One question here, when you actually are speaking with your recruiter, are ther contacting you everytime or are you able to contact them at anytime with questions? Just curious to know. Thanks in advance for the feedback. |

Gilbert Kramer in San Antonio, Texas 43 months ago |
So far I have had no problem contacting my recruiter by phone whenever I need to. |

Wonderful. The reason I'm wondering about contact with the recruiter is to see how their line of business works. Meaning, if each of them work with a certain number of recruits at one time or however. It's just been so long on my wait for one to contact me for conversation. I'm in IT, and see at least 10 jobs still posted on the site, and well I was thinking that they would be fast to pickup IT personnel. May have assumed incorrectly. My next reason for staring conversation here is to reach out to see if anyone would be willing to share their contact info for their recruiter. All I need to do is have conversation one time with any one of them, and it's money in their pocket as well as mine. It would be a blessing, for one of you to share if possible. If so, you can just send to my email is below.

Hey does anyone know what the attire is in Houston? Do we have to wear steel toe boots and jeans there, or are we able to wear jeans and some sneakers, or do we have to actually dress up? What about sweat suits, or little jump suits? Any and all feedback is helpful and I do thank you in advance. |

Crystal01 in Maine said: How did medical go for you? My husband said it was the hardest day... Hi Crystal!!!! Sorry it's been such a long time guys. I have finished with EVERYTHING as of today. I have nothing but 5pm meetings M-F from here on out where they tell me if I'm on the next flight out or not. This is such a great opportunity and I can't wait to go wheels up to start earning my pay. I've made this type of money before but the tax break and the travel and the different experienced is just unmatched. I know for a FACT this type of job is not for everyone so I'd never give the advise to come unless you have no other options however....medical was long, hard and frustrating. There was so much going on and so much to take in I just laughed a few times to move the day along. It was by far the most hardest day. BUT the most trying day was Thursday with all of that boring safety training, UGGGHHHHH! I thought I was going to die from boredom and being so sleepy! LOL How is everything for you? |

Okay… my husband is scheduled to be in Houston on the 16th for processing. (We have yet to receive his travel packet) When his recruiter told him that he could have him there by then we were surprised.

niece706 in Augusta, Georgia 43 months ago |
Hey wirenutts wife and blckmrvl, I'll also be there on the 16th to start processing on the 17th. As for the medical portion, the only thing that I heard that was truly stressful was the blood pressure (which if it is over 150/85) they are sending people home, but it was said that they will check it more than once. Also, they do an AIDS testing, they also make sure that you are able to do a squat. This is what I've been told thus far. Maybe cooljay for frye, switch, or BMO, can enlighten or correct me if I am wrong with some info. But, most is what I was just told by a recruiter on Thursday! Hope this helps.....

Good morning Wirenuts Wife, My husband is currently in Iraq and has been there for 17 months. Check your spam mail because sometimes that is where the items go for travel. If not there call your recruiter. My husband was told at processing he was going to Camp Anaconda but when he arrived in Baghdad he was told "change of location" to Camp Delta. What a hell hole, no PX, one very small chowhall, double bunked in container made for one. It was very tough to get through the first few months, he adjusted but still it was difficult. Camp Delta had coalition military when he first arrived and most of the employees were also foreign nationals. Communication was difficult but you figure it out and make it work. Don't know anything about the credit union but it would make sense that they would have something like that. There are several wivies on this forum and will can help you through the transition. Keep in touch. Debbie |

Glad to hear you are done and made it out alive, lol! Hopefully you won't sit for too long waiting for your flight. My husband had a long wait (things were back up from the hurricane) and it sucked! So Thursday was the worst?! My husband didn't mention much about it other then the gas mask training (that was Thursday, right?). I was glad that he had CPR traning again. It will be good for him to have when he gets back home. You're right. The job is definitely not for everyone. I'm always surprised/impressed when I read of women that are over there or wanting to go over. No way do I have the guts to do that! My husband has a good sense of adventure and seems to be making the most of it. I think I'd be crying in my tent everyday, lol!
Stay out trouble and update when you can! Take care |

Hello redbuddafly, My husband is processing on the 17th and any info you can share about your experiences would be terrific. My email address is annestewart68@aol.com Also, can anyone explain how the pay works, what and how do they calculate the uplifts? We don't quite understand all this. Thanks for your responses.

redbuddafly in Houston, Texas said: Sorry, Hey redbuddafly, question, I see that you are in Houston, so how long did it take for them to send your itenerary to you, or did they even have to do that? Because I know they said that we can get ours no later than 12 noon the Friday before we are set to leave. Which will be the 14th for me.... |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 43 months ago |
The formula works like this: base pay X 12 divided by 2080 = hourly rate. pay week starts on Sunday and they receive 75% uplifts for the first 40 hours worked then straight hourly rate for the other 44 hours. I prepared a spread sheet and have been able to figure out check coming before it gets here. They are now holding out 6.2% for social security and 1.45% for medicare. If your other half takes a sick day or holiday the only get paid for 8 hours with no uplifts. R&R is only straight hourly rate with no uplifts. Travel days are also straight 8 hours with 75% uplifts till they leave Baghdad then it is only 40% uplifts in Dubai. This probably only confused you more. LOL |

He said he had put on about 5 lbs with the chow hall. Seems to be in good spirits. He started his 7 day training today and said it was informative all about code and grounding. Not long now until we know if he makes it to camp liberty. I just want him settled somewhere. Time is ticking slowly my end, and his too he just wants to get to work. |

I am supposed to be goint to Houston on the 1st and I have read a lot of posts about what to bring and not to bring. My question is will I be able to call home and what about the use of the internet? Does everyone get a laptop or just a few and if I dont will I be able to find one to use? Does it cost anything? |
