My recruiter told me I would be going to Anaconda but as soon as I get in country I'll be trying to stay at Liberty/Victory. I have friends there and in my opinion it's one of the best places you can be in Iraq. I've heard good things about Anaconda as well though. |

Where do they go put in for the transfer. I think if my husband dosn't transfer out, he will be leaving. The way I see it, it's KBR loss because he is a damn good electrician. Good thing his boss here will take him back if he decides to come home:) |

Hes not getting used to it then melly? Can you share what the problems are so we can all know what the difficulties are like working over there? |

mellypryor in Fort Worth, Texas 44 months ago |
No, dosn't seem to be getting better and my husband is a strong man so it must be pretty bad! You know they can't tell us much at all...but I have learned that that camp is underattack almost every single day and the guys are going with no sleep and then they call mandatory 14 hr days so now the guys don't eat much. Us as Americans don't experiamce life how those people live over there. Also my husband hates the working conditions, things are not safe and people don't listen...he is very uneasy at this moment. I hate to see him come home because we went into alot of debit to get him there, but he will do what he has to do! Good thing he will still have his job here if he does come back, that will help alot:) Melly |

Your spouses will have great difficulty adjusting to the heat, living conditions, long work hours working and being away from their family. My husband was miserable for about a month. Even after 15 months my husband calls being in Iraq a prison. They have to watch everything they do so that they don't end up on a plane home. Food isn't great, heat is terrible to adjust to, even if your from Texas. The paperwork is unbeleivable. My husband got in trouble last week because he forgot to sign a checklist. And don't forget to do your safety list before doing anything or your me going home. The mortar attacks take some getting use to, some camps worse then others. And also hope they don't get sick beacause all they have is a medic and your treated everytime for dehydration. My husband began feeling sick with flu like symptoms and went to see the medic and was told drink more water. This went on for three days and at this point my husband told him this was not the flu he was getting worse and he needed to see a real doctor. They sent him to the military doctor after his liver profile was elevated. The looked at the history and lab and immediately medavaced him to Baghdad into ICU for 5 days. He was daignosised with Q-fever, bacterial infection from inhaling livestock excrament. He is doing better but now has to be monitored for the rest of his life to make sure he doesn't end up with hepititas, menigitis, liver failure or infection of his heart lining. This was never an infection KBR told employees about. Employees also need to make sure they never drink or use the water in the taps for anything other then showering. Brush teeth with bottled water only. Also cover up any cuts or sores as they may get infected as the water is not drinkable. Also as a family member in the States you will be sending weekly packages of deodrant, shampoo, bath soap, basic first aid products, clothing, boots, reading material and food and snack stuff, etc. |

Melly I can relate to your issues. My husband is in Iraq but the camp he was originally sent to was also under daily mortar attacks. He had alot of bunker time the first month but it got better after that. They only had occasional attacks. But these workers experience things that my husband relates to prison. The company controls your every move, and yes no one listens about the jobs being done. My husband has seen pipes duct taped or silconed together. These employees from other countries don't know what they are doing but the wages are cheap, so they stay and Americans are sent home. And the crap certainly rolls down hill very fast. My husband said it got more tolerable after the first month and he had time to learn the routine and rules. He also applied more many jobs to get out of that camp with no luck, only to be temporarily moved to and even worse camp. He also says all the electrians have been told 14 hour days and no R&R until after all inspections are completed. And all this has to be done with little or no materials and "electricians" with no skills or licenses. And you certainly can't tell them what do to because they now it all. Good Luck to your husband and please feel free to contact me at afscme3920@aol.com Debbie |

"Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas"]You wives should not worry so much. My husband calls a couple time a day. The phones in Iraq are set up on a Houston number so work on getting a cell phone number with a Houston prefix then you won't have any long distance charges. Another item to be mindful of is that KBR will mess with your husband's payroll every R&R. So put some money back each month to cover your bills during that time. I live near Waco, Texas and will gladly talk to any of you about this adventure. My husband has been there 15 months so we have learned alot. If you want to talk send me an e-mail and I will give you my number. Debbie Debbie, My Hubby is HVAC, going to Afghanistan, leaves a week from today, my email is bak14901@yahoo.com. I have a bunch of questions that I can't find answers for, so when you get a second can you email me? Thanks, Beth |

Go to kbrjobs.com and post your resume. If you have an electricians license or any kind of license that would help. There are some very knowledgeable people on this site so be patient with a response. You may want to read back on the posts and catch some info..good luck |

With most companies they want to see certifications as proof that you know how to do the job they hired you for. |

Just take with you toiletries needed in Houston and few days in Baghdad. Clothing items for at least 10 days. You may have to wash clothes in Houston before you leave. Laundry time in camp is 3-4 days turn arounf time. Remember that winter will soon be in Iraq so take a few sweat shirts, long sleeve, jacket and insulated underwear. Depending on where you go you may not have access to items in PX. Some are very small and have very little in clothing items. You will need to have family or friends send the other items you need as anything over 45-50 lbs will be left in airport in Houston. Remember I-pod and reading material. Hope this helps. Debbie |

Hey everyone, Need some advise. My husband goes to process october 26th.I would like to visit him the weekend before he leaves.I dont think i can drive there so my option would be to fly. Can you tell me how far the airport is from the hotels they put you up in and how much would a taxi be ? Do they usually give them their own room or would i need to book a room as well? Please help me out!!! |
|
millied in Raleigh, North Carolina 44 months ago |
I know the feeling but they seem to be in some sort of testing and training most of the time. They are putting them in rooms of 2 people per room and as some leave they change rooms. Hope your plan works for you but you will more than likely have to get a room. Also you may not know how soon he will leave. They say from 10 to 21 days but what weekend in between I really don't know how you would know. It seems to go from a day to day thing as far as when they will leave. |

Its not always the Hilton is it? I heard that it could be the marriott,Ramada, Days Inn, Are they all close together?. They leave on the sunday and get the following sunday off before they fly out the next week if all goes well. Thats when i was thinking of going. Thats not bad $25 for a taxi, have you been there? |
|
millied in Raleigh, North Carolina 44 months ago |
no, but due to IKE a lot of things seem to have changed in Huston. As far as them getting a Sunday off that did not happen with my husband. He is flying out tomorrow. |
|

How long did it take him to process? Was he at the Hilton? |
|
millied in Raleigh, North Carolina 44 months ago |
yes for for 6 days he did nothing because of the power outage. Just ate and talked to others there. There was about 500 men. Then it seems all the other things only took only about another week and he is out of there. |
