I'm betting your HR knew you understood and cared. Usually we can tell who's jaded, uncaring, or just in it for a paycheck. Are you planning on moving up in the company or has this restructuring changed your plans?

It has been difficult to reach out to our peers for fear of hurt feelings, etc. Everyone is in such a different step of the job "grieving" process. Every hrm in our area was a respected colleague. I hope that we are all able to find opportunities that are worthy of us.

I'm glad my messages evoke some type of feelings. This is a form of reaching out. Working as a HD HR makes you a pretty tough damn cookies, so I hope all the pity parties are over. I'm not trying get sympathy or hatred for HD, just an understanding of how the #2 retailer can let this kind of sh** happen and we end up paying for their lack of business sense! Maybe those HD execs paid millions of dollars to should also be looking for opportunities worthy of them too! The unemployment line forms to the left!

Oh no, I've never cared about moving up with this company. Before I even started working for them, I kind of felt that retail was evil...although HD is technically my first and only retail employment. However, I've met a lot of people and well you got to work. I love my job, I just think it takes a great need or a certain type of person to move up in this company and when it comes to retail, I am not ambitious...just want to do a good job, go home, get some sleep, finish school and eventually quit. I think to a certain degree, you have to be a schmoozer...nothing wrong with that, but I'm bossy and I don't mind telling anyone and everyone how I feel if I think that they are wrong...or if I want to refuse to do something. Ha. But I love my job, my bosses and my co-workers usually love me. I think I do pretty awesome stuff...know my stuff, just don't have the ambition to do it. Some things are just hard to deal with and sometimes you have to make somewhat callous decisions and that is very unattractive to me.

I have seen first hand the things the bg-box retail HRms go through and these poor souls have to be eagerly searching fo a new job i know. I frinds that were Lowe's HRMs and they were on the verge of walking out after only 3 months. Retail is not for everyone and HR role do vary depending on the industry. Moreover, if you store has CRAPPY equipment and even worse processes in place your job as an HRM will be a living HELL!!!1

I make 56K/yr as the electrical dept DH. I was promoted from master specialist so I'm actually filling 2 jobs. I only work 40 hrs per week and I'm home for dinner with my family most days. My store asm's are pretty nice and I love my HD job.So please stop whining, If you're a hard worker, you'll get recognized and promoted, If you're a slacker and can't even get to work on time, then you'll probably hate working here. HD is without a doubt the best job I've ever had.

I have been with Home Depot for 12 years. I was a DH for 8 years by choice and finally took the offer to be an assistant manager at one point. I worked all kinds of crazy hours and had no problems with it. When I realized it wasn't worth it I took another position. I loved every year That I worked for Home Depot with the exception of this year. I gave 12 years of my life with them and gave them 110% every day. I recently became very sick and explained to the store manager that I need to try try to get rested and not work so late. I was ignored and now they try to find ways to write me up for every little thing. They get mad when they realize they can't. So now I have my doctor getting involved and I may have to get a lawyer involved. Just because some associates make $65K out there doesn't mean that everyone else out there is being appreciated. I was appreciated once but I was never naive to the rest of the world. I worked with many managers that have no idea how to be managers and "the good old boy system" still exist in some states. I have never, ever hated this company so much like I have this year because of the way they treat people and not just me. You can't talk to any part of management because you can't trust them. The DM is best friends with the HR and the wife of one of the store managers in the district ect... So before anyone criticizes others for speaking about their issues with this company you need to take three steps back and look at the big picture...Not just your little perfect world. Because, trust me it will end some day. Good luck!
