And to follow up on JHT post those of you going over that have not yet had to fill in sp85F may want to gather info needed because it seems as if eventually you will have to fill one in. And it is a lot harder to get the info needed gathered after you are already over there. For some it’s pretty easy document to fill in–if you have never traveled and you have lived and work in the same place for the last 7 yrs or so. But it can be a pain in the you know what for a lot of the trades men who have traveled for their work. Your mailing address “back home” isn’t necessarily considered your address if your head didn’t rest there at night. ( I think specifically if you stay as in work somewhere for 30 days or more–while you were say away on a job–they want these addresses too–so yes your addresses overseas will be required--cause that's where your head rested) Best of luck to everyone. |

It a public trust--& It will certainly weed some people out as others posted have suggested above--but this is more so related to criminal background and drug/ mental background issues. glad I am here to try and figure out Pauls because he can't remember nothing like that especially months when it happened |

Pablo W in North Salt Lake, Utah said: What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at KBR? Its not quite that easy--I mean they are looking for people with experience--so if you were looking for a like a kitchen positon you would have to have experience/ background in. I think they want at least 5 yrs. As far as dishes--washing of a lot of these positions are filled by TCNs. Also it very rare for like husband and wife teams to get together--in fact woman and men living quarters are separated. |

Pablo W in North Salt Lake, Utah said: What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at KBR? No. Not 100,000. 84,000 is the standard for a cook. She does not have to do the dishes either, that's normally done by third country nationals. She just has to prepair the meals. But, things are winding down. Back in the day you could submit your resume to KBR and get a call back the next day. Nowadays it can be quite hard. |

I am first trying to check out what the reality really is regarding salary, time we will be required to stay over there, and whether we will be able to stay together or see each other daily, weekly, monthly, or what.

1st I’m in Iraq and my position is a Sr. SCA and my salary wouldn’t be helpful to you as you are not looking to work in the same field as me. You are looking to work in food service if I read you post correctly. If so the starting point there is anywhere from $2,150.00 to $2,583.00 in base pay, basically if you’re coming in at the bottom of food service then you will be able to max out at about $84,000 like was stated before. The days of massive over time are long gone. You may be able to move up once you get over in theater but I wouldn’t count on it as we are in sustainment now and will be in draw down very soon. In Afghanistan if you take a job with KBR then you have a very good chance of being picked up with either Fluor or Dynacorp once the transition is over. 2nd I’ve worked in theater for over 5 years. 3rd nothing was all that different from what I expected this is a war zone and when I got here we lived in tents and had out houses and old water bottles for restrooms and bathed in bottled water and with baby wipes while eating MREs for a lot of our meals. Now my hooch is nicer than my college dorm room and my furniture is nicer than my first bachelor pad (the old 2X6 and cinder blocks for bed frame, entertainment center and cloths storage. With an old electrical spool for a table GOD those were the days LOL). If you go to Afghanistan it is fairly sparse there if you go Iraq then living conditions are better. 4th a for future hiring, KBR is going to keep hiring people to fill openings and use people from bases as they close to fill openings, you may get a job with KBR and be told you’re going to Afghanistan and end up in Iraq on a base that is scheduled to close 2 months after you land. Then when it closes KBR may have no need for anyone in your job field at the moment and you will be sent home. I’m not saying this will happen but it is possible so think long and hard before you pull the trigger on coming over here. I hope this helped |

so if a base you are working on closes and there is no work for you they send you home or to another base? |

Orabella in Florida 34 months ago |
Pablo, I think most working over there are maybe first motivated by the money, but I also get a sense most also like the work they do–though they may not always agree with the management etc. As others stated it is not always easy times–and unlike any camping trip you might imagine. This is why they like but do not require military background. Right now too a lot of the companies hiring since there is a transition going on–other companies coming in are also looking for those already with logcap and oversea experience. Now that’s not saying that someone with no military experience or former logcap/ oversea work experience can not get a foot in the door, but you got to be patient and you got to keep beating on the doors. Our son is 22 and in his second yr of schooling as an electrical apprentice and he wanting to go over there one day. He’s only got about 4 yrs trade experience at this point so his father and I are couching him to finish his training and continue his work here. Sadly he will more than likely get the opportunity in 2 or 3 yrs to do it then. But as others have mentioned not everyone is cut out for that kind of work. There are hardships and separation involved –I think if both of you and your wife are interesting in this kind of work then the first thing you need to be prepared for is not being able to see each other but every 3 up to 6 mths and then for only 10-14 days at a time. ( and this is hard on most relationships–but if you are in for the good of your family and the future of it can be done–and is being done and dealt with) Others will tell you too it not really a career but a job–though on occasion you will run into a few who have seemed to have actually made a career out of it. There are perks too. Tax free dollars. And generally an income that will allow for you to travel when you do have RR to see what you want to see and do what you want to do–and if you are wise with your money allow for you to save and invest wisely for yo |

LOL They don't like the way they do business but yet the same people are running everything. It won't exactly be the same people. Many of the Upper Management will not be given positions with either Fluor or Dyn. The general workers - Middle Management and down will more than likely be given positions. These are the real working force and they have a good reputation. So these guys are considered an asset. The Upper Management group that made the "Decisions" and who they hold responsible for the screw ups will not be wanted within the new set up.... |

He is making the same at home as he was as an HVAC Foreman at 116 hours per week. So I feel blessed that he can earn the same money and be at home. Fluor and Dyn both gave him offers based on future needs. When it came down to choosing we chose for him to stay home as long as things continue to work out. He is open to going back if things change. I really feel for the guys out there that are being sent home and have no jobs to return to. |
