Do you work at Kohler? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

This is a very good company and they are being very careful about their selection.

They are very selective when it comes to HR roles. Very resistant to going outside of a manufacturing environment when it comes to previous experience. They do utilize search firms for some of the HR roles.

I interviewed for a technical position, was selected as the candidate they really wanted but it has taken then weeks to get the hiring approved. Excellent company, bonus, benefits and future - and they know this. I guess this gives them the license to be so slow in bringing people in. Best advice - you'll need a specialty skill or need to know someone to get in the door. Keep at it and good luck!

They can be as selective as they want, but for a simple position in field sales operations they are taking it to level only GOD can match. It is so ironic when they can not see pass the industry you worked in, doing the same job, same skill level just another product line. But on the flip side seems as if all HR people are just cookie cutting the positions. If you do not have the exact skills they require forgetaboutit!

There is a company Intranet site that lists the open positions and they really try to hire/promote from within. With 35,000 + employees, anyone coming in from the outisde is going to likely start at the end of current workers for consideration.

Alot of their ads though have the requirement "2 to 3 years of related job experience and 2-3 years experience on Kohler Company systems." So unless you are a former or current employee, you don't qualify.

I've done their entire song and dance with interviewing, but never got in. They are very selective and their needs are always changing. It's not always about experience because if you can bring something new to the table they don't have, but they'd like to utilize, you'll get hired. I've got a friend though working there, to no avail, finds their corporate structure, well, very frustrating and full of road blocks. Maybe other departments aren't all that bad.

My husband was 1 of 8 people chosen to fly out to Kohler for interviews. They came across very unprofessional, rescheduling interview after interview. They strung him along until just a few weeks ago (this started in April), filled all the entry level positions, & then told him they were looking for a more experienced designer, knowing full well he just graduated. He described them as very "cult-like"...you have to be the perfect fit for their little circle...kinda like in Meet the Parents ("Circle of Trust").

I worked at Kohler and it was a really easy job to get actually. I had bo expierience and I just walked in, dropped off my resume and they called me and then Bam I had the job. Being a young girl it was hard to maintain a good rep but i proved to everyone that I was a hard worker and that I deserved the treatment the leadhands gave me. I guess being 17 at the time and getting my level 3 in like 4 months showed them :D

To be honest, this is company that you should just want to stay away from. It will make you take tests and assessment that lead to nothing. The company is filled with inappropriate hires who lack the skill for the task they were secured to perform. I hope that the Kohler family is just kept out of the loop, but if they implemented the hiring procedures, then they deserve the average Joes that make up the upper management ranks of the company.

I was interviewed for a senior IT position.
Their emails and communication is courteous.
They make you take so many tests, answer so many questions.
BTW they follow behavioral based interviewing methods.
Then they called me for an onsite interview. They are cordial, respectful.
The interview being done by 4 people, the whole chain of authority, my boss, boss's boss, boss's colleagues etc.
They come across as laid back, do-it-in-your-way people.
My experience and expertise level is probably better than my boss's, and his colleagues. They mentioned it during the interview. I attributed it to the company for which I previously worked. The city (rather a village) Kohler is simply a very small town and remote in interior Wisconsin. You live there just for the job.
Unfortunately they told me after 2 wks that they didn't choose me.
I believe the reasons to be-
$ they didn't believe I would come there after working for a prestigious company for a long time (Actually I would have).
$ Couple of other reasons which are specific to my situation

But Kohler is a good place to work if you like..
* Slow life. Good work-life balance
* Stability. You will be there even after 10 yr, if you wanted it.
* Social life is not that important for you 'cause Kohler is a very small town.
* Pay could be just average

Hope this helps,
