Well thats cool. The Sheraton is decent. But I would check out hotels on the net. Prices vary there are over 360 hotels in the Houston Area. Your son will be around the greenspoint area not really a safe place to be. It ok during the day but at night it changes. You will have to rent a car also. I wish I could help you out more on the hotels. I just stayed at where KBR put me those three times, The Airport INN was one of them and The Sheraton was ok. I wish you luck and Your son also going thru Houston, Please let me know how it goes. I'm in Dubai right know on my way back to Bagdad, Iraq. God Speed, Mark

I was active army for 7 years in supply, got out as an E-6 and I am tring to get on with KBR as soon as possible but I am not sure I am qualified. I sent in my resume to about 10 jobs. Does anyone have any inside contacts with KBR that can help me?

rpgonzales in Katy, Texas said: I've been doing alot of research for the past month on KBR and the options out there along with studying the environment and experiences employees have had in Iraq and Dubai. I'm seriously considering pursuing a position with KBR, either in Iraq for the 75% uplift or Dubai for the experience. I'm only 25 but have 10 years of corporate IT experience (6yrs Healthcare & 4yrs Oil & Gas) and currently the Director of IT for a hospital in Houston. I've seen IT positions (not from KBR) showing salaries of $35K/month and wondered if there is even a chance KBR would offer that or are these online posting just a way to get people's resumes to initiate talks with possible candidates. I've began to also look into ITT for positions, but didn't know how much of a difference their salaries were to KBR and if anyone had a personal contact for ITT in Iraq or Dubai.

So in summary:
1. What type of IT position would I qualify for with my experience above and what type of salary ranges could I expect if the position were located in Iraq or Dubai?
2. $35K/month a realistic salary when based in Iraq?
3. ITT recruiting contact besides their website?
4. Iraq salaries vs. Dubai salaries?
5. Expected range and frequencies of bonuses?

Thank you in advanced for your help and responses.

Really,
I'm in IT as well with a similar career path.
Looking to do work in Iraq.
Where have you seen such postings for 35k a month?
Meaning which companies? Your post was a month ago, any new updates for you
yet?

I was in the Army for 10 yrs and a NG for another 6; however I have been out since 92 (active - Gulf War vet) and 98 for the NG. I have read on this blog that unless it was less than 7 years ago - things are tough to get in to KBR or other companies overseas as an "older" vet. Is that the case? Also, I DO owe some back taxes - this is the main reason I'm trying to go over - to pay UNCLE Sam his due...I have been applying to KBR for more than 2 years! Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

on the G&I side, KBR has a few people working at the airbase.
On the E&C side like myself, we are working the Pearl project for Shell. These where all management and Engineering positions. This job was basically by invitation only. no job postings. Time to start networking and meeting the right people.

mgparrothead007 in Bagdad said: Hey no worries always glad to help. I've been thru Houston, Tx 3 times and I am always ready to help if needed. KBR is a very large company. People have there says even I do. But they do pay the bills and provide a very large chance to see the world with my family and we are in the middle of purchasing a 3,000 sq. ft home and we have a 2006 Chrysler town and country mini van, that is loaded but we will trade it in next year on a 2009. So I'm in alot better shape 10 fold because of KBR. And my family always comes first. I just want to see everyone have an easier trip thru Houston. My first time there was in August 2004. And there was a bunch of peoples background lost. Over 100 truck drivers which included myself. We found out on the 1st day of week 3. So it extended our stay by 2 more weeks and a few days. Now they have corrected that problem so that will not happen to anyone else. They are in many ways trying to make things easier on everyone including themselves. You will always here alot of stories but always remember its upto you. You are the one who can change your life. My big thing is never to miss a movement, never lose your paperwork, and never lose a badge. And always always go by there rules no matter how crazy we think they are, they are the ones who hold the contract with the US government. We are the ones who get'er done. As they say we deliver. Hehe. I'm not sure how many people see the post but if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask me anything. And without going out of opsec or any security issues I will try and answer. Things do change on a daily basis if they change someone please pass the word on to make it easier once your able to, God Bless and God Speed to You going thru Houston, Mark

P.S. Also Thanks Again for the compliment, and Thanks again for supporting and serving your country, Mark in Iraq

The only time they want a recent discharge is for the high speed low drag security jobs, of which KBR does not have.

i got out of the Marine Corps back in 96 and applied for KBR jan of 2004 and been with them ever since.

The fact that you owe back taxes is what is keeping you from getting hired. part of the requirement is no back taxes or child support.

Well I don't think KBR would have any IT jobs available for that much. The site managers don't get that much. You can probrobly look at beginning maybe $9,000-$12,000.00 . Other companies maybe $13,000-$?????. It just depends on if you qualify and who you want to work for. But on the other hand who has the majority of the contracts and who will probrobly keep them. My eyes would be on KBR for now. Get your foot in the door and go on from there. Show your qualifications get the job and you can move up in 6 months. For much more money. If I were you get the job and get yourself into making some serious tax-free money you can count on and see the world. Good Luck and let me know how you do, Mark Iraq

Thanks for serving but they do look at back taxes and child support. If you owe less than $5,000.00 you can probrobly get over. If you can get it down to that if you owe more, The dollar amount has got to be lower than 5,000. But good luck and Thanks again for serving, Mark

I've submitted my resume for more than 30 positions on kbrjobs.com over the past couple of weeks, and I understand it can take them from a couple of days to several months for them to respond. But my question is, if some of those jobs that are listed under "My Workbench" begin disappearing, does that mean a recruiter is or has looked at it? Thanks -- Reggie

Well on that question you have to remember KBR processes thru Houston We will say alot I cannot say a number for security reasons just alot . Every week. And some are taken up very fast. But also on that part people Demob or get fired or transfer to other positions within Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, U.A.E., ect., Those are other positions that are called internal job positions (IJP). Those are jobs available to people already working for KBR. So there will always be positions available just have to keep on putting in and your time will come. Good Luck by the way it was 130 degrees f. out today kinda cool for this time of year. Let me know how it goes, Mark

I have been applying to Kbr for the past couple of months, I finally got in touch with a recruiter that seem to be trying to help me. He told me that he was forwarding my resume to another recruiter, and that to expect her call, well its been a couple of weeks now, and i still haven't recieve the call. After speaking with him again, he called me back and told me that she was going to call the next day, which was yesterday, and still no call yet, can someone explain to me what is going on. I feel like i am getting the run around! If they aren't going to hire me why does he keep telling me things like i am already in the computer for that position, and that he cant believe that she hasn't called me already, but she never does, who ever she is!! do you have any advice Mark!

Blue Camel. I currently have 21.5 years in the Air Force and my enlistment is up the end of next year. I will have 10 years as a Contracting Officer (Purchasing Agent/Buyer) in the US Air Force along with 8 years of Supply experience. The other 4 were as a Postal Clerk. I am willing to go to Iraq or Afghanistan but would prefer Kuwait, UAE or Qatar. This is my 7th trip to the sandbox with 3 tours in Iraq(14 months total in Iraq). The other 3 besides Kuwait were 2 in Qatar and 1 in the UAE. What is the approx pay for a Purchasing Agent/Field Buyer in Kuwait/Qatar or UAE? How much is it in Iraq/Afghanistan? Finally, in Kuwait/Qatar/UAE would I be allowed to bring my wife?
Thanks

that is a tough question.

Senior Contract personnel in the Kuwait/Qatar/UAE are probably around $125,000 a year. keep in mind i am using number off the project here in Qatar.

As far as the wife goes, each company and contract is different. this project only set aside 95 spots for married status. Rent in Kuwait/Qatar/UAE is insane, an average apartment or villa will cost in the neighborhood of $4,000 a month. throw in food and vehicle allowance and it makes it very expensive for a company to have your family over here.

keep in mind also that if your family is with you, your time R/R will be less. They try and get more work out of you to justify all the extra cost you are adding to them. I work 8 weeks on 3 weeks off. Married status work 6 months 2 weeks off.

Just looking for a good estimate #? I have heard of another company CACI(I know personnel that work there) that pays well and trying to compare those #'s? I have heard of #'s of about $12.5K to $15K a month but I do not know of anyone currently working for KBR but I do know of a number of people working for CACI.

a field buyer in Iraq or Afghanistan is probably in the neighborhood of 9K to 10K a month. to be honest, unless you are at a Senior/Management level, the pay for KBR will rarely top 8K-10K a month depending mainly on location.

I have heard of CACI and yes their pay is a little higher than KBR.

If you can find someone that actually knows how the recruiting process works, let me know. i have been with KBR almost 5 years and still have no clue.

I can tell you there is an old saying KBR stands for

Blue Camel! Thanks for the info! I appreciate you basically confirming what I had already heard but it was a little lower then I thought! CACI is $15K-$20K a month (depending on qualifications)but the benefits and living conditions are not as good as KBR. I worked directly with some CACI contract specialists and know a number of personnel that went over there. They do though have a high turnover rate as a number of them cannot continue to "suck it up". I have been to Iraq 3 times so if I decide that route it would be easy for me! I am though looking at other Defense contractors and keeping my eyes and ears open.
Thanks

security jobs with KBR are hit and miss, they don't really have that many to begin with so position are few and far between. if you want security, you should really look into a company that is predominately security to begin with. DynaCorp would hire you in a second, but depending on where they place you the pay is nothing to brag about,

Well KBR security cannot even handle a weapon. If they do they get fired. They are just very well paid rent-a-cop. Basically. Now the upper-side in some positions you get a security clearance. But I would say starting salary is probrobly around 120-130k a year or more. So it's somewhat of an easy job. Just alot of paperwork. And don't get me wrong. In this country alot of stuff does happen we just don't see it. If we do those are the ones to go to and they will follow protocol. So they might not carry weapons but they do make some serious cash. So check it out. Yeah Dynacorp would hire you in a second, you would make a little less and have less chance of getting shot. But good luck let me know what happens, M

Thats good. He might want to check to see if he can take a his personal computer to Bagram, some bases do not allow certain things. I know that KBR just took away all cell phones in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait. So it hard to say what is next. But it's good to hear he is in Houston. Wish him luck and have fun in Houston. Mark

Hi,
I want to apply for food service work in Iraq but i will like some information. I know that there is danger because they are in the middle of a war, but I have been told that that besides that danger there is also the danger and getting kidnap because there is no security at all for the KBR workers. Also, this person showed me some reports of gang rape and sexual assault to KBR employees. I figure that I should get information from people that are actually there or have been there and after reading all the post by Mark I am convinced that he is very knowledgeable and I’m hoping he can shed some light.
Also, are the food servers in the middle of the war zone or in the base? I would appreciate any information. Thank you.
