I love working for The Home Depot. I was hired six months ago, after leaving a medium-sized commercial bank in Omaha. They pay very well if you have experience and personality; for example, my position as a "specialist" starts at 10.00/hr with a cap around 16 I think. Plus, when the store makes sales plan or goes so long without a safety violation, they give out very healthy bonuses. In fact, on Wednesday this week, 15 employees in the store will be receiving a $500 bonus...
I think it depends upon the store you work for, or the department you are in. If your store isn't making sales or you've got a lot of safety issues, it would be Hell to work there. But, if you are honest and work hard, the Depot is a spectacular place to work. Truthfully, leaving the bank and going to The Home Depot was the best career decision I've ever made.

I think, coming From Omaha, you might be using a different compensation rating scale; that is not much money at all. Home Depot is a low-paying, highly demanding company with a high turnover rate!

The only thing I dislike is that in order to get past the Associate level you must work Full Time, the highest level position a part time employee can obtain is Head Cashier. Manager, Assistant Manager, or higher for departments require you to work Full Time. In order to work Full time you must also have a flexible schedule (mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends with rotating schedules.

They pretty much own you if you are full time. If you want a day off request have to be made three weeks in advance and it will not be granted if x amount of employees want that same day off. Say July 4th or something try requesitng 6 months to a year in advance. Just stay away from Depot upper ecexs bring in 200,000 a year and they get pissed off at you for an hour of overtime because you are helping a customer. They excpect you to pass him off to someone else before your shift ends
