KiKi I've been following your responses to inquiries about the Houston processing and I have another question. Once you've been contacted by KBR about a position for which you've applied and they request that you come to Houston for processing, should one give their resignation with their current employer? Or if you have enough vacation time with your current employer could you take a 2-3 week leave to do the processing in Houston to be sure you passed the physical before you quit your current job? And if I may please, one more question. I have been trying for over 1 yr. now to get my resume noticed by someone in KBR for Administrative Specialist work. I have 20+ years of Administrative Assistant experience, would you have any ideas on how I might get a foot in the door? Thank you in advance for your time in answering my response. --Kemi |

Oluwakemi, if you can help it, please do NOT quit your job until you sign your contract. If you can, try to take a leave of absence if possible. I say this to you because I've seen soooo many people come to Houston and they either don't make it because of background, they don't pass the WABI,warrants, child support, or mostly, medical conditions that prevent them from getting hired. You are not hired until you sign your contract, and a lot of people don't make it, and they don't have a job to return home to. As far as getting your foot in the door, send me an email and i'll give you some contacts you could try in Houston.Good luck:) |

Well I would suggest renting a car or just hang around and ride the bus network of KBR. And they are bunkers no trenches here. Kinda calm right now but things can change in an instant, Good Luck, Mark |

Hello sometimes it takes time . Just keep putting in your resume. Also might want to try www.ittsystems.com., www.fluor.com., or www.dynacorp.com., All these companies are hiring in some way or another. ITT is hiring for the Antartic also. Those contracts run 4-6 and 12 months. But if you go there be prepared for very cold weather of coarse. And it takes about 2 weeks travel to get there. But KBR always hires , so good luck and be patient. One time it took me 6 months to get back on, Good Luck, Mark |

Use your own bank. Bring at least a couple of voided checks with you and there are no ATM's here. Bring at least a 6 month supply of your prescription with you. KBR pays for your hotel. Meals are provided for at the center. Bring Rolaids with you. That food is to make you get ready for the food here. Eat carefully. SOme bases do not allow personel computers. Sometimes mail can take upto 3-6 weeks or more. But the best way to send mail from home is Priority. Take a leave of absence from your job don't quit until you pass all in houston, TX. Good Luck, Mark |

sutter in London, United Kingdom said: hi Joe, Richard, you are right Doha has a few hurdles. You have to get a company to sponsor you and you have to go thru the process of getting a resident card. Also changing companies here is almost impossible. You have to get a release letter (NOC) before you can move jobs. Most companies will not give you one for the simple reason it costs thousands of dollars just to get you here. So make sure the job you accept is the one you want. ITT would probably be your best choice, I know several guys working for them in Doha, but not sure if they are looking for security. I have been here in Doha on the KBR/Shell Project for 18 months now, and really love the place |

Just curious, does KBR hire any RNs? Joe is still sitting in Houston waiting to fly....some hold up on the other end. Joe's Mom |
|
mgparrothead007 in Bagdad 45 months ago |
Sometimes that happens because of Sandstorms and people get backed up in Dubai or Bagdad. It's not easy flying that 9,000 plus miles. But good luck. RN wise maybe for Medics, BUt KBR does not do any operating, just see if they need to go to the clinic or hospital or worse Germany or home. Good Luck on that also, Mark |

Hi Mark...is there a store over there to buy your everyday items...fem products etc. How does that work as far as paying for things? Also I know the questionaire said that you can have some health things as long as they are under control, yet I see where some people with Hypertension were turned down. Do you know it that was only because maybe when they showed up for the physical they maybe didn't know they had high or low levels. Thanks |

Hi Everyone! I'm new to these boards. My husband went back overseas approx 2 weeks ago. I read in a previous post that payroll cutoff is around the last friday of the month and payday is first thurs/friday. I remember this also from the last time he was there. Can anyone tell me if payroll has already gone through for this month as I have not seen anything hit my bank yet. For those of you who are asking how long it takes to get hired, my husband was putting in app's for the last 2 years and he had been a previous employee who just took a break for a couple of years to come back home and spend time with his family. Just keep sending those resume's in and eventually it will get noticed. Thanks for any help you can give about payroll. |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 45 months ago |
Payroll ending at midnight on the last Saturday of each month. Payroll is usually deposited on the following Thursday or Friday. My husbands check was there yesterday Sept. 4. Debbie |

Ive just finished reading through these several pages, and must say I found all the input to be quite informative. I would like to thank all those that posted for your time and experience. I just sent my resume earlier today, so now I guess its time to play the waiting game. I wonder though how many people on here have done tours in afghanistan? Because most of the jobs I applied for are their.Whats it like in the big A-stan? Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. |

hey mgparrothead007, I recently went back on the KBR jobs website and wow what a shock. Their jobs available shrunk in all areas especially the warehouse/logistics and the skilled trades section! there were only a handful of jobs compaared to hundreds of jobs a couple months if not week ado. what is going on? is there contract expiring or is this just normal activity for this time of year? anyways i applied for the majority of the jobs left. i guess this is not good. maybe the coming election or something. i look forward to your response. |
|
mgparrothead007 in Bagdad 45 months ago |
Yeah alot of stuff is being cut shortly because of LOGCAP IV but that is not for awhile. ANd some other companies are getting some stuff. Or they might have a slower turn over rate. Thats all i can think of. On why they are slow. But election is big good Luck , Mark |

Who ever is looking for a contract job over sea's like Iraq.Companies like KBR,and LOGCAP,Northrup and Grummann are going straight to Military bases to recruit on a monthly basis. My husband and brother just left last week.My advice is be there at a army base Job fair in what ever town that the base is located. |

I cant believe it! Igot a call back from a recruiter today. She gave me a number to call for some kind of general info she told me to get to a quiet place and be prepared to take notes and that I should call her tommorrow, to talk about salary, and any questions I might have. The position is in Afghanistan ... does any1 have experience in afghanistan? Whats its like ... weather, working conditions local culture? Again any info in these areas would be greatly appreciated. Yes congrats to Spawn. Question for you Spawn...when the lady recruiter call you do they call from 713 or 281 Houston area codes. I get a lot of telecom calls and I don't answer 800 numbers or numbers I don't recognize. So I wanted to know what area code they mostly call from if anyone knows this answer. I sure hope that is the case and I haven't miss screened the wrong person. LOL |
|
spawnevolution in Katy, Texas 45 months ago |
I posted my resume on sat the 7th about 11:30 a:m and i got called today (monday) at about 4:30 p:m as i was walking into the local library to study for an exam for the border patrol. mss sasha in regards to your question it was a 713 area code. She gave me a number to call at a certain time turns out it was a conference call with about 25 or so other applicants she hosted the call and basically gave us the run down on what to expect concerning the processing and what was expected from us. i am to call her again tommorrow (tuesday) with any questions and to discuss salary etc etc.hope this helps ... good luck everyone
|
|
mgparrothead007 in Bagdad 45 months ago |
Well they could call from both (281) or (713) you do not want to miss a call from them. Right now things are slowing down. And if they call you and you don't answer. They might go on to the next in line. So I would put up with the tele-marketers for a little while. Rather than miss a chance at $7-$8-$9-$10k a month depending on what your job would be. And just remember when you get to Houston, Tx. Don't miss anything be at all the appointments and all the meetings. It will be information that will be good for yo in the future. And over here. Good Luck, Mark |

mgparrothead007 in Bagdad 45 months ago |
Dear Katy, I have not been to Afghanistan but my brother-in-law was. And some friends from Iraq have been there. It will be cold very very cold in the winter if you like snow you will have snow. Things are heating up some there. Be careful. Although you might be in a place where not much activity is. Just like here where I am somewhere in Iraq. It's calm but we never let our guard down. It was like that the last time for 6 months. And now it has been almost 5 knock on wood. Or very hard sand. You will probrobly be in a tent. I heard some places are getting living containers. I hope someone can give you better information. But in Houston, they will give you a coarse on the weather and climate and what to expect. On the phone questions you might be able to ask a question or two about it. But good Luck and let me know what happens, Mark somewhere in Iraq |
|
Mss_sasha in Dallas, Texas 45 months ago |
Thanks to all who answered the area code question. Spawn, you got call so fast. Which type of job did you apply for with KBR if you can share. I guess it's either in the works for someone or it's not. Some people are waiting months and I guess it just depends on the persons background but what is funny is a lot of the jobs say High School and not College so it seems it could be the luck of the draw. |

Hi all....my hubby is in Houston and he has only been there three days. Im thinking this may be a good thing however there are a couple of questions I have for the professionals that have done this rodeo a time or two. One thing being how are they about the physical, Are they looking for people with NO health issues, or do they let the small stuff go by? Also Can I go to Houston to see him like Saturday and Sunday before he leaves? |
|
Debbie Creery in Gatesville, Texas 45 months ago |
Small medical issues are okay, only looking for major issues that could not be handled in country. You can go visit on the week end, but don't count on him being there more then 10 days or so. I was planning a weekend with my hubby and he called Thursday night and said he was flying out the following morning. They only tell them their flying out time the day before. I husband has been in country for 15 months. Having bad sandstorms today.

thanks for the info Mark sounds like a great place to visit... anyway the position was for a land surveryor, apparently there is a demand right now for surveyors (lucky me) but i also applied for an ironworker pos. and a carpenter pos. i talked to recruiter today she will be e-mailing my paperwork . so i have to get a dental release( no bad teeth that could cause trouble later down the road ie; pain, emergency treatment, etc. also the wabi test which is designed to test your evaluated your risk capacity and teamwork; ie if a question asks what your hobbies are dont answer with skydiving or rattlesnake wrangling instead say reading or knitting get it? also if you finish your task would you a. sit around and wait for something to do or b. go help your fellow workers answer b. and of course my background check. it goes back 7 years they check your employment, where youve lived and of course criminal background if you have any misdemeanors tell them up front even traffic tickets if you dont and they find them you will be disqualified ... "nondisclosure" my processing date is oct. 6 apparently they set you up in the HILTON !!!!SWEET!!!! stay safe everyone. M G

No, don't think they set you up in the Hilton. That is what my husbands travel papers said then he got there and that is the "meeting" place then a shuttle takes all the people and spreads them out to places like Ramada Inn etc.... |

They don't care as long as it is controlled with meds. Make sure he takes a three to six month supply as mail take 3-6 weeks to get to him. My husband is south west of Baghdad at Camp Echo. He is a master plumber. He just started his second year. Wish your husband luck as I hear it get very, very cold in Afganistan. Debbie |

Joseph Holt in Ft Benning, Georgia 45 months ago |
They use several hotels. Joe was first in a Ramada and when there is room he was moved to the Hilton. We got lucky and he had a suite. They also use a Marriot. The Hilton is stright across from the mall and processing center, they just walk over. If they are at another hotel then they use a shuttle. |

Ya, it is around 10 days. My husband went in on Sunday and they are telling him it looks like he will be leaving out Tuesday or Wednesday. |
