Homer you are correct with your information. We were told just last night about the changes with the freight team and imas. Basically they fired 11 people but sugar coated it with part-time job offerings.

I've got the inside scoop. The stores that make less than 35 mil, will convert night freight to packdown and packout shifts. The reason that the shifts are split is because no customer wants to struggle to shop with freight on the floor. The IMAs still exist in MOST stores. In the lower volume stores, there will be ISAs instead which only have half of the previous workload because the higher paid DHs will be responsible for the other half. Freight will be received from 10A to 8P or 9P depending on noise ordinances with no exceptions. This is actually better. The change takes effect with freight at the end of Feb and with ordering, March 10. So homer, veracious is right. You should get your story straight before you go around spreading untrue rumors. Maybe if you are unhappy with your job, you should just hang it up and go to Lowes.

I was posting what I heard I realized it may not be 100% accurate and asked for assistance for the accurate information.I know it is corporate America, and we need to do what is best for the company. There are many hard workers who have loved working for Home Depot who may not be able to work there any more because of the available hours.

Ima's pay will be reduced !! if they become Inventory speicalist. legally ? in our store, freight team becomes part time 2/11/08 IMA's cease to exist company wide 3/11/08 (or so we have been told) I thought I was lucky last Monday when the store manager delivered the news to us as I'm an IMA transferring to an MEA position only to find out today that last week Atlanta again changed how they would pay mileage and travel time and due to the changes I'm supposed to drive an average of 1500 miles per month at my expense and time. I'm no longer eligible for any reimbursement or travel time as I live too far from my new 'home' store. I had agreed to absorb over half the mileage after being assured I was still eligible for all travel time from my current store to drive 2 hours today to report for my new position to find out Homer had once again changed the rules. I work at a store with a terrible EOC score and am even on the team to help correct that situation... sure wish the folks in Atlanta could hand out a little motivation... the .92 raise to become MEA isn't going to cover the 1500 +/- miles never mind the 15 to 20 hours a week travel time too!
Saddest part is there's really no one to explain to that can make a difference

Homersnotfair - If you don't like the compensation for the MEA position then don't take it. Some clarification on the freight team and IMA's. Yes they are going away in store under 35Mil. Nobody is being fired. All associates are eligible for other full time positions in the store, or they can transfer to a nearby location that still carries the overnight positions.

ALL IMA's are being terminated and are elible for unemployment. All freight team members are going from 40 hours to 20 hours. yes because of the economy our store is now under 35 mil. but so is 9 of our sister stores. in our store alone 20 employees affected 4 f/t openings available and no new hiring for spring according to our SM.

Help jargon lingo. What is an IMA ? a DH ? an ISA ? an IMS ? EOC score ? MEA ? I've just been offered a job part time on one of the new freight teams. 8 PM to midnight. Actually works really well with my schedule. As part time, what benefits would I have ? This wasn't specified at offering time...

Thank You Homer for starting this thread initially, I had been told earlier this month that my son's father was having his position terminated as an IMA and was being forced to find a transfer and closest transfer he could find was 5 hours away.

Because of his past with his son and numerous periods of disapearing from his son's life for no reason I really didn't know whether or not to believe him about his reason for leaving his son this time. At least now I know this really is happening not just to him but to you poor hard working souls all over the map, and will now be able to have my heart behind it when I reassure his son that he didn't want to leave him.

I can't beleive the company is putting so many in such a difficult situation! My heart goes out to all of you.

MD IMA in Salisbury, Maryland

I am an IMA. I've been with HD over 9 years. I've been an IMA since the first day the position existed at my store. This is what we've been told about pay. We are a D band, the ISA is a B band. If we get it, we take a pay cut, and this is how this cut was explained to us by the SM and HRM. if you make 75% in you pay band, and take another position in a lower pay band, you go to 75% of that band, if your current wage falls inside that band without going over. The SM and HRM can call on you behalf to the district HRM and ask that the cut not be so drastic. If you make more than the cap on the other pay band, you go to the cap.......but I don't believe the last part. I have requested a position in a C band. The cut for me would be a serious decrease. I was told they called and I will only lose $.50. Now here comes the hard part. I'm not the first IMA to be cut. We had 6 at one time. We had our 6th manager come here..(we've been open 9 yrs...6 managers). He didn't see the need for 6 so he said the company was cutting back and we would be 5. 1 was cut.......they never lost a dime and went into lower pay band. The next was our IMA DH. The only one in the country as far as I know. A former manager made up the position. They were stripped of the DH position, lost that increase, because they were no longer a DH and went to work as an associate in a lower band. The last one was cut months and months ago, stating we were slotted for only 3. The conference call we had the next day with the DM stated The IMA's were a vital group that was to be left alone to do our jobs. Not as fill in's lunch coverages, etc. He was giving the SM more hours for the team. If we were asked to something other than our job, to call him on his cell. We stayed at 3.
Read the job description carefully for the ISA. the bottom of the first page doesn't say ordering, but sure nails the description!!!

IMA with questions in somewhere, Maryland

Has anyone else had IMA's downsized. Did they lose money too!! We lost 1 here a while ago and they told me they didn't have to give up anything. If others have been removed and didn't lose any money, can they do this to us? I know lots of stores in our region were cut IMA's over the last year or so. How can they cut some in pay, and not all. Isn't there a law that everyone has to be treated the same. What if I'm black and they were white. What if I'm a woman and they are a man. Is this right? Everyone listen and find out who was cut, and did they lose pay. I was told I would. I KNOW the 1 that was removed here is in a lower pay band and they didn't take there money. We are friends outside the store. They said if my money was cut that they would stand up and say that they were not. I don't see how it is legal to do it to some and not others. Can anyone verify this at their stores???????

The job description for inventory specialist does describe ordering, it just doesn't use the word ordering. And who orders when the DH's is off?? They do get days off. When I asked my SM, they changed the subject. In fact, what I think is in a few months the new inventory specialist will be ordering. This is just a way to cut payroll in the stores. Get rid of the people over $15 an hour and bring in the $8 people. We'll be watching for their full cycle time, every hole every day. Then the stock go further down the drain. And they expect us to train these new people!!!!!!! I like what I do. I don't want to do anything else. I have had fantastic reviews. I know I am good at what I do. It might be time for me to be an asset to a company that really cares..not one that pretends so they can use me!

There is a thick booklet about the new process (I know this) it DOES NOT have every turn of events. ie:the new freight team mgrs (and yes there are new mgr positions)but there are not any job description for the position yet. the booklet is like a unfinnished SOP add on. im trying to get a copy "friends in the right places" to place on the net there is a lot of "unclearness" about this big mess but most of you are all right your stores are trying to come up with "fillers" where the book doesn't make things clear because asm's and store mgrs know the basic's of proper staffing and ordering "time off/ vacation's" but i can tell you this after you read this thing you will be just as dumb founded as they are.Im doing my best to keep you all informed about this but THIS WAS A CORPRATE IMPULSE MOVE NOT THOUGHT OUT AT ALL...i also found out that some states will compensate you if you are forced to go part time "they will make up the differents" ot of your unemployment look it up !! until next time________THE JAY________

I was told today by my HR that there was a conference call on Wednesday and "they" decided that the IMA's would be bored with the new Inventory Specialist Position. Therefore "we" could transfer to a 'sales specialist' position. That would be the only FT position available. I inquired about the new Merchandise Execution Associate position and was told there were no openings at this time. Possibly in April. How interesting since our IMA's we will be terminated as of March 10th if we don't find a FT or PT position.I'm still considering PT day crew...4am-8am..."IF" there's an opening. I'm thinking there won't be.

Would you or anyone else in this area know the actual hours an Inventory Specialist at HD works?Full flex or set hours? Is it full time or part time? I still cannot get an answer to these questions from management.

We are not feeling the love here in Michigan. Our SM and HR have been avoiding us since they told us that we no longer have a job or a full time one anyway. They are never there when we are 9:30 pm - 6:00 am. Seems they are never schelduled late or early. They do not know anything and certainly don't care about all the people that are affected by this. No full time jobs available and they made one up for an IMA in the lumber deptartment. An associate that will be responsible for ordering. The whole thing sticks. Home Depot is definatly not the land of opportunity. They told us all on freight team that we were not qualified for the new ims positions. I highly doubt that they still need people who know what they are doing to put frieght away. Most of our team are taking postions at other stores to many politics at our store. At least we can collect under employement for a few months.

This is something I just heard. On days that the DS does not work, either another DS or associate should review the orders. This gives the opportunity to train and use associates in the dept as backups .The PO's will "fly" at 9PM rather than 4PM.

It's interesting that HD would want to train the associates in each dept how to order. Of course they wouldn't let the Inventory Specialist order, then HD would have to pay us more, which would bring us back to IMA pay band(?). I was told yesterday by my SM and HR that the Inventory Specialist's hours( in our store)are PT with set hours for eachInventory Specialist(3 or 4)..i.e. 6-12.They're not certain if there would be an overlap. This would allow an opportunity to inform the next "specialist" what still needs to be done.
Also...we would each have to work 1 weekend day.
I believe this information was released yesterday. Hopefully all of us who are in limbo will get more of an idea of what's going on...of course that could change tomorrow.

Freight team members come to days starting next week but no one yet is sure who's showing up when.... and IMA's are still lost in la-la land... no one can answer as to what we can expect all the way past regional HR! Doesn't this sound like cruel and unusual treatment?! I know we are hating it!

Has anyone affected by the change in freight team and IMA position in your store had an interview? There are interviews taking place this week in my store but all external. Not one IMA or Freight Team member has been scheduled for an interview or even knows what positions are available. It's so sad and pathetic.

Our store is losing alot of good people. everyone trying to find other jobs. two of IMA going to the position just recently only becuase they are "REALLY CUSTOMER SERVICE ORERANTIED" BS! everone know that at our store. they are really good with the HR Manager..

CRAP like that makes home depot look bad.. when I quit, i am going to go public about eveything.. cutting hours, work conditons, low wages, etc !!!

Wished we were unionized !

Interviews started again this week but they are far and few between, but they are so far all internal (crossing my fingers for everyone) But I did just find out that almost every Department Head now has a new assignment, so when the IMA's are done, there won't be any seasoned DH's in place! OMG Maybe Walmart's not so bad...lol

I'm wondering how the new hours for the freight team are working out. I can't imagine all these changes are going to help with customer service. That is the goal of the company isn't it? Of course in my store the freight team and IMA's were told there were no FT positions yet Thursday I met someone who was hired last week for Dept 23.
Also, many of our PT people are being scheduled in other depts. Someone who has been in 26 has been scheduled in 25 and 27 .Another PT associate in 25 scheduled in 21/22.Many PT are being called and told not to come in. They work in those depts. I mentioned above. These are depts that had FT associates who left HD. These positions have not been replaced. Now how can this be giving good customer service?

Get out there, call other stores, do what you can to find a job, you are going to have to take it upon yourselves, don't count on your HR's.
