I was worked as a cashier for Home Depot for almost a year in which older women who somehow accused of things and fired. I am older and when the season slowed, instead of being laid off, I was accused of having checks missing and errors. I had to dispute their bogus claim for unemployment and I won. HD continues to do this. Walk in a Home Depot there are older men, but you don't see any older women. It is well known that Home Depot practices discrimination. |

Aside from the cashier issue, the reason you see more older men than women is because of the products they carry and the way they merchandise. Like it or not, if a person goes into a do-it-yourself store and needs help finding home repair products or advice on what to buy to handle some problem involving the maintenance of a house, he/she is not likely to trust the advice of an old woman. It isn't discrimination, it is a matter of most home repair work has always been done by the man of the house. Consider this, if you went into a store to buy a bra or things for a newborn grandbaby or to purchase a wedding gown for your granddaughter wouldn't you be a bit skeptical if a male employee in a tee shirt and suspenders walked up to help you? It doesn't mean a man can't know anything about a bra nor that a woman can't be an expert on home repairs. It is just a matter of expectations. In a place like Home Depot. Those boxes you see above your head have to be lifted up there and back down constantly. It isn't the job for an old woman. Like it or not, men (even older ones) have more upper body strength and that is a vital part of the job in a place like that. |

Looks like someone is taking us seriously. Look what I found from Deskin Law Firm - they "are investigating whether there are other current or former employees of The Home Depot who believe they were treated unfairly based on their age." Interesting!

I am age 58. Been with THD for over 4 years. I am full time. However you can forget getting any sort of a promotion....even to DH. THD will not promote people like me who are older. I have an excellent work record....employed by the same company before coming to THD for over 32 years.....but that does not count for anything at THD. |
