Hi Debbie,

Speaking of taxes. Even though we are not going by calendar year, since my hubby started working in November what is the form that we have to file for working over seas? Is it just an extension or is there a special form?

Thank you

Paula

Vannessa Henley in Houston, Texas said: Some recruiters email candidates with introductory infor, just to guage level of interest. Others call, and leave a message with return contact info.
I understand that many people get frustrated waiting. When I began working with KBR in 2004, I thought - wow - it's going to be hard to find people who will want to go to Iraq. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be just the opposite! At this point, we get over 15,000 new applicants online every month.
The best advice I can give is to be sure that your online app/resume presents you as a strong candidate. A recruiter will be looking at your last 5-10 years experience, and will seek specific details about your skills, experience, and work history. Do not "dilute" your resume to make it look like you can do anything. KBR is looking for skilled professionals; it is best to focus on 1-2 key areas of expertise.
And don't give up! We search our entire database for candidates as jobs become available, not just the most recent candidates.
Hope this helps! Best of luck to each of you in your job search.

Thanks Ms. Henley, I appreciate your advice. If I make changes to the resume and re-upload it, will that take effect for the jobs I have already applied to? Meaning, will they get the new version, or the old version that I added in the application process?

I'm pretty patient and am confident as well (so long as I have properly written my resume, that is), just trying to make sure the correct version gets to whichever recruiter pulls it when it does happen.

No rush on my side, although obviously, the earlier the better, lol :)

My hubby started November too. Im kinda confused by it. I spoke to a CPA and he said since it was only one paycheck he would do as normal and make ammendment after the 330 days. I dont understand and im still calling other CPA's. They are expensive.

Vannessa Henley in Houston, Texas said: To shed a little light - they're really looking to rule out conditions that require ongoing treatment. It'll be hot, dirty, a tough work schedule - they want to be sure that folks are in sound physical condition. The medical disqualifiers are normally addressed both in our candidate briefings, and in the online assessment within the online application process. Aside from that, i can tell you that the #1 thing candidates fail is blood pressure. Even if this is the case, we see this as temporary. You finish the remainder of your processing steps, then go home to see a doc to get the condition under control. Once cleared you would come back thru to be deployed, which can happen in as little as 2 weeks. The blood pressure cutoff is 150/84. Another thing people unfortunately fail is the drug screen - it is tougher than the normal pre-employment test. Hope this helps!

my husband has never done drugs and should have no problem with the test, but he has had to have dental work to get the dental release, and the dentist gave him some strong stuff. the name is not listed on the receipt, but the hygenist wrote it in, would this work as proof that the dentist gave it to him? Thanks.

JDCS does your recruiter specialize in just recruiting in the trades or is he recruiting for all positions. I applied about a month ago and haven't heard anything yet. I have been monitoring this forum for a long time and it seems that if you are going to be seen it should be within the first several weeks. My email is jandrewconstruct@cox.net if you don't mind sending me your recruiters email, or send me yours and i will forward you my resume if you don't mind putting it in front of him.

You can either file your tax return with his KBR money now and then file amend return after he has met the 365 days. Or you can file for an extension but not sure of months allowed for extension. We didn't file for extension as mine started in June and I filed without his KBR money then filed amended in June and only had to pay small amount for late filing. But that would not work for everyone. I still recommend that you all find a tax office that knows the ins and outs of overseas income exclusions.

That's what I would do if we only had only 1-2 months payroll. File now with full amount then file amended after 365 days.

Hi guys, Rob is hopefully on his way right now to Ghazni. He has been held up for several days and is very ready to get to cooking. Ladies, I hope your hubbies dont't come back with more of themselves than when they left, Rob is an excellent cook. And since my personal chef is gone, I plan to keep off the 60+ pounds that I have lost these last 6 months. I am happy for Rick, that is another step closer to being "free" to work.
Tell Nick to look Rob up at Ghazni, he will be the tall bald guy with a heart of gold :) Susan

It doesn't help me much. I did get an e-mail this morning so at least I know he's fine. He said he should be back to Ghazni in a couple of days. He has mentioned the food several times so I think I might look into some cooking class while he is gone. I am not a good cook. Thanks for the taxes info everyone. I think I will have to talk to someone. I don't want to mess this up. I read in the newspaper to day that 65,000 people lost their jobs today. I think we are blessed to have our men working. Anyone going there too or know anything about it? I haven't seen anything regarding this base and can't get much info about it.

If I was to leave Huston in the middle of February around the 14 or so when could I expect to see a full check going into my account would it be April 3 or later The bank has started foreclosure on my house and I am trying to make a deal to see if they let me keep it if I can promise a payment on a certain date

Greeting everyone,
My name is Sonya, my husband Sam is a carpenter. He posted a resume online with KBR last April when the work here in WI started to slow down. We waited 8 months to be contacted but we got email on Christmas Eve so I chose to look at it as a blessing. As I said there is no work here. Sam is in Houston now being processed. So far so good. He did say about 80 people had some form of blood pressure issue. Feel blessed to have found this forum. Feel so much better to have some form of community:)

If you start processing 16 February, then you should finish processing and be in country by the end of the month or beginning of March. So yes you should receive a full paycheck on April 3rd.

Sonya,
Congradulations. It's good to see people still understand such things as blessings. Truly you and your family have been blessed. Arizona is another area where the construction has been hit very hard. I talk to my trades everyday; guys that have been around for decades and they tell me they don't know how much longer they can survive out there. I have applied for 5 different jobs with KBR all in the superintending, foreman, proj mang. area and have heard nothing.
God bless and good luck!!!

So I totally broke down yestersday when I was saying a simple 'THank you ' to him..

Still havent heard from Jess this morning.. Havent heard from him since Monday night...Im sure he's just working a lot...I will pray that I have a better day at school today.. its not my student's fault so I shouldn't get that way with them

Hello Everyone, I filled out my paper work and sent it in. I have a question about the background check. It asked for any felonies or misdermeanor convictions which I dont have any.. I have a couple of speeding tickets and went to court but wasnt convicted for another incident. I told my recruiter all about this but dont want it to look like Im hiding anything. SHould I call and tell my recruiter or call the background company. Thanks and Hope everyone is well

Just got a call from Jess.. I hadn't talked to him since Monday night...

He said that the network is down and that he cant use any computers or phones.. he asked someone for a cell phone and he made the quick call.. only about 30 seconds..

He said he's okay and that he knew I would be worried.. Thank God for who ever had the phone that he was able to use..

He did say it would be several days before he could contact me again.. at least I know that now and I wont stress out as much...

Boston- list everything... you are right... you dont want them to think that you are hiding anything.. that may a count against you even if its a simple ticket
