on the computer now they could do away with one and no one would ever know.

It is incredibly sad how these people mess with people's lives. But what comes around goes around.

Good Luck Maggie, you were good at what you did and didn't deserve that.

I've had enough of the name-calling, etc.

This is just an honest question about pay levels. If you don't mind, what kind of specialist position did you hold. After about 3-years I was making about half that amount and told I was lucky to get it. I was comnsidered promotable and was looking for any specialist or DH position I could move into.

Thanks, RT

From here it seems like the specialists and DHs are either underpaid or they are bound to keep their income levels to themselves. I've never heard of anyone in CT making that kind of money, with the exception of store managers and regional staff.

seriously I wouldn't lie to you, initially the salary was used to lure in pros for their new "image" of knowledgeable associates, once the building market crashed, the contractors were beating down the doors and I belive they reduced the starting salaries, I got in just in time, we have a plumbing pro that makes the same as me. When I applied, I got a call the very next day from the Store HR, when does that ever happen? One of these forums talked about Master specialist salaries, and it seems they range from about 17-28 dollars nationwide.
