As far as what I have been told from someone going over there in the next few weeks; He was told it is best to take out a 713 cell phone number with one of the cell providers and leave it behind with the person you will be contacting the most. So when you are able to call from their (KBR's) alloted phone abroad, it will be like a local call to the person or persons you leave the 713 cell phones behind with. As far as personal cell phones going over there, I don't know about that and I wouldn't think it is something they would want you to have turned on being that cell phones are tracable or have GPS tracking systems. Anyone that knows and can elaborate on this subject feel free to add or correct me; I'm just going by hear say. |

I am a 33yo student. I have completed my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and I will have completed my Master's Degree in the same field in December '08. I am interested in a postition with KBR. What managerial positions are available for me? What are the benefits and "uplifts"? What is the best area to work? How is off time designated? When is the best time to apply if I want to become employeed with KBR after my phsycial graduation (Feb., '09)? I have a lot of questions but these seem to be the most pertinent ones for now. I would appreciate any and all advice to help. |

They have phone banks set up in the camp area with a Houston phone number that you can use to call family. I purchased pre-paid phone cards and he uses they to call home. Your cell service over here doesn't work to call the states anyway. You would have to buy an Iraq cell phone and buy pre-paid cards for them and my husband's never worked very well. |

At some sites you cannot have cell phones. But KBR took away the privledge of having an Iraqna Cell phone. Because they don't want us to get ahold of these new companies that are coming to take over 66 2/3% of what KBR is doing. They gave us some B.S. excuse . But in some areas Iraqis can have cells and FN's have cells and every other company does and The military does also. SO KBR just has it out for all of us. But I won't say much on this the HR people still hjave their cells and crap they say it's for office people only. ANyway I'll talk more about it later, M |

Yeah they made everyone either take out the battery and store it until leaving the country. Or the confiscated them or had you hand them into security. And if security finds one on you and it's not a kbr company phone they will either give you days off, or Termination. Not to many people listened though. But like if we cannot have cells on certain bases. We make sure not to have them per the military, KBR no worries. They gave us a stupid excuse about it. Just so these new companies cannot get ahold of people who will want to change rather than have a 1 second notice when they take over that we are no longer needed for our jobs. But no one knows when. KBR is only gonna tell us what they want us to know. But this is still the easiest way to get your foot in the door. And make some cash and stuff. BUt who knows it could be awhile in certain areas we are all uncertain of our time here. But if these other companies fail, KBR will be back in the picture for $15,000,000.00 a year. And if you were about ready to lose 66 2/3's of $15,000,000.00 wouldn't you do some underhanded tricks to keep the cashflow coming in. NO cash many problems. $10,000,000.00 is alot of money to lose in a year, so over 5 years $50,000,000.00 dollars gone out to the other companies. So they start with who is gonna run for more money and it also effects those companies also. Trying to get qualified individuals with experience in the Middle East especially Iraq, it is a hard thing to do. When you cannot get ahold of anyone. Anyway enough babbling. BUt just don't have one until you get where you are going then if you get one don't get caught with it. So good luck, m |

They have call centers wether it be KBR with a houston line you can use your calling card to call home or call home and have your family call yo back immediately. If you have free long distance or live in the Houston area it is free. 281 or 713 for Houston, TX. But no privacy so be prepared. I have been many places here in Iraq I could not have one per military. SO I just kept it packed away with the battery out and stored. I have had one here for along time. And some people have had them since they first came out. Just the Big wigs kept them for HR and office like managers foreman and stuff. Anyway please dont let the no cell phones discourage you, there are many ways around stuff. Even for this amount of money $8-10 k a month depends on your job. And are you being hired under LOGCAP IV or LOGCAP III? If you are how is the pay changed? Good Luck, MArk |

I started a forum for Expats to post on, do not want to post the link in an open forum but if you want to join, all are welcome. Has a shoutbox and members can up photos and create their own blog. Started this yesterday and for contractors and troops to send info to friends/family and has a private messaging system to send private messages to hubbies, wives, ect.. Does require membership but it only takes a min or so to register. Anyone wanting to join or just look at it, send me an email to the link above. |

This forum is great and provides tons of information for those interested in KBR but I have one question that keeps playing over and over in my mind......HOW IN THE HECK do you get a recruiter to notice your resume and contact you for an interview? I've tried contacting a few inside KBR folks personally via e-mail with no luck. I've applied to any/all jobs for which I'm qualified and yet no word. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my foot in the door? |

I just talked to my recruiter and I was given a report date. They do not have power, but phones work. I will be in southern Iraq. Do you know if they have containers or tents there. Any info will be great. Pay is good if you work the 12 hours a day 7 days a week, but I was told they only promise 40 hours a week, but that is still more pay than what I make now.

Do you mind me asking what "good" pay is??

Most camps have metal containers, but may be in tent for a short time till one comes up empty. Everyone works 12 hour days 7 days a week that I know. The only time you get 40 hour pay is on R&R. What camp and what job are you doing in Iraq? I have some information about Camp Delta and Camp Echo. |

Guaranteed pay is over 5,000 a month at 40 hrs a week. But anything over that you are paid straight time and that is about 18.00 per hour, so that adds up to over 8,000 a month. Like I said, good pay. Thanks, I will need the good luck. My landlady says I will have to move if I go to work some where else. That means my family will have to move and I have to work on that before I can report to Houston. |

I know you can buy computers in Badgdad, my husband bought his in sates and carried there as they were not availble on his base. I know nothing about your Camp. My husband's wireless card would not work in Iraq and the internet avaiable in Iraq is costly, last I heard many were paying $140.00 a month. THat is crazy. So my husband has no internet. |

Mind if I ask, how long did it take for you to get a call from a recruiter from the time you submitted your resume? On another note...I'm going to a career fair for veterans given by RecruitMilitary.com in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if KBR, Honeywell, Flour, and/or DynCorp participate in any of these career fairs? Thanks -- Reggie |

OK I talked to someone w/Stanley Consultants. The job is in Iraq ( was hoping for some place safer like Dubai!)So how safe is Iraq? Any one there now? I haven't been given any figures yet but I heard that I should expect around $280-$300k....does that sound right???
|
|
Ms Sparky in Portland, Oregon 45 months ago |
Yes...that is the wage that Stanley Consultants are offering. They are looking for Master Electricians to be part of an inspection team. Although I'm not interested in going even for 300K, I'm trying to get more info on this for those who are. So if you know anything email me at mssparky@mssparky.com Ms Sparky

My husband just talked to his recruiter at KBR and he said they have waived the wabi test for electricians, hvac and plumbers. One less thing to do. Does anyone have any info on what going on in Houston? I heard it was moving along and they are starting to bring people in again. Whats the deal with Stanley Consultants, ive never heard of so much money, i dont think it can be right. Are they hiring journeymen as well? Went to the website but it said nothing about Iraq. |

Well my husband is in Houston now for processing and he did class all last week and now it is put on hold until electric comes back on...people are getting mad about sitting but KBR called a meeting for today at 5pm, well see what they say. As far as the WABI test, my husband is a Journeyman Electrician and he had to take it, that was about a month ago. |
|
switch in Austin, Texas 45 months ago |
I guess not doing the wabi test is a new thing then. Has your husband been stuck at the hotel all this time? he was meant to fly over today right? Is the processing center not open yet? what happened to the people flying in last sunday. I guess it must be really backlogged.. |

Did u like it there? I guess you have to process again right ? Maybe you could tell me about the health benefits. My husband is going to Houston next month and i want to know what the benefits are like for me and the kids... |
|
T in Foley, Alabama 45 months ago |
It was hot but OK, just watch out for yourself and do as instructed. I have to go through the whole process again, the health benefits , I never had to use them and neither did my wife. I know you pay up front and then submit for reimburstment or talk to your physicians office and see what they say about Atena. |
|
switch in Austin, Texas 45 months ago |
What camp were you on and will you go to the same camp again/ I guess its luck of the draw. I dont like the sound of the health benefits, i wonder what they do for prescriptions, Do they have a copay or pay up front also? I heard that you cant wear blue jeans over there, is that right? Any advise for type of clothing? |
