I hear that. People only hear what they want to hear so no need to worry the rest of the family like that. LOL

Christmas will be hard this year, yes...but birthdays and anniversary and Christmas next year should more than make up for it, don't ya think? (plenty on the check to put up for those occasions). ;)

Make sure you continue to looking at the big picture and you'll be just fine.

Been dying to know what on earth happened to you. So you are on holdover now? Thats 2 weeks this sunday right?
It seems forever since i was there, i understand that you are bored but i hope that you met a good group of people to keep you somewhat busy. Whats the word on your flight or camp?
Take care, keep us posted. We have been missing you on the forum..

See this is why I come on here. Thanks for those kind words Switch. Yeah, I'm in holdover. All the people that kept me sane are now gone. 2 weeks tomorrow is right. Ugh! It's cool, I'm being patient. I had the worse earache in the world yesterday so it was probably best I didn't fly (God always knows what he's doing). I have issues with cabin pressure anyhow so....

No new word on my camp and not sure when I fly now. Should be sometime next week. I'm assuming Thursday to be honest.

How's your husband doing? Any new word on that?

from what I hear...----DON'T BELIEVE THEM, YOU'LL NEED COLLAR SHIRTS----
A guy brought nothing but tee's at the advise of his recruiter and that's all he brought. He had to throw them away and go to Wal-Mart and get mock Polo shirts to replace them. All KBR reps must wear collar shirts and baseball style hats at all times.

Sup Dimes!!! Long time no speak to. Haven't received an email from you in a while either. I'm here about to embark on my 2nd week at the Hilton and was supposed to leave Thursday (checked out, weighed bags and everything) and still here. However, over 70% of the rest of my class left right on schedule Friday and today (Saturday). No one is scheduled to leave tomorrow nor Monday. Next flights are Tuesday. It's all good though. I was pissed, but I'm cool now. LOL

No Fyre is not an electrician. As far as clothes go, just pack a few of each like we did. He has enough stuff for a few weeks. As soon as he gets an APO box i can ship what weve missed or what he really seems to need. There were quite a few in Houston i saw with Carharts. You can always buy a few things at the PX too

Koko, Yes it seems like forever that hes been in Baghdad. He actually arrived there a week last wednesday but they still had a class in training so my hubby had a few days off and started his training last saturday. So today it will be one week. They still have a few things to go over but he is hoping to be assigned tomorrow. I keep saying that but thats what he says !
He is meant to be going to Camp Liberty but they keep saying you will go where the greatest need is, so i feel that we cant guarantee on that now but ill keep you posted. Its been a hard eek for him. My husband doesnt do well sitting at a desk for 11-12 hours a day being taught and quizzed !!! British Standards apply out there so get ready..

KOKO By the way i think the luggage allowance is the same now for Iraq and Afgan 44lbs. Check again with your recruiter or look back on this site, i remember reading it before. Im pretty sure its true though. I remember seeing 44lbs for both countries at the weigh in place at the center.

Yes he is in good spirits and has not waivered from his decision. The thing i think is hard right now is the walk into the unknown. First its processing, then onto training and still not knowing where he will end up. All the guys are chomping at the bit and ready to get to work !! I just want to get through this first month then everyone says it gets easier, routine, phone calls etc.
Some days are harder than others, hey i nearly brought him home from Houston and when he was late calling me i said Thats it come home i cant stand it. Little things that soon blow over, and im sure everybody goes through it. He does as Debbie said earlier miss me and i him. I think through all of this we will learn to appreciate eachother more. I tell him one day closer to his fishing boat !! Thats what we have to remind ourselves of, what we will be able to achieve in the end. Today was a good day...

I asked the same question about the shirts. They suggest all office personnel wear collared shirts. Electricians have options but I was also told it is best to dress for success, you can't go wrong that way.

No Iraqbound, I am still in the game. Hey you remember the electrician we met at the beginning of the week, the explosives specialist. The one that said that if he goes home he will head to Vegas to do the fireworks. Well he got sent home. Something about his medical, he did not elaborate. I know this sounds crazy, but I was kinda happy he did because, he was having such terrible luck, nothing was going right for him since he got there. I wanted to tell him a few days ago that I had a bad feeling about him and that he should heed the signs, and go home rethink it. He just kept talking about the money. But you know what money ain't everything, especially when you have options. Anyway, fate stepped in and sent him home. He didn't even know what kind of work he was going to be doing. Explosives specialist....duh what do you think? Anyway, hope you have a fabulous day. I will see you tonight maybe, I am shooting pool around 9 or 10pm downstairs. I am at home with my family right now, doing chores. Mowing the grass...;)

Also, this is for people just browsing through the site, trying to figure out if this is for you. If you have experience in something they are in need of right now, like electrician, explosives technician or some other important skill. If you do not want to do that job, don't put it on your resume. I met two ex military electricians, who wanted to come in and do an easy job, like I dunno... document specialist or something. The recruiter told them one thing and when they got here their job title was changed to electrician. Just FYI.

If the document has grayed out areas just click on the space and the cursor indicator should appear, just type in the response and do the same the same for the rest of the questions. Always save the document in case you need it later.

Our document doesn't... There is another way that I use in my classroom documents but I would manually have to highlight each area that needs a response and type the answers.. sort of like inserting the textbox...but the textbox background color is left in yellow.... plus this will just take a huge amount of time...

I think we will just print it out...can we hand write too or does it have to be typed???

We just briefly browsed through the documents.. it seems as though some paperwork is needed before others... my hubby was told by his recruiter to submit his stuff within 48hrs...some of the stuff they ask for requires more than a 48hr time frame...

can I get some input please

Finally we have got word. My hubby has been assigned to Camp Speicher. Not the one he was originally told but from what i gather this camp is not too bad at all. If anyone has any info on Camp Speicher in Iraq please, please share it..
Another thing to note, there were 2 people in his group that were on the buddy system, they have be assigned to different camps. Like hubby said they will guarantee the passage over there together. But once in country all bets are off.

Switch,

Im glad that you finally heard on a more permanent location for your husband..You will have some piece of mind.. My husband and I try to search for info as all the camps are mention by all of the wives and people that are finally overseas.....This gives us a little more perspective as to what to expect (or not expect)when its his turn to wait for placement

My hubby has been communicating with one of his old co-workers (he's s traveling man too) just to pass on the info about the need for electricians.. he may go too.. that makes me feel more comfortable (for my hubby to have a familiar face)...but I did get the sense that once they're there 'all bets are off' just like you put it...

although (for me) it would be nice for him to have a familiar face, its not a concern for him...maybe he will run into one of the guys from this forum...

Again, Im glad you heard the news about where your hubby will be...please keep up posted on the conditions

Thank you for your thoughts. I will keep you posted. Its so hard to find exact information on camps because nothing seems to be updated, the info is from years back.

Getting on a flight list and actually flying are 2 separate things. Just being on the list doesn't mean you will actually fly.

“my hubby was told by his recruiter to submit his stuff within 48hrs...some of the stuff they ask for requires more than a 48hr time frame...”

JDCS’s wife, I would think if you need more than 48 hrs to get the paperwork together that you will just need to call the recruiter.

Hi Switch, I guess I am not really surprised by the buddy system- they were like that in the army too.
Good news that your hubby got an assignment, Camp Speicher. If you go to www.flickr.com/, and type in Camp Speicher, you will find about 109 shots/ photos of to get a sense of–just click on the thumbnails option and it will pull them up for you. Please keep in mind some of these photos are older–2004 or earlier–so likely to be improvement and growth since--also there is likely more than 109 photos of Flickx, its just that only 109 got tagged with Camp Speicher.

Need to catch up more from the weekend. ? How long did it take for you to get the packet? I worried this way too about filling it in when it does come, so I may be in with questions.

HA!
I know whats it's like..... having favorite tools that you're accustom to using. Most of my fav electrical working tools are Kline... lost with-out them. A couple of those were handed down from my Grandfather, still in perfect working order. Guess I'll get my Dads when he decides to give them up, he's retired now, but still does some "Side Work" every now and then.
