Thanks Govany. Wouldn't it be a bit late to try and get that stuff after I was in Houston? I was under the impression from my recruiter that I was bringing everything I needed with me to Houston. |

The list of what you need should be in the packet the recruiter gave you or sent you via email. Hope this helps. |

I had heard that there were some camps that did not allow jeans so you had better take khaki pants as well. Its cooler in the evenings so dont forget some warm stuff and thermals! |

Kinda like showing up at a stag wearing a suit! know what i mean? :-) |

Why the old employes from Macedonia who work same job like me they have double base pay than my? I have been here for two mounths Because Americans are paying all the taxes to allow you to even have a job. Taxes are what is paying you...AMERICAN TAXES..not macedonian or bosnian taxes. Also you are probably making 5 times what you would be making in your country, and we make about 3 times what we could make........THAT is why you make less....what is your country paying into KBR for your employment? O THATS right NOT A THING.... |

I applied to KBR a year or so ago, they contacted me then but I didn't pursue it. I got an email from them a week or so ago talking of how they are looking for liscenced Electricians and the 45% PAY HIKE. I updated my info, and sent a copy of my Masters Liscence to them. They are really after me. I need to talk to a recruiter Tommarrow and find out what they have to say. I've read some of these posts and have heard that I don't want a supervisory position. I still work with the tools, but I have also run a lot of work and am currently a foreman on a $125 million job. I'd like to think that if I were to work as a supervisor/foreman, I might be able to rectify some of the current unfavorable conditions. This is one of the big reasons I am looking at the job. The $$ is a big selling point also, but I have family/friends in the armed forces that are either there or have been, and I would like to help make things better/safer. This is such a huge decision, I have a wife and two daughters at home, and am trying to do the right thing all around. Do I miss out on a year I can't get back with my family, but be in a much better mortgage free debt free position? And maybe be able to make things better for those over there? My wife isn't thrilled about me going, but she understands why I'm considering this, and also knows me well enough to know that if I don't I'll probably regret not trying. I'm just ranting, I'm probably voicing the concerns of a lot of folks in the same situation. What to do, What to do. |

Many employees have been told they were going to a certain base and when they arrived in Baghdad they were told "you have been reassigned". It happened to my husband. He was also moved temporarily to another camp and told it would be for 6 weeks so leave your personnel stuff. It has been 6 months and they permantly reassigned him to the temporary camp and now he can't seem to get his personnal stuff. He is still asking everyday but he doesn't beleive he will ever see his stuff again. That is the KBR way. Debbie |

Zeph if you are thinking this then you are delusional and in for quite the disappointment and frustration. If you haven't experienced it yet, which obviously you haven't then I can't explain it to you, you need to experience it first hand. His stuff is still in his hooch at Camp Delta. Billetting has called him and asked what to do with his stuff since he has been reassigned to Camp Echo. They said they didn't have the staff to box it up and mail it to him. He has an employee that hi presently at his camp now that is leaving to go back to Camp Delta and lives in the hooch next to him. He has my husband's key and is going to box it up and mail it to him. This stuff is not only his personnal stuff but his winter clothes, which he will need very soon. It was summer when he left. I sent a few items of winter clothing but he will need more then that to get through the winter months. Maybe these will work and he will get his stuff soon. |

The packages I have sent my husband take from 2 to 3 weeks to arrive. I have sent clothes, magazines, DVD movies, medicine, first aid supplies, even a small sewing kit. Food stuff is usually hard candies, beef jerky, pop top soups, ravalio, etc. I also have send crackers, cheese in a can, summer sausage, pepperoni slices, hot sauce and canned chips. Just remember to send small and large ziploc bags for them to store the extras once opened as the bugs, etc. get to stuff fast. I also place and liquid stuff, eg. shampoo, hand cream, etc in sealed ziplock bags so if the come open it is not all over everything. You can not send beer, liquor or any porn stuff. Grounds for dismissal if found. Hope this help. Debbie |

Geez, that was good description Debbie, I think I speak for all when I say we appreciate you sharing. I think I'm going to go get some of those boxes you or someone mentioned from USPS and loosly pack some of the things I know I'll need/want and then leave them open for additions/deductions as needed and for them to be sent as needed. I'd hate for something to happen and then I'm busy looking for ways to get things mailed back to me. I'm sure that will be super expensive to send them back home at the end of the contract as well. |

Have your spouse keep the boxes you mail items in. They can be broken down for space saving. The cost is $10.95 per box for the large flat rate box, regardless of weight. Many of the clothing items will not be worth bring back home so they can be left behind. There are plenty of employees lying in wait for others to leave so they can go through the trash. My husband said his room mate who is from South Africa brings items home everyday that have been left outside. |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 43 months ago |
Get the flat rate boxes from the post office or check my comments for the mailing instructions. You can order the boxes for free online from USPS. YOu can also get the custom sheet that must be completed with every box. The flat rate boxes cost $9.95 or $10.95 regardless of weight. I am not sure about the XM satelitte but you can send DVD player, MP players, etc. |

They can get cigarettes cheaper over there then we pay for them here. PX may not have their brand but they can buy a carton of foreign cigs for about $4.00. My husband says there not bad. |

FYI for Electricians, I am a master electrician, the recruiter told me they have a master electrician who reviews your resume to see if you have the experience they are looking for to fill the master electricians positions. If he feels you do not have the experience they are looking for. They will hire you for the journeyman position, The pay is as follows. Journeyman roughly 122k per yr.

Everyone who ended up there from my husbands group is a "foreman." Journeyman and Masters alike. He said they would be responsible for a couple of other workers. Teaching them, making sure they are doing the job right, etc. My husband is a Master and was told that KBR does not hire outside for supervisory positions and that if he wanted one he would need to come in as a regular worker and be promoted in country. |

Well he went in last sunday to process. He is extremely tired. It was medical day yesterday so they got picked up at 4am. Luckily he already had his passport so he got back to the hotel about 3.30pm. He is not sure how many went home , guess he will find out today. he has a full schedule until saturday, finishing off with CPR and First Aid. They have said that they are getting the electricians off fast.Im expecting him to leave monday or tuesday, that is the BUZZ anyway. I think he said there were just over 400 that came in. |

For all you electricians that are going soon. In Houston you will receive an electrical test. I dont think its pass or fail. There are only a handful of code books that they have. The rest of the people have to get the code book off the computer. For those of you that are computer savvy thats no problem. My husband however is not too hot on the computer so he could not access the codebook!! There were a lot like him !! Brush up on your computer techniques!! |

I'm sure the rest of us will just be dragging along with getting out of there. I guess He'll be leaving just after I get there.
