Seems like all the managers are out on vacation, tried reading hr policies that didn't really specify notice timeframe of leaving company for the average joes. Got a job offer however waiting on background check so I can get everything in writing and signed. Don't want to give notice until I get cleared. If a give a week or 3 day notice is that so terrible?

There is no law that requires someone to give a 2 week notice; I have been given 2 minute notices. What you have is a strong tradition but sometimes, leaving earlier cannot be helped.

You are correct in not giving any notice until your new job is secured. After that, whatever notice you give will be sufficient.

A two week notice, if given should be in writing with a copy to yourself and dated.
