JourneeJones-KBR in Houston, Texas said: First off, never assume. :)

Just because we haven't contacted you doesnt mean anything.
We have a million and a half resumes and less than 75 recruiters.
We do our best to get to all qualified candidates in a timely manner, and like I have posted previously, if you apply on a continous basis, meaning keep renewing your application, it gets moved to the front of the line. ALL appplications are held in our database by date. So if you applied 5-6 months ago, there a good chance, we didn't and won't get to you. We are going under the assumption the more current ones that apply still need and want to work for us! Basic Math!

What's your name so I can look you up in the system and see what you qualify for?

Hello JourneeJones, I too have applied for several positions with KBR recently and would like to be considered as well. I think you may have several responses to your post because everyone is waiting on that phone call from the beloved KBR Recruiter. I think you bring great insight to the forum on what we need to do to get noticed, and since you're posting comments, I thought I'd ask for assistance. Please be so kind and look me up in the system as well.

Good morning everyone, just checking in.

Snow in Houston! Wow, it just doesn’t seem like December this yr to me. Its warm this way–as in humid. Hubby has only been living in yr round warmer weather for a yr or so now so I hope it doesn’t take as much for him to get adjusted to the cold weather again. I’m awfully glad we had the foresight to keep his cold weather gear.

Coni, know you and traveling man are in my thoughts. Do you know if his layover’s going to be in Amsterdam or London?

Leanne, we’ll all be here for you. I just do not think that there would be no way I could go along with this plan, if not for this board.

Jdcs wife, how are things going for your hubby? He just left Sunday, right? Is the processing moving along ok? They do the physical in the first few days, correct?

Debbie are you back in regular contact with your hubby? Did he enjoy his vacation?

Switch has your husband settled into his camp? Hope the packages you sent get there in a timely manner.

Hubby is doing great, enjoyed his short R&R in Turkey. Planning his next triphome at the end of February. When he arrived back at camp all his stuff from other camp had finally showed up, only took 7 months, he said it was like Christmas.

Hope you are doing well and we will all be here for everybody.

They have to get the electricity going to it first and needless to say it's not priority. He said they are short handed on electricians. He started out at 12/7's and quickly moved into 14/7's. He said the days go by fast, but he is still tired. I to am trying to keep busy. I work at the local schools as a Campus Supervisor which is great because it puts a little cash in my pocket without a lot of hours. KOko- Jesse is doing okay but he hates the waiting..He had paperwork and tax info on Monday.. Medical Tuesday which was fine.. he says that a lot of people are worried about the blood pressure part of it.. his arms were sore because of the shots.. that was a short day and he was at the hotel by 2pm .. other days he's not back til 6 or 7pm...yesterday was some sort of briefing on terrorist (think thats what he said) and today he's got safety and more document stuff...he's supposed to be meeting his recruiter today... He's almost done which he's happy about...I think tomorrow and Sat. is some type of first aid, CPR training and then just wait to head on over there...

He's at the Comfort Inn, he's met a few guys and union brothers but I wish he would have gotten the chance to meet some of the hubby's from this forum...if if he was at the Hilton he could have met Travelingman...

Guys are different.. if it was me I would be walking around with a sign that said... "Looking for my indeed.com/KBR family" :)

This week's been okay for me since I was used to this when he was working up in Vegas.. but he would come home every Friday afternoon.. I might have a rough weekend... Wirenutts is coming over and I will be meeting her and her kids... we are having a candy making party...

[Hey everyone I have not been here for a bit, but again that old saying if anything can go wrong it has this week...We went shopping to get some items for Gary to take and when we returned home both the computers had crashed!... Well you can bet I have a new one now because I missed this forum terribly since it has been my lifeline for not only support, but for what I need to do to get Gary ready...It still does not seem real that he is leaving Sunday...I am not finding time to have all of this sink in with the rush of getting everything done, and still working...His blood pressure is registering just fine, but I am sure if we were to take mine it would register off the charts lol...I have decided to close my business for this week so I can spend every last minute with him until he leaves on Sunday just like I have read on this forum...The information I have gathered from this forum has been the most valuable and to all who post on it I give you my sincere thanks...You all have made this transition easier for me, and for this I am truly humbled...I am sure on Sunday I will sit down and have my meltsown after he is gone, but I know this is something he not only wants to do, but is looking forward to doing, so why he is here I will be strong and supportive, and when he leaves the dog's and I will climb in my bed and have some loving time and some sad time, and then we will regroup and keep on keeping on...Today I am giving Gary a "Till We See You Soon" Surprise Party for his business associates and friends to come and say their farewells, and I think it will be a great time if i can keep it together without crying so say a prayer for me lol...I wish all of you a Most Joyous Holiday Season, and if anyone want's to take any of their R and R in Myrtle Beach please e-mail me, I am sure I can help with great accomodations and prices...Both of our businesses are here, and we do have a few good connections...Thanks to you all and Happy Holiday's! ~ Debs~

He will probably call while at Baghdad. Unless you can get a phone card in Dubai it is hard to call from there. He is probably in route from Dubai to Baghdad today. Maybe you will hear from him today, unless the exhaustion has set in and he will need to sleep for awhile. They are 8 hours ahead of us in Baghdad. Hope you hear from him soon.

I'm am glad to help. What you said about being so busy getting things ready to don't have much time to think about the fact that he will be gone. The hardest part will be the first month until you get a routine down for phone calls or webcam. After that stay positive and take the time to plan your R&R. Time goes by pretty fast after the first month and then you will be planning your connection for R&R. You will look forward to that but remeber to spend one on one time somewhere without children and family. We usually have him fly into Dallas or Houston and I will make reservations for the first two days. He will have time to catch up on sleep and the two of you will be able to connect and talk without all the distractions at home. Although they miss them at home there will be time for that.

Good luck and keep in touch beacuse we are here fot each other.

LMAO, I love that sign idea! Keep staying positive as Deb says, and pretty soon you will be able to start your countdown for your R&R. We are finally picking the dates for his and I did what Debbie suggested and looked at a hotel with a jacuzzi, room service, the whole 9. Although I am pretty sure there won't be a whole lot of anything going on until he catches up with his sleep! Enjoy the candymaking, I am glad that you and wirenutts wife are close enough that you can get together and be cheerleaders for each other.

Sandra, I mailed Chris's packages last Friday and he got them today, so it doesn't look to be too bad. The mail guy picked up the package and told Chris a blanket doesn't weigh 30 lbs. I thought that was too funny!

Debs, it is okay to cry, and I am sure you will shed some more, but that's okay! Hug him and kiss him, and know that he is making a better life for you. And like Deb said, we are all here. Each of you has been my lifeline! We are scheduled for 7 inches of snow with icing so I am off to the grocery store, have a good day all! I swear I am moving back down south after the holidays!

We did basic city and country searches to find somewehere that would be of interest to us. We went to Barcelona in early March was there off season and we found a suite on the Mediterrean Sea for less then $500.00 for 7 nights. Had small kitchen, living room area and bedroom. We stayed in Stiges which is about 25 miles from Barcelona. City can be noisy, very quite in Stiges. 2 mile long boardwalk on the sea, lots of small shops, bars and restraunts. Spain has great transportation, no need to rent car. Caught bus outside hotel that took us to train station, caught train to Barcelona. Outside train depot you will find taxis, hop on and hop off buses, and city buses. We chose the hop on and hop off buses they where easier to figure out bus lines. Lots of old city to see, olympic area, old churches, aquirums, etc.

Once you narrow down location then go to expedia or other sites and check ticket prices. I found a round trip ticket from Killen, Texas to Barcelona for $507.00. Then you can use expedia, cheaprooms, etc. to locate the best hotel accomadations.

Hope this helps. We start planning next trip as soon as he returns back into country. That keeps us focus on trip instead of the separation.

Normally they receive their CAC card after all processing done and they will receive notice of flight time at nightly check ins. They also usually end up at the Marriott before leaving.

Debbie

PS Delta and Contential are the usual airlines but tickets may not have been purchased until right before flight time.

Coni, I am sure he is just on his way and he will contact you asap. My hubby is really bad about calling me-- has to be the other way around me calling him usually, but he has been surprising me with calls of late, to as he says it, practice.

Debs, hope the party goes off well for you and hubby.

Cathey that’s a great idea–checking for reservations. I am sure they have to make the reservations–to make sure they can get them before they let them know.

Yes, we were surprised. But we were also told that sometimes the recruiters for KBR and other companies look at the resumes filed on the company site–even when they haven’t applied as yet for a position. I think they just key in like electrician in a search and it pulls the resumes as yet submitted up for them. We’d uploaded his resume Wednesday evening as we knew–as in were pretty sure this was what he wanted to do. We were actually just waiting for the weekend to submit it.

That's what happened with my hubby.. his resume was posted on a Monday on Careerbuilder and Monster and he got a call the next day...
