Or if you just know how and when its done then that will help too..
thanks so much in advance. He flies tomorrow so its already going to be stressful enough..

They will give him cash when he boards the bus from the processing center to go to the airport. I guess he could stick some in an envelope and send it from the airport ? or maybe there is a western union at the airport ?

Have him get an envelope with your address and slip money in that
and mail at airport. Make sure he has some money though, because
he could get stranded in Dubai for a couple days and need some
for food. I don't know if they pay hotel there or not, so
he will need some cash

He should be flying out anytime. Usually 3-5 days after completion of training. But some have had to stay longer then that due to paperwork issues.

Hopefully he will hear something today or tomorrow.

O.K. The first packages went today. I bought a boxfrom moving and storage company. It cost $1.49 and measured 18x18x16. In it i put one fluffy comforter, two thick duvet covers and pillowcases, one mattress pad,one large thick towel, one set of flannel sheets, one set of cotton sheets and a pillow. It was heavy and i was worried all the way to the post office. It weighed 25 pounds and they charged me $37 to send it to Kirkuk Iraq. I was so happy. The reason im telling you all this is so that you can get a good idea what you can pack and how much it will cost. Hope it helps someone !!

I sent an electric blanket, make sure that he has warm gloves, coat, etc. I am sending him some soups, etc, stuff that he can microwave quickly and easily, he said the chow hall was pretty full. He is working out after he gets done with work so it is later for him and this will be easier.

What does he do? I mean is he HVAC, electrician etc.? I think it is likely he will stay there. From what he is telling me the group he is with originated from Houston so they kinda keep to themselves. From everything I have heard and read Bagram is a pretty good base, and they are luckier than alot with it being a rather large PX, and such. I sent him a bunch of magazines since he said those are in short supply and not much reading material. I bought a journal and about 3 weeks before he comes home I am going to send it and he can read it on the plane ride home. That way he can catch up with anything I may have missed telling him.

I will pass along anything else as I hear it and you can email me too at bethb05@gmail.com It is nice to be able to answer some questions rather than always ask them lol!

Hi saw that both of you guys husbands are in Bagram...mine is there too. He said there was freezing rain there today...my husband's dog is here with me and yes they are worse than children! McLovin (my husband named him...) has been acting out doing awful things...i think i would like to pack him up and send to afghanistan with him!

A letter will take about 7 days and packages can take from 10 to 21 days. Larger camps with airfield take the lesser time. Smaller camps get mail delivered by chopper and it is loaded up with space available. I have sent 4-5 packages and he will get them a couple at a time. Hopefully during Christmas they will process them quickly so or guys will get them before CHristmas.

I posted a piece on the mailing procedures under a separate topic. Read through it for tips on getting boxes, labels and custom forms. Postal service will mail them to your home at no charge.

Debbie

Hmmmm maybe we can get a discount if we ship them together! Diesel has been mopey since Chris left! Freezing rain, great...Guess I will also send him rain gear, I was more worried about the cold gear.

Deb, I sent his stuff Friday so I am curious as to how long this will take, I think Bagram is pretty big so maybe not as long as I anticipate.

Sandra, if he is a medic then he really is in good shape to stay at Bagram. Especially with all the new troops coming in!

Isn't it funny how we all have bonded somewhat, heck I tend to share more with you all then I do my family. I hope the guys do as well over there, it makes me feel a bit better to think that they have a support group over there too!

yeah, my husband actually has three pairs of boots there so that when they get wet he has time to let them air dry. We had originally bought a pair of steel toe "waterproof" boots to take down there but it wasn't long before he realized they weren't so waterproof so i sent him another pair. Then one of the guys that was going home had a pair of brand new boots he had never worn in my husbands size and he bought them....which was extrememly lucky because i have such a hard time finding shoes in his size! He also took a rain suit...and a friend of ours lives on a huge sail boat and he sent him the kind that wears on the boat too...those are my hubbies favorite.

JourneeJones-KBR, I am also trying to get my resume noticed. I was with KBR, in Afghanistan from July 04- Sept 05 as a ROWPU Operator and would like to return to either Iraq or Afghanistan. Unfortunately, I believe most or all the people I knew and worked with have since left. So I am back to square one, with no inside contacts, waiting to get a chance to go back again. My email is brian_berens@yahoo.com . If you are able to assist, I would be very thankful.
Even though I normally do not say anything on forums, I have found myself logging into this one daily. For the last several months I get my daily dose of waiting for a recruiter contact, and cheering for those that have, from this forum. I wish to the whole forum community (a little early), Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.

Hello. My Dad is Houston now and just waiting for orders to fly out. He called me last night and said that the Hilton is the main hotel for KBR since it is closest to the processing center. He said that even if you do not get placed there right off the bat, you will be eventually. ALso, he said that as long as you have your KBR badge, all amenities at the Hilton, computer, laundry, FedEx, is accesible. Makes things a little easier for everyone. My Dad has been in Houston since Nov 30 and my husband leaves this Sunday. Just waiting for his ticket to come through.

JourneeJones-

I have applied for several different positions with KBR, and I haven't heard anything in response. It seems KBR is currently hiring for skilled trades only. I have an undergrad degree, and several years of management experience. Any advice on how to get in contact with a recruiter, or any other helpful information. Thank you for all the help

First off, never assume. :)

Just because we haven't contacted you doesnt mean anything.
We have a million and a half resumes and less than 75 recruiters.
We do our best to get to all qualified candidates in a timely manner, and like I have posted previously, if you apply on a continous basis, meaning keep renewing your application, it gets moved to the front of the line. ALL appplications are held in our database by date. So if you applied 5-6 months ago, there a good chance, we didn't and won't get to you. We are going under the assumption the more current ones that apply still need and want to work for us! Basic Math!

What's your name so I can look you up in the system and see what you qualify for?

It is cold here in houston and we've had some snow flurries but it rarely sticks around here. I'm sure tonight we probably will have some sleet.

Hope your hubby gets to catch his plane.. I know they tend to get anxious and just ready to get on with it.. Jesse has only been in Houston since Sunday and he says he's ready to start working...he hates the sitting and waiting during processing..
