hey journee jones, i have a question for you. i applied for all sorts of kbr jobs that where in iraq and afghanistan (like 70 maybe more) and i have not got a response at all and i applied starting like 4-5 months ago. i think that i am qualified enough. i served in the army for four years (active duty), three of those in fort sill, ok and the last year in korea. i have a honorable discharge, clean drivers license and background check. i have a bachelor's degree in management and an associates degree in business. i have no family to weigh me down also. am i not qualified enough or something? i did notice that the kbr website does not have half the jobs it did 5-6 months ago. is there a hiring freeze? sorry for all the questions but i would just like some insight. thanks. |

Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas said: Average pay for a plumber is $6800.00 for 4 week cycle and $8304.00 for a 5 week cycle. Foreman make about $2000.00 more each month but you will probably start out as plumber and have to apply for foreman positions as they become available. My hubby is a master plumber also been there 18 months. He says no way to foreman job for him, to much computer stuff and lots of butt chewing for things out of your control. hey deb you seem to have some knowlege in this forum,do you have any info on truck drivers pay? |

Anyone know of anybody that is a heavy equipment mechanic in iraq? |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 41 months ago |
Not sure of the base pay for truck driver's except that it is around 3000.00 base which would work out to about $8000.00 on a 4 week and around 9500.00 on a five week. My hubby is a plumber and I only know the base salaries for the skilled trades. Maybe someone else on this forum is a truck driver that can give you the exact amount. Debbie |

KBR dude in Charlotte, North Carolina said: Well, let's see where to begin. I am currently stationed at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan and will be moving to Bagram soon. The accomodations in Afghanistan are rustic at best. You get 44lbs of luggage so pack light. The things I should have brought are a fitted twin sheet, pillow and blanket. When you first arrive in Afghanistan you will do new hire orientation at either Kandahar or Bagram. All they issue you for sleeping is a sleeping bag and you stay in a transient tent. Their ARE frequent rocket attacks here so be prepared for that. Plan on being in Houston for at least two weeks waiting for a flight. Get a physical from your family doctor if their are any concerns you have before going to Houston. They check everything and will send you home in a heartbeat if something is out of wack. Drug tests, Blood pressure, and diabetes are the big three. Get frequent flier miles for all the airlines, too. You will work 7-7p everyday. No day's off. You will start getting paid the day you leave Houston but plan on not getting your first check for 6 weeks. (It will be a nice one, though) Any other questions or concerns let me know. hey kbr dude do you know anything about truck drivers there? |

joone in Tucson, Arizona said: Journee, Hey Joone!
KBR will take a memo from his commander stating that he will not have any duties or be eligible for anything during his terminal leave. This is kind of a grey area between the Military and KBR. We try to wait till they are completely out of the military till we send them to Houston but sometimes the candidates cant wait that long. Memo needs to have: First & Last name
I hope this answers your question, if not, please let me know, Ill email/ call you to discuss this matter further. -Journee Jones |

Just popping in to say hi to all the gals and everyone--and wishing everyone a safe and happy New Year. Jdsc, I didn’t post yesterday but I was reading and I knew for a time you were waiting to hear from your dh, so I had to keep kicking my daughter off the puter so I could keep checking back into the forum to watch for a post that you had heard from him. Congrats to everyone who got the call and are flying out to Houston and or abroad in the next days. JourneeJones–as others have said, thank you so much for all your help to everyone. |

Hi everyone! I've started my hiring process about two weeks ago. I accomplished my dental exam, wabi test and my background check came out good. However my recruiter has been on vacation for almost two weeks now. Does anybody know if there's any person that I can contact so I can continue my hiring process and fly to Houston as soon as possible. My recruiter won't be back until January 6th. Thanks in advance! |

Has anyone heard if the the recruits living in Houston have received their itinerary yet? Just wondering, I haven't received mine yet.... curious as to when it may be here. |

How does the very first paycheck look? Is it a "normal" paycheck or is it a little lower than usual or higher than usual? Oh, and when does the direct deposit go through... once a month?

Oh, and when does the direct deposit go through... once a month? The amount of your first check depends on when you start. Your check is usually deposited the first Friday of each month and remember insurance and tax are taken out as well as the $500 advance. |

Just because we have some candidates living in Houston doesn't mean they are going to get their itenerary any faster than you. Our travel department usually will call and email your plans to you 2-3 before you are suppose to fly.

JJ2008 in Houston, Texas said: I thought it was tax free? No, only about 82,500 is tax free and you still have to file taxes. I guess they started taking out taxes becuase people weren't planning ahead and saving in case they had to pay. Also remember to get the tax break you can only be in the States for 35 days a year. If you go by contract year you need to file an extension but always best to check with whoever does your taxes. |
