Do you work at Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

dont bother, organization let someone i know work for them for two years get excellent performance ratings, promise promotions and then fire them on the basis of credit reports...their management is weak at best...their HR department does not even do their jobs...the rule they have in place is that you would subject your integrity and respect for our country and be likely to take money from potential terroists,

what about this country...you want to work to pay your bills because owe money....and you cant keep your jobs cause you do... so hope your credit is great!

Jontae, I'm supposing that you already performed the on-line application process. Unlike a local company where you are afforded the opportunity to speak to a HR person directly on the phone and see them in person while you fill out the application, the TSA (and ANY federal job) has a different process. The TSA (and ANY federal agency) require open positions to be advertised at their web-sites and via standardized approved lister (ie USAjobs.com). The postition postings list the basic skills and education requirements with the duty description and how to apply for the position. The application process will not allow you the opportunity to speak to ANYONE until they call you. The call will come ONLY after the posting period has closed, screeners have had two to four weeks to sort out incomplete applications and unqulified applicants (and they are screening for the entire agency, not for jst that one position you applied for) then dietermine who the 10-20 most quailified applicants are before sending these on to the hiring official. The hiring official will usually be the supervisor for that position and they have certain mandates they must follow in regards to minimum requirements and being an EOE. The only people called are about two to five people out of the top 10-20 applicants forwarded to the hiring official and maybe only two will get a face-to-face interview; everyonoe else will be left to guess that they didn't make the first cut.

Hope this helped clear up some quesions.

Robert,
I am currently going through the process. I'll caveat off of WayneO's previous comments.
Go to USAJOBS website. Depending on what you are looking for, you can do a search for jobs, look at the description for a particular job, and the qualifications/ requirements.

Now, assuming you are looking for a Security Screener job with TSA, like I think you are, you can go right to their website and look under "Careers" for that type job. It allows you to see what openings they currently have by state, both full time and part time. Then, as WayneO said, you'll need to fill out the on-line application for the specific state/ airport you want. Submit it, and then wait for a call from their HR office to go and take a computerized test. Then, wait again for them to reach you with further information pertaining to the process. Have a good email address, because they do a lot of automatically-generated correspondence via email (such as: your test results, notifications of airport vacancies, etc., etc.). Hope this helps.

Larry

Sorry, but I worked for TSA for over five years. I was one of the mobile screening force then a security officer then supervisor. If you want in, just tell them you worked for airport management or buddy up to one of the TSA big bosses and one way or another they will get you in, at least to TSA.

Whatever you do, do not become one of the uniformed officers at an airport. See my website at www.rustyhinges.org.

Find yourself employment with someone else, please.

Thank You. I have a scheduled computer test this week, having to drive 4 hours to take a two and half hour test. Then not knowing next steps. I got the feeling they were difficult to work for. thanks for the insight on credit, I thought that odd they asked about that on the application.
