I hate to say that I have been lurking in the shadows, but I was getting a bit put off by some of the stuff that was flying thru the forum......
But your changing over was pretty easy wasn't it?? In the long run, are you better off with Dynacorp?? or at least happier?? But is Fluor going to come in and talk to the guys and then make them an offer to transistion or demob?? Also, by trade, Jimmy is a millwright, and just to get his foot in the door, he took the labor job, so is it possible for him to go to HVAC or Carpentry or Plumbing......with who ever comes in??

Sorry for the questions.....but you are the go to guy! And I like to know all the in's and out's..........

Thanks in Advance

I was with Dyncorp for a month LOL a better job back in Iraq making more of course came along. But while i was in Kuwait i saw first hand how it worked. THey had recruiters who came in and spoke with the employees. KBR made it difficult even though they were on the way out. They wouldnt let them talk during work hours. Went as far to even send out a bogus letter stating nobody was interested. but they asked them if they wanted to sign on and if they wouldnt tell them what they were making then dyncorp would low ball them so my suggestion is if they ask then give up wht you make or risk gettin a pay cut. Should not be a problem to get a different job as long as they have the openings.

Wow! I must have missed something! I thought DynaCorp was your final stop....But I really appreciate your thoughts. I sometimes run out of ideas and with all I have going on here, it's really, really hard to dispense advice to Jimmy. And he was definatly looking for that today and I just didn't have a game plan. I kinda thought that he wouldn't be affected so soon, but that's they way it goes.

I reckon that if Jimbo is asked about his current salary, he could give it up, because Fluor is taking over. And it would be the perfect to make a move to a better position. And there is openings.....The old goat will just have to sell himself.

Hope that all goes will with your new position. Nothing like being ahead of the game! LOL

Hello Mrs Glas and welcome to the board.

Not real familiar with ingletts & stubbs–the process of-- though I know they hire electricians– correct–and are a union shop–hiring union electricians and have a contract or two in Afghanistan. I imagine the process is much the same–and it great to see other families with loveone working for other companies making their way in to the boards. Ask any questions you have and we will do our best to help you. I sure we can help you as far as what to pack and calling cards--and mailign packages and of course be here for you for support. Is your hubby already over there? If not, when is he set to leave?

I am for bed for the evening but will catch up with everyone tomorrow.

Hi Kathy!

My hubby and I are planning a trip over in November and don't really want to go to the "tourist Ireland" does that make sense? I'd like to see how the people live on a day to day basis, things like that. My Fathers family is Irish don't know a thing about them though except my maiden name is McCafferty.

Hi Mona I live about 10-15 mins outside Belfast, we're only 2 mins from some countryside. That's the good thing about Northern & Southern Ireland, 1 minute your on the city and within 10 mins you can be out in the countryside. Whereabouts are you flying into, probably Dublin I would think! I haven't been very far into the south of Ireland, when we go away on holidays we go to Spain etc for the good weather lol. Alot of the south of Ireland is touristy, that's probably how they make their money, I know that the south coast around Dingle bay etc is meant to be beautiful. I hope to make it down there myself some day. If you're coming in November it'll be a bit quieter than the summer months anyway so there may not be alot to tourist around. Sorry I'm not much help lol!!

I just hope that hubby can figure out how to bring his certification papers home with him if he gets send home. That would help getting another job somewhere else.

On a brighter note with this mess,,, I am waiting to put the rest of the firewood in the shed until I find out if he is coming home... it'll give him something to do,, that and my house is still half torn apart and if he wants to you his side of the room,,,, well i need to get stuff put back where it belongs. :)

Morning , it's going fine so far . Paul just called he didn't call last night and I have been worried all night of course. He said he went to get the internet they have there to try it out. Said it worked pretty good but that his skype somehow disapeared between Houston and last night. Couldn't remember how to get on windows live so he just checked his email and went to bed. He doesn't kow anything yet about what's going on with the cuts there.Still too early plus he was rushing me off the phone.

im sure they have an idea if they are on the chopping block so to speak. i know in my old shop the foreman had to basically rack and stack people 1st order was if you were licensed on everything. he told the couple guys who only had the small forklifts if they didnt upgrade he had no real justification to keep them if it came down to it. then it went on if you had write ups IE safety or accidents etc then on your work ethic IE wreckless or i dont care attitude being late to work always complaining. stuff like that.
