Afternoon all,

I have a question for anyone. Hubby is going to call from his buddy's computer tomorrow with Skype. So I have a web cam that I went and bought, and am going to install Skype. This will be a first so didn't know how it worked. I am so excited I get to see him! And of course, his response is he can't wait to see me either but make sure Diesel(Our dog and the 2nd love of his life) is sitting next to me! At any rate, just trying to work out the bugs before he calls tomorrow, so any help will be appreciated!

Shot record not required, just bring it if you have it. You will get a bunch of shots before leaving Houston and they provide a shot record you will carry with you. You will also receive more shots once in country. My husband didn't have a shot record either and it's not a problem at all. :)

No you don't need all of them, but it is better to make sure that you are covered in case you get bumped to another airline. That way you will be able to still collect miles. I didn't sign hubby up for Southwest because I didn't think he would ever fly with them. He ended up getting bumped from his flight on Continental and flying through Southwest when he left for Houston. So better to be overprepared than under!!

My Hubby is there processing and he was told yesterday that they wont be receiving the 500 dollar. Im freaking out because he hardly has any money left and some was supposed to be sent back here to help out with things. I just don't know what we are going to do. The reason was because they were having to reimburse people for having to pay their luggage to get on the planes. Which I think is stupid, seems these days anyway someone can get that last drop of money from you they will. Airlines should not be allowed to charge for your bag that you are supposed be allowed to have. Is anyone elses hubby there now? He got there on Sunday. We have done this before but it doesnt make it any easier. It seems alot harder than it was the first time. I am going crazy without him =(. I know it gets easier but my heart is telling me that right now. Hope all is well with everyone.

My husband called and said that his urine wasn't clean and he said that they are sending him someplace else tomorrow to find out what is exactly in his system which is making it dirty. My husband doesn't do drugs and rarely drinks. Has anyone heard of them sending people to a specialized place to verify a UA?

If he was taking prescription drugs, get ready to get a letter from the doctor to verify it and fax it over.

Some over the counter drugs will show up on a drug screen but they will be able to distinguish what it is, that's probably why they are sending him somewhere else to get tested. Because the guys that were in Houston that tested dirty while my husband was there were immediately sent home, no second testing, just a plane ticket home. Maybe they see that it is something that can be explained but want to identify what it is???

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that prevents the development of parasites in the blood that cause malaria

Thanks for the info on the doxycycline. I thought that was strange. As for the substance I guess I will know tomorrow. I also asked him about the $500 and he said he had not heard of them not giving the $500. He even asked his roommate who didn't hear anything either. I will ask him again tomorrow at the end of the processing.

Thanks switch, I just wasn't quite sure. So far the only thing I have determined is that I sure am not photogenic with this camera lol! My Aunt and Uncle live in Nottingham, there's a possibility for an R&R. At any rate, I have installed this and cross my fingers it works this morning. Hope you all have a good day! Off to mail my packages to hubby this morning so he gets them before Christmas. Everyone keeps saying the first month and a half or so are the worst, geez I will be glad when I pass that! Thanks,

Morning everyone,

Hey travelingman! Good to hear from you in Houston.

Jdcs, yes I have been cooking his favorite dishes too. As far as I know he is going ahead with his plans to work overseas–until he tells me otherwise, we are going to go about as business as usual, with the plan for him to leave for Houston in January. He’s going to be spending this last mth in the office which is only about a 10 minute drive from our home as opposed to the 1 hr there and back commute he did have which will give us a couple more hrs a day together.

Alexi, I think it is highly unlikely that they are not doing the 500.00 on the plane–as it is a advance from their first pay check–so seems reasonable. But if you are concerned then email his recruiter to confirm. It’s a reasonable need to know , cause he will need to have/ and want some traveling money in his pocket, so I doubt his recruiter will fault you for your need to confirm with a email.

One thing I have noted is that there does always seem to be one rumor or another floating about. Might have something to do with the tediousness of the some times days on end of hurry up and wait waiting and processing.

Fervor, there are any number of reasons for a dirty UA that does not include any abuses, so to speak. If you know for a fact that he has not been on any prescription or OTC meds or ate anything that may have been the cause for, then it may have been a simple matter of human error. It does happen. The retest should clear matters up for him.

Beth did you get your web cam installed? I haven’t a clue myself how to do so, and or about but my daughters do, we have one on our PC and I am forever annoyed as they keep forgetting to turn the blooming thing off when they are done and nothing worse than getting a surprise shot of yourself–unprepared–think curlers and no makeup and still in Pjs when I pull up a chat box! Anyrate, if you have any questions about I will see if I can get answers for from my daughters.
I am curious as to how your pooch is going to respond when he sees your husband.

LMBO....that's what I thought when I saw it hooked up only mine was more, OMG that's so not photogenic! I am going to try it today and if it doesn't work switch has used it and can offer help! Hah...I think Chris will be more excited than the pooch! He and Diesel were attached at the hip so this has been a bit rough on both. He is mopey but when I put him on speaker he looks around for his "Dad". I hope it makes them both feel better! Should be less than an hour until I talk to him so cross your fingers, speaking of which I had better go apply some war paint so hubby isn't frightened! Cross your fingers and thanks all!

Hey everyone! I've been lurking for a few days and thought it was time to join in. My husband is doing the Houston thing on Jan. 5th and was hired as a carpenter and his work location is Sharana Afghanistan. We live in Houston so his recruiter is allowing him to commute daily instead of staying in the hotel. Good for me...more time together before he ships off!! :) We're both full of mixed emotions...excited, scared, unsure, sad, etc. I hope we're doing the right thing!

LOL. It’s a generation techno gap thing as far as I am concerned. My girls this way love it. Of course they know they are gonna be using it when they sit down so they have war paint on and not a hair out of place. I have finally managed to teach them to at least keep the camera lense turned to the wall when its not in use. Though the idea that it might come in handy to see my husband and so he can see the kids and grandbaby does hold lots of appeal! So we are checking into getting one for husbands laptop that we will send over later if he can get internet. Hope you have a great visit with your hubby.

Welcome to the forum. Here you will find lots of advise and help as you begin your journey. There have been a couple of people talking about Sharana so i guess its becoming a hotspot! I only know one person that is there right now that used to frequent the forum. His name was SPAWN. If you can flick back some you will probably find some of his posts and email address. As far as processing goes there are always people who are willing to give you answers. Its always scary at first until you find out more info, anyway let us know how we can help...

Okay, so it didn't work so well....so we are going to try again Friday, and I put war paint on and had my "hair did" lol! For now hearing the voice is enough, hope all your other half's are well and you get to talk to them. Must be he really is settling in because I now have a list of things to get and send him, including his tools! For those of you with spouses at Bagram, Chris said it is starting to get quite chilly in the mornings so send any cold weather items as quickly as you can, I know I'm his wife and not his Mama but I worry about him being cold, etc. Off to do errands, and all of those offers for help with this silly thing, I will take you up on it later!

Yea Traveling man called during his lunch break I asked him about that 500.00 traveling money and he said that he hasn't heard any talk about not getting it. That's money against your first check. Nothing is being giving to anyone. So I guess that clears that up. He said he meet a lot of nice people from the forum and they were hanging out together . That's funny I just emailed her the same thing!! I regret that we rushed through the last week we had and didn't spend one on one time (that wasn't over run with thoughts of things I had to do!)

So #1 most important thing to do before he leaves... spend time with him!!

I sent copies of all the documents they had us fill out, as well as internet copy for passport, medical and medication documents, dental, wabi, doctor clearance, names, birthdates if you are getting KBR medical insurance, he may also need SSN# for life insurance and medical paperwork. KBR has a why of loosing paperwork and then they have delay's. Wishing you luck and keep us posted.
