ATL Bound, again! in Barrington, New Jersey

madmac154 in bayfield, Colorado said: I'm headed to Greenville 2/13. Can anyone tell me what we do there for 10 days. Is it training/admin stuff or is there more medical, background, testing etc. I haven't been able to get much info as the recruiters are so busy they don't have time to really talk much. My recruiter told me that since my clearance and everything are already done I won't get stuck there but I've been hearing stories of people spending months there. Any info would be appreciated.

Can i get your recruiters name and number?

Sorry, they asked me to not give those out. They said to refer folks to the website. Wish I could because I know how hard this is.

I was a direct requisition from in theater. I got my first call at Thanksgiving, formal offer at Christmas, everything completed this week. Had to wait for a secret clearance and that finished last week. Apparently they slowed things way down during that period but it sounds like it's picking up.

New forum starting up for logcap 4 info. for Fluor if your interested.
Most of us know the hiring process for kbr but with fluor it is completly different you process at home, you have testing online which has to be done with in 48 hrs. and then you have your SF85 which has to be done online through a secure website and then has to be error free. So if you would like to help each other out here's the forum.
www.indeed.com/forum/cmp/Fluor-Corp..html

Thanks sniper.

Unless it changed since my husband went through this summer, the time in Greenville for processing was spent doing paperwork--yes even though he did paperwork before he left for-- classes, tests and training on the laptop and programs they use.

The tests and training on the laptop and programs....is that job specific, for IT people only, or is that for everyone?

Its not just for IT people. You will need to learn how to do your time-sheets and expense reports via laptop, as well are order material/ supplies per your position. And then fill in and file the endless reports that are required. Someone feel free to correct me, but I am laboring under the belief that everyone is issued a company laptop that’s going through Greenville.

Oh sorry , forgot to answer part of your question. Yes, tests are job specific. At least for the trades there is NCCER testing. They do give you study material, but little time to study because your schedule will be full prior to. They do keep you busy, at least through the process of processing-7-10 days.

I don't know my husband is looking at a offer for dispatcher. Sad he was paid as a medic for KBR, but Fluor hired foreigners for doctors and he lost that job.

You said that the trades have to take the NCCER testing...is that for all trades? Someone just told me that power generation people dont take the NCCER testing. Is this true? Just wondeing on that because my husband is heading to Greenville with me and he will be in Power Generation. Thanks!

Sorry I can not say for certain about power generation NCCER testing. I know when my hubby went through they had them for electricians, Hvac and plumbers that were going through when he did--and there may very well have been others but hubby--a master electrician-- was hanging with the trades guys that went through processing with him. Best of luck to both you and your husband.

I believe if he contacts his Supervisor and his HR personal, and he lets them know what is going on he should be fine. Also, he might have to email them his new itinary if he has one. Not sure if things have changed, but that is what I had to do back in 2006.
Hope this helps.

Little sister, he is going by way of the east coast, right? Many of those airports are closed due to the snowmageddon. I think that would fall under a “Act of God” and be excused.

make sure you get a note from the Airline explaining what happened as well. They should rebook him due to the weather delay. As long as he has informed his HR Travel and Supervisor there should not be any issues. Ensure he has those documents from the airline stating the issued they can print him a note of delay. I had one last year and they were glad to do it. Good Luck

Hey was up Ksniper777, What do you know about the Mail Clerk position. Im going to process for that but i need some insight on it and on actual living and the way it is. Cause I can read certain things but its always better to hear from someone first hand and that might be over there doing it. How would the work place look at and is there only one mail place or do they have it at every single base and stuff.

Well sir they do work very hard and sometimes the warehouse where the process the mail are not heated nor airconditioned. Some bases are nice and some are crappy. you may live in a dry container or a wet one (shower and toliet) or a Tent. The food could be at a dining facility or you could be eating MRE's. They have mail sorting areas are normally at the large bases but some smaller bases will have JMMT(Mail Mission)they call it throwing a truck and it can be very hard and tedious work. If it is your first time overseas they do have Indirect fire(Mortars and Rockets) you cannot be complencent ever. Do not handle any weapons even if the soliders say it is ok to do so. You can be fired for doing so. If you have any other questions please just ask.

Good info. Is there a way that I can look at how the bases look like online or something. Just curious! Do the Mortars fall very often? Do time seem to fly like it does here in the U.S. or it seems like your in slow motion. What position have you been doing? Probaby been through more than a couple huh. Lol. I apologize for asking my travel-related question on this board. I know it's for specific job-related concerns.
However, I would like to thak Ms. KoKo Wilson and Ksniper777 for responding. Your replies were very helpful. My brother is delayed again in Chicago, trying to fly into DC..and on to Dubai. Both flights out of OH were canceled. But now we both know how to report these delays and I'm feeling less stressed. Thank you for taking time to help.

they do have some websites you can look at the bases not alot of photos if you check facebook and type the base name you can find out some stuff about the places. Mortars or Rockets can fall at ANYTIME there are no set schedules. Depends on how you look at working overseas you either sit in your tent or living space and stare at the walls and hate life or try to get out and meet folks. Some bases have MWR centers where you can learn to line dance, work out etc. Some bases have better and some none at all. It is not like working in the states, if you decide to work over here forget about the states. The work is hard and you have to put up with BS sometimes but it is totally up to you of what you make of it. Time fly or it can drag and really have a suckass time of it. So if you are going to apply and work set you goals and once you reach them head home. This is not a walk in the park. Think long and hard before you make a decision. You can do two things, get hired come over here and quit after a week because it is not like the states and make yourself non rehireable or come over and complete your commitment and move on forward in life. KBR ask you to complete your year, adhere to the rules and regs that's it. Real Simple, i am based at Tallil which is in Southern Iraq. I work in the Safety Department, been doing the same job and assisting other departments for over 10 years. Remember V are the one who will make it or break it for yourself.

heather88 in Colorado Springs, Colorado said: Good Morning all,

Does anyone have any information on how to get in contact with a recrutiter? I have just been granted my secret clearance in Januarary and I am looking to get over seas with KBR. I have previous experience with Log Coordinator and MWR. I have worked in Iraq and Qatar. Also, I have applied for posistions that I am qualified for, on all websites.. Justlooking to better my life, as I am sure all of you are. I wish everyone the best of luck on pursuing this goal. If anyone has any info please email me at Heather88m@yahoo.com. Thank you..

With having that clearance, I wouldn't hold out for just KBR. You have a bar of gold in your pocket right now. Make sure you have that at the top or make it stand out on your resume. Contact any contractor. I wish I had mine, but I have no sponser for it.

V,
K is right. You make it what it is over here. It is not hard to follow the rules and do your job. I have been to several places over here and each one has its own plusses and minuses. I have been through many steel rain showers in 6 years. I am currently up in Northern Iraq and have spent most of my time up here. Because of my job, my first year flew by. I was working 14-16 hours every day. I also wore many different hats during the day. The biggest thing that I don't see people doing anymore is having fun. If you aren't having fun, what's the point? Enjoy yourself, kick back after 12 hours, watch TV or movies, hit the MWR. do what ever. I have about 5 1/2 years in Iraq. If you know where to look, some web sites can give you a general look of the camp.
