Underwriter

I have an interview tomorrow with Indy Mac and I was told to be prepared for a pre-testing and to figure about 2 hours for the whole interview/ pre-testing process.

My interview is for an underwriting position.

Are there any people out there that have worked for Indy Mac or that are currently working for Indy Mac ? I must admit I am a tad bit nervous.

How difficult is the test ?
How is the overall atmosphere at Indy Mac ?
How is their pay ?

Anything that anyone can tell me will be ever so highly appreciated.

Thank you all

I'm going for an interview with Indymac tomorrow also. The recruiter I spoke with said the test would be for basic math, reading comprehension, personality, etc. Doesn't sound too terribly difficult. Don't know much about their pay or work atmosphere. See you there!

thank you my fellow underwriter. i wish i could see you there, we could give each other moral support *smiles* but you are in california and i am in arizona. i have a couple of years of underwriting under my belt so, it shouldn't be so bad. i just get really tense when it comes to test, it's like i freeze up...HUH ? MY NAME ? WHAT'S A NAME ? sort of thing. *laughing*.

Pay freeze in effect currently. They just right sized 30% of the underwriting staff because they didn't meet their metrics. Benefits are good, but the atmosphere is like working at GE under <Edited by Host: Name Removed>

What do you mean by "right sized"? Is that code for pay-cut?

IndyMac uw's are paid to decision loans which means - uw's are rewarded for NOT making loans work. The best underwriters in one of the op's centers are on warning. Go figure!

IndyMac just cut pay on their sales force by 30%. Getting ready to see a mass exodus leave. I wouldn't take an u/w position. Won't be anything to u/w.

I work there, interviewing all this week. They really are shoving it to their own people.

Underwriters don't make their own decisions here. They are in the buisness to deny deals but they get bonus incentives for quality and quanity of loans funded. This place really put a bad taste for the whole mortgage industry.

Don't Work for Indy Mac in NJ! The VP is so incompetent! She has dated a few of the U/W in the office and one was transferred. They promote based on Friendships not qualifications and they are not fair with most of their staff.. Over worked and under paid. There are minimal breaks unless you smoke they you get UNLIMITED breaks because you are smoking with your manager and that makes it ok. The best is that the VP of HR dates a QC guy..isn't that fancy...Not a place to work for sure!!!

Ha Ha! Good one <Edited by Host: Name Removed>! Ahh… I mean “Margaret”. I hope you feel better now that you have gotten that off your chest. You really should think before you post comments like this. Please explain to all of us reading this forum exactly what you are basing you accusations on or are you simply regurgitating rumors because you are upset over something or someone?

IndyMac is horrible. Pay is the WORST in the industry. Delusions abound about how great they are. In for a reality test.

Stay away from Indymac. Far, far away. I'm taking a voluntary severance in three weeks to get away from them, and i've only worked for IMB for a few months. In fact, about two thirds of the ops center is set to bolt. I haven't spoken with a single person yet who likes their job there. I'd be surprised if they can manage to keep the center open after everyone leaves. Management works you like a rented mule, the sales staff act like demon-possessed rabid pirates, and you're held to impossible standards. Absolutely no redeeming qualities in this company.

I have a few friends who are in the upper food chain at IndyMac. I was on the phone with an Underwriter in MA on Friday and she was literally in tears. I do not wish the company ill will just telling like I hear it. They have a hiring freeze, salary freeze and just asked for 1000 people to take a layoff. If this is your only option heck take the job if not it looks like staying clear may be a good move. Why work for any company that has staffing problems?

IndyMac was my mortgage lender for 3 months after I purchased my home. I refinanced just to get away from thier absolutely horrible customer service.

If you want to work for IndyMac, these behavior traits will serve you well: outright lying, rudness, refusal to return phone calls, refusal to credit an account even with a bank provided canceled check in hand.... you get the picture. Don't do business with this bank unless you enjoy being on the receiving end of this behavior.

Hello. I am trying to locate a former Indymac Bank underwriter who would be willing to provide expert testimony regarding the approval of loans in the LA Area. Please send an e-mail to pzvonicek@gglts.com if you have this experience. Thanks.
