graefboy in lodi, California said: Any help would be cool I got an offer from flour last week and today I got an offer from kbr. kbr offered less money and less time off but they paid most of the travel. If anyone has work for these companys let me know which you felt better with as far as moral and over all work load and exp. Thank you in advance for the help. It comes out to a 5,000 dollar difference with the math I did for 1 year but the whole dollar amount was 30,000 dollars overall any ideas would be cool.

Your information is skewed. KBR gives you a travel reimbursement that might be enough to go to Europe if you want to, I never was able to buy a ticket to the US for what they gave you. Fluor gives you a travel allowance that will almost buy a business class ticket to anywhere in the US, it doesn't matter where you go or how much you spend as long as leave country you get that amount.

they pay around $3700 when you return ,plus uplift on your R&R and not to forget unlike KBR that pays you for eight hours ,Fluor pays 12 hours pay while you travel to Dubai with per diem of about $170 per day.You arrive back in Dubai and you are paid 12 hours a day until you fly back.

some people take their R&R in Dubai I think you get two travel days and they take 3 days for a week and still collect the R&R money ....

Your close Hapkiman, a lot closer to the right information than greefboy. One more thing, they pay uplift on paid time off money while you are on R&R.

The numbers that were offered by kbr totaled 85,000 fedral tax free out of country 4 months 10 days paid off they paid any where from 6 hundred-1000 dollars travel expense paid for hotel and food untill you can get back to work. Fluor was at 115,000 was not offering money for travel what so ever so after taxes and travel average ticket back to califorina was 1600 the amount turns out to be the about 5000 difference so as I was asking which company has a better work manner and overall company polices that are helpful for the employee Thanks ahead of time.

The only way your going to get any money tax free is if your out of the US for 330 days in a year. Then you can get 91,000 tax free, anything above the 91,000 is subject to tax. Unless the laws have changed.

Uplift is your hazardous duty and foreign service pay. It is paid on the first 40 hours of every week. Depends on the contractor, but ranges between 70-80% for Iraq and Afghanistan.

You sound like you will be a fine inbred plumber and can make your measly $100,000 working for KBR. You will fit in well with the smelly TCN's eating fish heads and wiping your butt with water bottles. Submit your application immediately!

Thanks for you help. Bye the way have i done something to offend you internat?

You will be paid once a month.
The last day of the pay period is the last
Saturday of the month.
Pay day is the next Friday.
Back in the day they use to give you an
advance when you left Houston. I do not
know now or how much now.

Does anyone have a guess as to how far I am from being wheels up? Last I heard OpM had all my paper work and one of my refs.got a survey twice. I called the office of excellence and they gave me the name, number and e-mail address of the person who asked for my info to be processed. I have not called or e-mailed that person to avoid jinxing my chances.
but the squeaky wheel gets the grease right?

I haven't heard of them, but there is a lot of contractors here that I haven't heard of before. Just be careful and do some research, with the government trying to use more and more local contractors there is fly by nights poping up all the time.

internat in Dallas, Texas said: Internat is just a name i picked...has no meaning. KBR and Fluor are both bad companies that hire the dumbest of people. With Fluor you might get a sweet job with TCN's cleaning air conditioners and testing fire alarms all day. With KBR you may end up working with people with down syndrome.

This really makes sense!I know a lot of people from my country that got a logcap job at both Fluor/KBR. The most of them are people with lack of basic knowledge in English, usually with fake working experience and (believe it or not)education-primary school.
In the opposite of these people, there're are educated people that're applying for jobs under their qualifications and can't get a job. Take me for example, I have a bachelor degree in Law, certificate for successfully passed 8 years of English course, some other certificates, working experience as attorney assistant(my recent)and receptionist a job that I had while I was on the university. I applied for billeting technician (I wasn't contacted at all), my friend also applied and she got the job, even that her English is very very bad, she has a high school as her highest education.
It's very pity for such qualified people that exist on these forums and can't get the job. This is really frustrated and I really can't understand this policies of the both companies!

After reading all these comments about Flour/KBR and the type of people they employ it makes me wonder could it really be like that. Personally i think its jealously on most peoples part. I for one have been trying to get on board with these companies since January as a Carpenter. Even though I have 20 years experience and speak perfect

Anyone out there that can steer me in the right direction would be sooooo greatly appreciated . I am a carpenter with 20 years experience and can turn my hand to most things.I have been self employed for last 6 years and a total workaholic !!!! Recession has just really hit us here and struggling for work. More than happy to do anything, as I just want to feed the family. Have been sitting for hours applying for jobs with every contractor I can find and getting no response. I know if I could land one of these Flour/KBR jobs it would be a miracle but you have to keep to hope to keep going!!!!!

I have applied to over one hundred jobs with KBR, however, I haven't heard back from them yet. In fact, I've been waiting for months.

I have graduated from Tulane University.
I was selected for the competitive Carnegie Mellon University - Public Policy and International Affairs Fellowship.
I was published twice on U.S. Foreign Policy.
I served for two years with a U.S. Army Airborne Infantry unit.

In the end, I really hope to hear back from KBR. I certainly look forward to the day I get sent to Houston, and subsequently, Afghanistan or Iraq.

I hate to be the guy that tells you this but I applied for over 2 years to all the companies for overseas work. Just recently I put my contractors license number on my c/v Kbr called the next day and flour called me with in 2 days. The recruiters look for certain things change up your resume add a little take some away. You just have to be strong willed and wait. Ask anyone here most have waited a while .

You are aware that unless KBR gets awarded a DOS contract they will be pretty much done in Iraq in just a few short months. They have virtually no presence in Afghanistan except a very small contract that was awarded to their UK division. You may want to broaden your search to other employers, unless you are just stuck on working for them.

I am applying to other companies as well, however, I have an eye for KBR. I met several talented men in Afghanistan that braved it out on a small combat outpost while we were getting rocketed by the Taliban. Indeed, the men from KBR are made of sterner stuff.

Even if we get it (DoS)the proposal mandates that most hires have to be HN personnel and the expats signed on will have to be "cleared" personnel. Behind the doors, most of those people have already been identified. Some are saying DynCorp has the inside track but who really knows at this moment.

From past experience I can say DOS doesn't pay much. Many DOS projects go to PA&E
