KBR are still looking for 100+ electricians... UK JIB electricians in Iraq as it is British Standards. But only paying the Journeyman rate... they are saying there is a chance of being upgraded to a master but the word on-site in Iraq is that this is not likely!

12 - 18 months work left. but on B site camps are left I think.

was wondering if anyone has info about electricians goin to iraq? wat does the tests involve once i get to iraq does anyone have any ideas? as im from the uk and im sure we have different regulations etc involving electricity and was wondering if i would have to read up on the american rules and wiring regulations i think yous call it the nec regulations?? im gettin nervous now ha just waitin on my police check coming back then i fly out to texas! any help would be good

Kev all the regs in Iraq are British Standards that's why there's an influx of british sparkies... afghan is nec still... you will be tested in Iraq on TNC, TNC-S, TNS systems etc etc and earthing and bonding... also you will be tested on your testing regarding using a Fluke 1563B MF Meter i think.... the tests in houston are simple.

Doug, did you get it figured out? The title of my travel email was: KBR PROCESSING (GEORGE TURNER #XXXXXX) . It also said in the body that I needed to confirm reciept of the message immediately, and that my check in time was anytime after 3pm at the Hilton in Houston. I didn't get any kind of flight info because I am driving in. Also in the email was the part about needing my CMTS number when I check in and to eat at the DPC and for registration Monday morning.....

Jimmy's e-mail came from a Margaret Shelton in HR, her number is listed as seven one three seven five three 3850. Maybe since they handle travel, they would be there on the weekend?

Best of luck,

GEORGE GO TO page 230.... then jump to one of the freq. flyer pages listed....YOU'LL have to go to each site and sign up.....Don't know anyone that does it for you.....The YA-YA's have been doing that for their guys. Good Idea was to put all airline w/your account #'s on a small card and laminate it. If you can find a UPS store they do that. I'm gonna put my calling card info on it too!!! Put it inside the passport, it'll be there went you check it.

I haven't any info on other then I know they start to get paid on wheels up day--8 hrs. Switch and JDCS may be able to refresh us. I know if my hubby gets out of there in the next few days then we should see a pretty good check come April pay. Your hubby left after mid mouth so you are probably right, won't see anything until April pay--but will be a good one.

i think if they are in country by the 15th they get paid the first fri. of the next month. tell your hubby's to check with HR to make sure that direct deposit has been activated.. someone dropped the ball in houston with our account and jess was persistent once he got to victory and he got payed the thurs. after everyone else got paid.. \

GAZ, I suggest you take it to Houston and you can always put it in a flat rate USPS 10.95 box if needed, to send it home. Im gonna be in Houston tommorow, and I KNOW that as a Heavy Recovery Mechanic I will be at Anaconda for atleast 2 weeks for training. I plan on bringing my cell, laptop, and some other entertainment for the 16+ hrs of flying from Houston to Dubai. I may keep my cell with my and take the battery out just in case of an emergency....

When i came over last march i roomed with a recovery mechanic. we wheels up at the same time. anyways it took 4 weeks to get thru all the training. I used my laptop in my container to watch DVD's since the MWR only had 2 tvs and they were always on sports

Yes we got to anaconda on the 29th of March. i am MHE i left May 2nd he left the 3rd or 4th but from what i remember he was on nights most of his training. You get to do a lot of fun stuff like pick up tankers that were blown up etc but you have to do it as a team and you wear that kevlar vest and helmet so lot of additional weight on you

I know that there are supposed to be 2 weeks of training for drivers but I wonder how long it is for Recovery? I would think that they would tell you how they want the truck hooked up per the base rules. Ive hauled alot of military equipment over here and sometimes the commander will tell you that he wants it secured a certain way ( Chaining a Humvee by the chain ties on the bumpers instead of chaining the axles down)......

Hi Atanyia!

So do tell–if you get a chance-- is it everything you thought it would be? The sights, sounds, smells? What’s the weather like? Is it like a city where you are at now? The camp I mean?

And they allowed him to keep his job? I didn’t think hankie pankie was allowed– no mingling between the sexes or the ranks as far as KBR and the military. The idea being that everyone is there to do a job. As a matter of fact I think this is considered grounds for dismissal. I am not naive, I understand it happens on the sly, and I am sorry it happened to you and yours. Sounds as if you were well rid of him. You are in my thoughts and prayers, and hope you hear something soon.

Well only 11 days left till my hubby comes home, so much to do and not enough hours in the day !!
Hope we have a better week on the forum next week and that people start getting jobs and departure dates. Its been a bit disappointing as of late.
Take care and Doug i hope you got something sorted or you will just have to hang with us for another week !!

As I was reading some of the previous posts I could not believe that some people family members were unsupportive. Like others I understand that there is more attentioned focused on the middle east due to what's going on, but I look at it as no different than being in a city with high crime rates, such as New Orleans, Detroit, Chicago, etc. You can not escape everything in life, you just have to be cautious.

Good luck to all and take care.

Another point I made to my friends and family who have been giving my DH and I a hard time...currently he drives about an hour and fifteen minutes to work, starting on the rural back roads near our home and ending up in Metro Detroit. I feel that he is more likely to be injured or killed driving back and forth everyday than he is in Iraq. With the economy the way it is, more and more people are having to make those kinds of commutes to find work and in my opinion, that is just as dangerous, if not more so.

My hubby processed last November. Yes i went to see him at the weekend and he had a holdover meeting both sat and sun, i went with him. Do you live in Houston? They dont usually let you go home even if you have finished training and waiting around. They might of changed the holdover meeting deal seeing as this is the first time ive heard that noone checks in at weekend.
