switch in Austin, Texas said: When is the rainy season. Can you tell me anything about camp victory ? thanks The rainy season varies but you can figure Dec, Jan, Feb. Maybe a little longer. The sand is like a fine talcum powder. When it gets wet It's like a slimy clay. The water just sits on the surface so there is a lot of mud. Victory is in Baghdad. It's KBR's HQ. It's a large camp. Huge PX, decent DFAC's (dining facilities) I thing there's a Burger King, Cinnabon, coffee shops. There's probably more since I was there. The one nice thing about Victory is ... it's just a bus ride to the airport and you are outta there for R&R. No midnight convoys, no blackhawk rides, no extra flights. It's congested though. |

do they have any living quarters besides tents? |

As for tents...the Canadians, etc sleep in metal buildings. The works sleep in tents. My husband said his floor was concrete. You would think they all would have better sleeping quarters. |

No. |

You are correct on that one. All the food tastes the same from what I've been told. No matter what they eat, it all tastes the same. |

No, he is in Afghanistan. All the Electricians base pay is 3750 and then you add the uplifts. |

My fiance was offered a job as a plumber, and I've been reading this forum and I'm having a hard time understanding the uplifts and how that works. Any help will be greatly appreciated! |

switch in Austin, Texas said: Are the living conditions good then? there must be thousands of troops there then, so pretty safe? Do you ever get to go outside camp? I guess it would depend on what you are doing. If you are working for KBR, you most likely will not leave camp unless you are a convoy driver or heading to the airport. The camp is huge and well established. There are some tents but I think most of KBR's people are in trailers. Not 100% on that. And as far as "safe" goes, It's a warzone. No amount of soldiers in your camp will keep mortars and rockets from coming in. |

Fish5...I'll tell you what the proctor at the Prometric test site told me when I got ready to take my WABI....just think politically correct when you're taking the test, and you'll be fine. |
|
millied in Raleigh, North Carolina 44 months ago |
The last I heard was that the test was waved as well as the dental exam. |
|
millied in Raleigh, North Carolina 44 months ago |
Wow you are smart and quick. you have talked to your hubby today? That is great, have not heard from mine so your reply that he has seen him was a comfort. I do suppose that was today. Anyway it sounds like all is well and I am sending my hubby (as soon as I find out where to send it) his resume. So he will be at least making a little more the next 6 months. |

Thanks for any help he can get. The last I heard was that the test was waved as well as the dental exam. But here is the thing if he does take the test. just stay in the middle of the road. Do not be extreme on any issue. Also think team work. |

Thanks for any help he can get. The wabi test and dentals were waived for electricians. They are expediting everything to get them out there. I think thats only electricians though. If you read back on this site you will find tons of info. Good luck. Is he going to Iraq or Afghanistan? |
|
fish5 in Bradenton, Florida 44 months ago |
My husband is to go to Afghanistan. WABI is waived for only HVAC, Plumbers, and Electricians. Other construction entities have to take WABI. He is nervous reading how others have failed this test. Thanks for the help and responses. |

from what i here from folks who have been in country in sharana the living quarters are called hootches, which are tents over wooden frames, they dont have bathrooms but they do have electricity. i will be surveying, most likely for a bunch of new bldgs and such seeing as how surveying is pretty much the first phase in most construction i hope we will get better facilities as time goes on. one can only hope. the proccessing seems to be going according to schedule it seems that all of the guys who have been waitng are finally getting flights out of town. i actually received 4 vaccine shots also all people who go to afghanistan must take an antibiotic everyday they are there. yippie. anyway i'll try and keep ya'll posted on sharana if i can. becareful and God Bless. Thanks for the help and responses. tell him to be sure and take his time with the test. you get 70 mins to complete it so that was plenty of time for me,also when he gets to the end go back to the beginning and double check his answers and then go back and triple check his answers they will ask several of the same questions in many different ways so always answer them the same way yes politically correct is a good start but mostly it really is just good old fashioned common sense i wish him luck and all the best in this endeavor. How did the medical and passport thing go? the antibiotic was also mandatory in iraq in the beggining as well. its just an added measure of medical protection. my motel is a dive but its ok at least i get wi fi and a cold ac:)this morning myself and several other men and women went to the passport office it was orderly and moved rather quickly but it is in a federal bldg wich also houses several fed agengies so there was a ton of security and such the medical was ok but lengthy but its over now so yay!! |

What does the medical/physical entail? Does anyone get sent home from processing after the medical? What kinds of medical problems would get you sent home? Is there an age limit to be a KBR contractor? What is the ratio of men to women for hiring purposes? Being a woman...I am really interested in the KBR positions; however, it seems that more men than women get hired...is that true? Also, what is the best way to get your cover letter and resume noticed? Thank you to anyone who actually responds to my post.

The suicide bombing on Sunday killed six people in a bazaar in Spin Boldak, located in Kandahar province, NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Monday. Along with the deaths, at least 17 people were wounded, and ISAF condemned the assault. Four of those killed were Afghan border police officers, ISAF said. The location is in southern Afghanistan

No, he didn't say anything to me about it. He has not called me today which is so weird. I know last night when he called he was sick with a cold so not sure if he just went to bed and not thought about calling me but normally he has called me by now. When he does, I will ask him. |
|
millied in Raleigh, North Carolina 44 months ago |
Thank you so much for telling your husband. He called me. At first I could not understand when you said my hubby was with your husband. Now I do. The door was food service. But he is in the shop with your hubby. This is so amazing. I know a greater hand is in this. My hubby knows many things in his course of repaires. Some plumbing, and electoral. Some one must have looked cause they need help. I asked was the pay going to increase from the food service pay. He said no because it was just temporary. But I believe that a A mightier hand is at work. I know he works on behalf of his children.

Here is a bit of advice for you guys....STOP WATCHING AND LISTENING AND READING THE NEWS about Iraq and Afghanistan!!! It only makes it worse. I was there for two years and I had to tell my family I would call them if something happens. The news media focuses in on the biggest bombings and they don't tell you where things are actually happening. We would have an incident...I would turn on CNN and they had it all blown out of proportion...then I would have to call my family and "talk them down". You are just going to majorly stress yourselves out and get sick. My sister made herself sick...worrying. It's out of your hands. The best gift you can give to your loved ones over there is the reassurance that you are taking care of business over here and that you are fine and they do not have to worry about you worrying. All know this is all new to you and I am not trying to be insensitive at all. Quite the opposite. Do not listen to the news. There's a good chance that your family in country hasn't even heard the news of any incidents. Ms Sparky

Mrs Sparky you said it right. Best news is when it comes from your loved ones. I was there for almost 3 years. KBR knows how to take care of their workers, no chances are taken. New workers and old are continously told to follow security guidelines. And if they dont call its because maybe phones are down....during dust storms or someother weather conditions phones go down. Good luck everybody. I am trying to go back.
