JDC called like around midnight.. he was in Baghdad.. I missed his first call ..our little one really gave me the run around and I was beat so didt hear my phone ring until the 2nd call.. He sounds exhausted..but he wont tell me that...he said he felt rested and relaxed.. (yeah right!) Its funny, they think we dont know them... I know he hasnt gotten much sleep everytime he would say something he would have to pause and think about what he was saying.. it was funny! I was just glad that he made it alright.. they were going to get something to eat and rest and then he will beging the week of training that has been mentioned here on the forum.. So I guess he's at Victory and then who knows from there.. Jazmin and I are doing good.. Im just glad he's done with the flying... This will be hard on all of us.. I think he will adjust well.. he was in the Navy and he loved the adventure and the traveling ...he had been stationed in an Island in Italy.. we are considering that as our last R&R...so I know he will love the adventure that will come with this Journey... Mechanicva- thats for the 1800 info... i will look into that.. it makes sense.. Thank you to all.. I will keep you posted....Is mine the only one from the forum right now that arrived in Iraq this week? |

Also Ladies Alan told me that the Large green duffel bag wasn't a good idea, that anyone going needs the one that zips-up. He had to dump everything out and he lost his wallet there I called the Houston hotel, not there. Thank God only Photos and some papers and cards in it. I wonder if I can contact the Airport Security in Baghdad. Any ideas Ladies? |

Debbie and Switch... How many minutes would you say you are using in phone calls?? Debbie, I know you use more because your hubby work nights.....I just wanted to get an idea... Im getting info from several companies where you can get 1800 numbers.. some are $40 and you can get 1000+ minutes plus they come with all types of features.. you do not need an extra phone.. the call will get directed to whatever phone you want.. and you can change where you want the calls forwarded..so I can have the 1800 # go to my cell while Im at work or home in the evening... I'll get the info and pass it on... |

What line of work is he doing there? It snowed there yesterday. The only thing he doesn't care for is the shower situation. You have to always wait. He asked me to send him wipes because sometimes he's so tired he'd rather just wipe down. I just sent him an electric blanket and some thermals. Hope your husband has a smooth transition. Paula |

If he calls everyday and talks for 15 minutes, that is amount allowed if others are waiting for phone, you would need 450 minutes. So the 1000 should be plenty as some calls many last longer then 15 minutes. Debbie |

I'm a truck driver in Central NY. I've been applying for every heavy truck driving job that came up for Iraq and Afganistan since March of 2008. I received an email from a "researcher" at KBR a couple days ago asking if I was still interested in a driving position and to update my availability date? I replied yes and inquired if I was being considered for a position, I also updated my availability date to 01/01/09 via the help desk personel. The "researcher" said my resume was being considered and if I met the minimum qualifications I would be contacted in the next two weeks. To JourneeJones-KBR, what are the "minimum" qualifications for a heavy truck driver? I have over 11 years and 1 million plus miles under my belt. I would really love the opportunity to go to work for KBR, can you shed any light for me? Thanks, |

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am trying to obtain a position with KBR. I have already been contacted by a recruiter via e-mail, and my phone interview is tomorrow. I am very certain that with my experience I will be able to get a position. However, I do have a few questions that I hope someone can answer for me. This is mainly in regards to compensation etc. It is my understanding that KBR employees are now haveing FICA withdrawn from the salaries on a monthly basis, is this correct? Also, once an employee is overseas working, does the company take any additional money from their salaries for expenses such as living quarters, food, etc.??? I heard this "rumor" while I was serving in Iraq. Also, how does the vacation/leave time work. As soon as you get there, 4 months later you get to take 2 weeks? Or do you have to work for at least 1 year before you accrue any leave time? Any additional information will be helpful, thanks. |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 42 months ago |
KBR is required to withhold social security and medicaid. The only other deductions would be for cash draws you receive, to include the $500.00 you will receive upon boarding your flight out of Houston. You will be provided meals, housing, etc at no charge. You are able to take up to 15 days every 120 days in country. But you will only be paid for 10 of the those days. They also deduct the cost of airfare for R&R the month before and they they will re imburse up to $860.00 of that ticket after to return back into country. You will also not receive your R&R pay until after you return. Debbie |

Thanks, that's helpful information. So, assuming I am hired, I complete the background check, dental, etc. When I am getting ready to go to Houston for processing will it be my responsibility to pay for my own travel to Houston, or will they fly me there, put me up in a hotel, etc? Will meals, and any other expenses be taken care of by them while I'm processing or will I need to have funds for that as well while I'm there? I was a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the Army. I served for 5 years. Afterward, I went into the civilian sector working at the Miami International Airport, I managed a company whom refueled and serviced the aircraft. With this experience, what job can I expect (entry-level, supervisory) and how much can I expect for a starting salary? |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 42 months ago |
KBR will provide you with an airline ticket and they will provide hotel room, transportation, and three meals a day while in training. They will give you an advance of $500.00 when you leave Houston. You will have to ask recruiter what your base pay is. They are different for all jobs. I can explain the uplift pay after I know the base. Debbie |

Debbie, i was told Al-asad,is uplift higher when you are stationed at bases that are more in the danger zone? |

Morning everyone, Jdcs wife, please keep us posted on the service/ cards. This sounds like something we would be interested in here. We just got a new contract a couple of mths ago with t-mobile, but we already have 5 lines/ cells on the package so I need to get a new package instead of just add a line/ phone. I was gonna check and see if I could maybe get my number changed. But I tentatively talked to our service representative and he said the better route to go would be international phone cards. So now I want to send him with phone cards–but need to decide which was are the best–have best chance of working. Thanks. Sandra that is just ridiculous! You should consider reporting them to the better business. |

Uplifts are 75% in Iraq and Afghanistan for everyone. Those uplifts are only for the first 40 hours worked each week. The other 48 hours are straight pay. Debbie |

The best phone card I have found is the Sprint Prepaid Phone Card. It gives you 750 domestic minutes for $26.25. These cards can be reloaded as you use it up. An International card is a waste of money because in Dubai you must use their phone cards that are sold at hotel desk. All phone in Iraq and Afghanistan are Houston phone numbers so call are state to state. I live in Texas so I was able to change one of our cell phones to a Houston number so he calls the cell and we don't require long distance or phpne cards. Debbie |

My question is that since I was an NCO, and I have the civilian management experience, will I be able to go directly into a supervisory position? Either way, I am certain that I can get on with KBR. Like I said, my phone interview is today. |

If your husband left yesterday you could possibly hear from him today. But it could be after he gets to Baghdad or into Afghanistan. He won't be in Dubai but 1 day they get them out pretty quick. Be patient he will call at the first point he can get a phone. He wants to hear your voice also and to usure you that all is good. Debbie |

I would confirm that they will issue you a Houston number, prefixes are 713 and 281, before signing a contract. I did not have a problem with changing mine but some are saying they can't in other states. Good Luck Debbie |

You can get Flat Rate boxes at the post office. There are four different sizes. You can also go to USPS.com and order cases of these boxes for future use and they will deliver to your home. You will also need a custom form for each box you pack listing all items in box. These can also be gotten from the USPS site. Pack your box or boxes and complete custom form for each and seal them up. Leave custom form loose on the top of each box and you will be ready to take to post office. Postage is $9.95 for the three smaller boxes and $10.95 for the large box. None of them are very large. First box may have to be in a store bought box for larger items. Postage will be based on size of box and weight. Make sure you have the address to him as follows: Full name
Hope this helps. Debbie |

Hey there.. Good morning... I stayed home from work today.. little Jazmin had a fever, cough and cold last night..so we both didnt sleep... She's sleeping away now..:) My hubby is at LIberty... I hear from him more often than I thought..Iget a call one in the evening and one in the morning.. (he's gonna end up being my alarm)... He's doing well.. he's rested and no longer jet-lagged.. he was supposed to start his first day of training yesterday but they were told that the wont have their first class/session until Sunday.. Im wondering if their waiting for the rest of the guys to catch up from Houston before Christmas.. :) So right now he and the guys are just exploring the base... he confired the food is great, he's been to the PX many times and he's going to buys some tennis shoes so that he can go hit the gym... (he didnt want to pack his)... So this morning (his afternoon) him and the guys had just come back from the place where they all hang out(forgot what its called-something like MBR-Im probably wrong).. I guess its some type of hang out place.. they were playing foosball and airhockey and stuff like that..
Sorry about all the fuss I created about the phones.. I purchased 2 $5 calling cards for jess before he left...and he said when he used them and it tells him his balance it says that he has 15hrs left ....he has called me and his mom for the last 2 days with one card , hi hasnt touched the 2nd one... each time we've spoken about 15-30 minutes...So if these cards that I got have the balance that they say they do then Im going to forget about the cell thing... AT&T said the same thing Ko-Ko, we have to change ALL our numbers to HOuston, But I still cant because I dont have a HOuston address... I was even looking into the 1800 numbers which sounded better but if these calling cards that he has work like they do then Im just sticking to those... |
|
jdcs wife in riverside, California 42 months ago |
I will get you the name of the cards when I get into my car.. I left them inthere.. its something 'Global'... I didnt think they would work this well.. I got them at a little Mexican liquor store by my house.. If $5 can get us this much time then At&t can keep their plans... I will keep you guys posted as to how long these cards last... |

Hello all, well I had my interview today...and a lot of my questions were answered. However, I have a few more that I'd like to get your opinion on. I have heard that taxes are withdrawn from employees pay checks. However, I was told by the recruiter that you have a choice as to whether you want taxes to be withdrawn, and also if you do choose to have taxes withdrawn you will simply file for a return? Can anyone elaborate on this further? |
|
jdcs wife in riverside, California 42 months ago |
i think most of us chose not to have taxes witheld and we'll just set aside some money for the portion that we do have to pay taxes on... at least thats what we are doing.. We are do tight now that we cant have taxes withheld.. we need every last penny to catch up... |

Hey Everyone I hope this find's everyone well...It has been hard for me since Gary left for Houston on Sunday...I uphill battle with emotions...He had his medical yesterday...He called me in the afternoon to tell me his urine came back dirty...I was in disbelief, and he was a wreck...He was allowed to continue and had to call a number this morning for the results of another test they had sent off...I felt bad for him truly bacuse I know he is not a drug user, so there had to be an explaination...He did not sleep well with worry...Well it came back negative, it apparently had something to do with his blood pressure meds...I was kinda convinced he would be home and not pass the medical lol...I do not know why I thought that, he is not in bad shape lol...I will not say that for a fleeing moment I was not mad he failed the test, I would deal with him and that when he GOT HOME, but at least he was coming home...SO now I am back to the stage of he is really going...The Dog is pitiful and sad, and I am trying to do his business and mine and I really just want to lay down and have about an hour cry HA! To all who have supported me so far in this journey I thank you and I am truly humbled by the support...Debbie I thank you for all the info...His paperwork was on the money thanks to you...To all I appreciate you and have a wonderful evening...I say we have a KBR Forum getaway for all wives and girlfriends and kids in Myrtle Beach !!!!!!! ~ Debs~ |
