I don't have a phone number for any recruiters. The one my husband worked through is no longer there. The best way is to apply for as many jobs as you have qualifications for through KBR's web site. Right now they seem to be focused on hiring licensed electricians, but other jobs are open. Just stick with it. Fluor and Dynacorp are the major companies in Iraq and they also have their own websites. To my knowledge Dynacorp has some positions open and posted on their site. Check it out and see if there is any job yu have skills for. Good Luck

KBRinsider in houston, Texas said: FYI there is going to be an even bigger back up here in houston. Yesterday their were people that were waiting for their orders for overseas that have been here for a week or longer, who were caught yesterday "smoking" outside one of the hotels. Of course they were given their ticket home, but for the others they are ALL having to undergo drug testing again. Those that did their testing yesterday are exempt of course. But this will add to the waiting period..... Is smoking banned entirely? I hate to sound, dumb but I guess I am wondering why someone outside on their downtime is sent home? Did "smoking" mean pot or tobacco? Thanks |

They were caught smoking pot after drug test were done. |

Thanks It was pot that these guys were smoking. Downtime or not if you participate in an any kind of illegal activity you go home. They had completed their medical the previous week and had already taken their drug tests so they thought that they could induldge themselves before leaving the country. As far as I know they do not have problems with people smoking cigarettes. It is a wise idea not to smoke on the day you have your medical done. They do test your lung capacity and if you smoke prior to this test you could have difficulty in passing. |

Oh my goodness! I don't check the board for a few days and it seems like everything has been happening!
I can't wait for an address to send him a big package from home. from what I have read here, he is going to need a lot of things that we didn't think of packing. (By the way, thanks for the list, it will come in handy) I love this board! I have found out more about this company and its inner workings than from the company itself! |

This may seem like a crazy question but here goes. I noticed people discussing wieght limits on how much stuff you can bring. (Like 40 or 44 lbs)...Is there a size limit too? I like my pillows and would bring them, not too much weight but they do take up room? Thanks
|
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 42 months ago |
If you can get it in your suitcase or carry them on plane and your check in bag weighs less then 44 lbs. you will be fine. I like my pillows to, I carry them anytime I'm away from home. LOL Debbie |

We went and bought those vaccum space saver bags and was able to condense alot of what went into his bags. just dont unseal the bags until you get to your final destination cause you wont have a vaccum in houston! |

"Already has been asked to turn his R&R days in so to make sure they are covered and not too many gone at the same time. My husband hasnt left yet (he goes to Houston on the 7th) and they asked him to think about the days soon... I am due with our 2nd baby on April 27th and I already have gotten over the fact that he probably wont be here for the birth... Does it have to be at the 4 month mark?? or can he schedule R&R for later.. I would rather have him come home when the baby is a few days or weeks old instead of him coming home when I am huge at the end of the pregnancy..then he would go back and not come home until the baby's bigger.. (i dont want that) Of course I would be blessed if God would have me go into labor when his plane is landing and he can actually be here for the birth... I'll continue praying that thats what will happen.. |

Switch , did your husband bring any books ( reference) code books etc. I was advised to bring any books that I thought would help but I dont want to go overboard. I am planing to bring code book and a couple other reference books but I only want to bring reference material that will be useful. |

He arrived in Houston this past Sunday and will fly out this sunday. He said they are rushing electricians through there really fast. Other people are still waiting around. He said that others there are starting to get really angry at the whole thing. |

It will help with the test in Houston. Its true they hardly have any to give out. My hubby didnt take any books, there were a few that did though. I will ask him tomorrow if he recommends bringing anything. |

He said the sheets were too small for the bed and kept coming off ! How long does your hubby spend at each camp ? Will he go to all the camps in Afghanistan ? Yes my hubby has to have a plan in place so we will all feel better when he gets to his destination. He is called a CJOA I believe, which is where he will go to all the smaller bases as needed. He arrived in Bagram, stayed a few days then to Kandahar. There he stayed a week and was then moved to Tarin. He seems so much beeter there than Kandahar. I can hear the difference in his voice. Actually getting quite comfortable, except for the lack of blanket. :) |

No he only had 2 days of some training/rules in Bagram I believe and not sure about British Standards. He didnt mention anything about that, but I will ask him in the AM. |

My other half is at Camp Echo G6 that is in the city of Diwaniyah. This camp is one of the worst camps in country. It is North West of Baghdad. Good Luck at Al Asad I don't recall anyone on this site that was going to any B sites. So I can't speak about the conditions there. But then again KBR is good about saying your going to one Camp and then shipping you to another camp after you are in country. Debbie |

Did you guys see this article today. KBR and all Americans have lost diplomatic immunity in Iraq as of Dec 31st. That would be enough for me to go home. If you break Iraqi law now you could be on your own. And their laws are not like ours. Read the article here.

Well hubby's contract was changed. It looks like he is going to Bagram, Afgan. instead of Iraq. Same pay. Just way colder from what I understand. As of now he is still scheduled to fly out on sunday though. We'll see! This is the third time his location has been changed and he hasn't even left the country yet!! |

Looking through most of the recent posts here there seems to be little information for those of us interested in working for KBR in an administrative-type role. Is there anyone here that could help in answering a few questions regarding working conditions, ie. office environment, living conditions, what camps in Iraq or Afganistan you would likely be working at, etc. This site has been very informative regarding what to expect in Houston, but I am having difficulty visualizing what a typical workday is like for an office worker...can anyone help with this? Thanks for your efforts! |
