How to get a job at IKEA.

Do you work at IKEA? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

While driving on South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando, FL, yesterday, I saw a store with IKEA on the front. I haven't been able to locate the address on-line. Does anyone know if this location is a distribution center for IKEA products? I would like to submit a resume to work at the location. I understand there is a new, large IKEA opening shortly on Conroy Road in Orlando. That location would be too far for me to commute. The OBT location would be perfect. If you know the address and contact information for the OBT location, I'd appreciate the advise.

My experience with IKEA was less than stellar. Recently applied for a creative job at the new store to open in Orlando. After asking for my portfolio, I felt like I was strung along until someone else was hired. Never did get that interview even though it was promised. Also, the website hiring interface was clunky and hard to use. My two cents.

IKEA hires people to a large degree based on "values" fit. A lot of the interviewing process is to determine a person's values and how they fit in the IKEA culture. IKEA is different from a lot of big-box stores in that it has a well-defined culture, team atmosphere, etc. They really do look for "down to earth" employees. Be yourself when interviewing, be outgoing and pleasant, etc. It's a retail business, so personality goes a long way. It also helps to do a bit of research on the company and what it's values are (available on the Web site).

Does anyone know of a phone # to contact if you've applied for a store? There is one opening up here in Charlotte, NC and I can't find a way to contact the human resource department since technically the store will not be open until Spring 2009.
