switch in Austin, Texas said: Debbie. You still have a monthly cell phone bill right with how many minutes? How does that work out cheaper ? My hubby still has his phone card that he went over with. He calls me and i call him back on that Houston number so he doesnt use his minutes. My home phone has that freedom package so i dont pay more for any long distance. I know its probably easier to have that cell cos then you can go out and not miss a call but do you think i would save anymore? I want the best value for my money too. I just wonder how much it would be per month on a cell phone.. Debbie.. so when they call from overseas they will be given a Houston #. If I have unlimited nationwide minutes on my cell then I wont have problems with extra charges if he calls me... but rather he's the one that will run into charges...
is this correct... I think this is what Im understanding from it... |

They are made by converse #8674. I beleive that is black but Greg asked for camel color this time. Maybe if you get to that # they will give you options of colors. Debbie |

My cell phone provider hasseled me a bit but tell them you need a 281 or 713 prefix and they should be able to get you a houston number. It saves money and I use only that phone so I can be reached anytime and never miss a phone call. |

He will not be using a cell phone, the phone banks have regular land lines and he will have to use a calling card to call you if you don't have a houston number for him to call. Phone cards cost us about $37.00 for 750 minutes. And we were using about 3-4 a month. |

I'm going today and change mine to a Houston number. Thank you Debbie and everyone else that has experience. Us newbies are taking advantage of your experiences. This helps us and our families. Thank You |

Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 43 months ago |
that would be correct |

jdcs wife in riverside, California 43 months ago |
I agree with Traveling man...thanks for the info... If our company give us a hard time about changing one of our numbers Im sure we can add a line for $10 or so... Thank God for technology... can you imagine not hearing their voice!! that would drive me insane!! My hubby hasnt left yet but Im already going crazy just thinking about it.. |
|
Koko Wilson in Florida 43 months ago |
"Thank God for technology..." I second this and thanks too again to all of you for your experience. I remember the days of –and no, I can no longer imagine though I am preparing myself with the idea that I may not be able to hear his voice every day. Though I am please to see others are saying that they have or nearly so, gotten to speak to their hubby’s on a daily bases as such. I think the longest I have went without talk to mine back in the days of was about 60 days. I remember one thing about his former travels overseas, an odd but good side effect. They seem to remember when we aren’t there every day with them, how much they love us and need us. The distance apart helps you to learn to appreciate each other all the more. Its true what that say, that it either makes you or breaks you. |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 43 months ago |
Amen to that statement. I love mine even more then I thought before he left. I can't wait till he is back home and I will never stress over the small stuff anymore. Debbie |

Debbie you said your husband has been overthere for 17 months.. is this by his choice... My husband was offered an 11 month contract (well in order to get the tax free)... can you give me some more info on your situation? |

niece706 in The Little "A", Georgia said: ok cool. thanks for all of your assistance, you've been a great help. you be safe and take care over there....hope to see you around sometime or another... :) Yeah, I'm here in processing (bored out of my mind Switch), and a few people have their spouses here now. One of them checked out of his hotel (here in the Hilton) because he had a roommate and his wife came in town. He told the manager recently that's what he did and the manager said, no need to do that, if you have a roommate and you have family coming, let one of the staffmembers know and we'll get you a room to yourself with a card key for the family member. They don't care about that at all. So tell the family to come on. Trust me, sometime in the 2nd week you'll be begging for ANYONE to come spend time with you. I even asked my brother to make a trip. No transportation unless you rent a car of something. Even then, the traffic is so horrible, you won't want to drive (and I'm from Atlanta traffic). LOL |

Best advise that was given to me by a 5 year associate of KBR was to answer honest and truthfully. Think being safe and following directions and do not be "adventerous" in your answers. No, you are not a risk taker or anything like that. You are safe and follow directions. That's all. Nothing major, no trick questions...I swear. |
|
jdcs wife in riverside, California 43 months ago |
Fyre..how long have you been in processing? |
|
Fyre in Atlanta, Georgia 43 months ago |
seriously, I told immediate family that I am going to Iraq and that's it. Friends and extended relatives all they know is that I'm going to/through Dubai...the richest country in the world. To them, I'm in the middle of the best experience of my life. That part is true. The friend that got me on has been there for almost 6 years and he bought a home and a luxury car, large luxury SUV motorcycle and a nice retirement account (all of which to be paid off in the next 10-11 months). Call it crazy if you will, I call it life changing. Any other opportunity that can bring you above the poverty line and not have to pay federal taxes and travel the world? My 2nd R&R is already being planned out (because I'm going home during the 1st one). I'm buying tickets to see tennis at Wimbledon's All English Club in June/July and I'm flying a couple members of family to enjoy it with me (those that enjoy tennis). The 3rd R&R is South Africa. Don't think I'll even stop after 1 year. :D |

I talked to some return employees and they said that the one thing is that KBR has always been honest and forthcoming about the situations. If you note, the war conditions are the best in history. I only have a very very small worry about that aspect of it. The living conditions worry me but they have pictures in the DPC of all the different camps and they don't seem as bad. Some camps have to share bathrooms and such :( but a large bulk of them seem to have individual trailors with private bathrooms and they feed you VERY WELL as well. Enough entertainment on most of the camps and all that. You must be a person that can follow directions to make it over there though. It's not the military but it's probably best that you have the discipline as though it is. |

Fyre.. My husband told his family that he is going to Dubai... Im sure the'll find out sooner or later... his mom overheard us talking about it the other day and she must have heard something about Iraq because she screamed at the top of her lungs form the other room.."jess if you ever think about going into the military again I will kill you"... he was in the Navy and got out just before 911...although this is not a military assignment I know she would have a heart attack..My husband just called me and said that he told his mom and she took it pretty welll (But he told her he was going to Dubai)... Anyhow.. his recruiter just called him and he will be sending the paperwork by email and he should be ready to go out to Houston on Dec. 7th.. Christmas will be hard this year!! |

As you can tell this is my first time flying alone, and I'm just a bit concerned, about where to go once I arrive overseas, that's all. I am scheduled to go to Afghanistan, so we'll see..... u won't be flying alone, ill be there 2....and i got a feeling we got a pretty big group goin to the same spot |

One of their systems went down last week on the military side which affected the ability for folks to deploy, then we had veterans day as well when nothing happened. Nobody flew out Mon-Thurs this week. First flights were Friday. There is about 800 people stuck here until they get thru the backlog, not to mention the new class coming in this Sunday. Going to be a real Charlie Foxtrot. |

I hope the delays will be over by then... the fact that we are not spending Christmas together is already sad but if he is just delayed in Houston and spends Christmas there by himself...now that would just get me really mad... |
