What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable?

How does LabCorp stack up against the competition?

I'm pretty sure that Labcorp bought out MDS labs here locally. Quest and Labcorp seem to be in competition with each other. It may depend on which area you reside. There's another lab - Bio-Reference labs too. I'm sure they'll survive. I do wish they'd put more concern in for their employees. All I look for in an employer is a nice working environment where I can do what I was trained to do and do it along with "NICE" coworkers. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. I'm not sure if their labs are unioned now or not. I'm also under the impression that Labcorp may pay better than Quest. I only say that because I worked for Quest and I interviewed at Labcorp - Labcorp had over $1/hr on the Quest position, but I took Quest because the hours were better.

I worked very hard every day and they still fired me because I stood up to sexual orientation discrimination and being physically pushed up against the wall by a fellow employee.

Labcorp will survive.....every year they hire like crazy from about March to June....then in November they have a huge layoff. I worked for them 10 years and it never failed. Their turn around time sucks and they blame it on everyone but themselves. If you send in a sample to Labcorp and one to any competition the results will be different...then send a third out and Labcorp will always be different. Noone cares and if a mistake is made it is covered up.

STAY AWAY! LabCorp is a detestable place to work and they treat employees like crap. My manager, after almost 30 years with the company, was "demoted" in front of his entire staff - without first being pulled aside privately and advised of his demotion. QUOTE: "Effective immediately, your manager is being demoted to this position and will be moving his items from his office and putting them in that cubicle down there." After several years with that company, I personally witnessed NUMEROUS "Black Mondays", where hords of people are let go and lead out into the parking lots, like cattle, holding their little boxes and being escorted to their vehicles. Usually - if you're close to being fully vested with the company, or for longer-term employees - if you're close to retirement, the internal joke is always "You're next"... Benefits are lousy. Pay is not competitive. The internal politics is brutal and back-stabbing there. It's a seedy corporate environment that bad movies are made of. STAY AWAY !!!

And just how long ago was this? I am assuming that since you are in High Point, you would report out of Winston Salem. I am interested in knowing just how long ago your Manager was demoted in front of everyone.

I also have witnessed a Supervisor being demoted in front of her staff without first being told and that was in Herndon 4 years ago. Management has no problem walking anyone out that does not agree with their irresponsible ideas. If you try and make things right you will be walked out...the only way you are kept around is if you kiss butt. Upper management does not care about their employees just the bottom dollar for their own pocket. Over the last 5 years the Herndon location has been a joke. I hope Management in Burlington straightens the place out before too many other good employees leave or get termed. In the dept that I work in the Manager is prejudicial and talking to the ethics line is a joke nothing gets done if you complain.

wow, i thought our lab was the only one getting the shake down! why dont they let the experts who created the smaller labs (that got sold to labcorp), run them like they should be instead of having some arrogant person who knows nothing about the town, come in and make all the changes, that will eventually bring down, what so many people have worked so hard to build.I am shocked at the greed here, about saving money. what about saving lives? is that not part of the job? If one lab is so short handed, how can the work be properly done, without error, and in sufficient time? i have been told by labcorp people that this is a 3 billion dollar ( per year ) company. please....what is going on here?

This happened in 2005 in Columbus, Ohio. I had decided at that time I needed to leave the company, but ended up staying with the company and transferring to corporate ... where the fun continued. On my first day in my corporate job, they had a "Black Monday" ... one of those Mondays where they systematically fire multitudes of people, leading them out to their cars like cattle, each holding their little boxes of personal belongings in their arms.

I left LabCorp, not for being hit in the recuring and infamous Black Mondays, but because of the constant lying I had to do to save my own job. I was told in 1Q07 that no one would be part of a another RIF for any reason. Numbers were going to come from other methods. I was to tell my dept. that there was nothing to be afraid of. Well, if I had to lie to my department, why wouldn't my VP not lie to me?

Pruning is good, but not every year. There is a time to sit back and see the fruits of that pruing flourish. At LabCorp, they don't even wait for the cuttings to heal before the pruning starts anew.

I still have friends at LabCorp and in Burlington. They are all anxious to leave from all walks of life. That is lab personnel, corporate back-office, customer support, IS, acounting, and so on. Even under a new CEO, nothing has changed to reshape the company. And he's a lawyer, well, make your own judgments from that.

If not corrected soon, there will be slippery slide downward and the company will not be able to recover. Unless you live in Burlington, NC, I would look elsewhere for a committed, long-term relationship. (I worked there for over a decade.) If you live in Burlington, there's not much to be lost.

I worked at Lab Corp in Indy and was with a winning team in the accessioning dept. We walked in on Monday and was told of a manditory meeting that night. Everyone in our department was lossing there job as of Friday. That Friday was the 13th, the best day of my life other than the birth of my child!

Layoffs have happened in Mt. Vernon, WA. Some of us were asked to voluntarily separate and a draw station, which was only about a year old, and that the company had completely remodeled. has closed. Quest will be moving into the space. My last day was 8/31. The problems I see, locally, are their tendency to spend lavish amounts on unnecessary things while scrimping on items that would attract and keep patients. Dynacare had many clients and patients in Bellingham. After Labcorp took over, they gradually started leaving. When the draw station moved, not much was done to notify the patients. Our competitor, NW Regional, put up a huge billboard weeks before they opened a new draw station. The company seemed oblivious to the fact that they were losing business to other companies.

Yes, it was the lies or, at least, not telling us the truth. We could all see it coming but they kept telling us they were doing great. I have to say, I'm grateful for the generous severance package they gave me but, that's just another example of how they spend money on things that aren't productive for them, and scrimp on things that would bring them more clients.

They put on a huge campaign to get us to vote out the union. Promised all kinds of things. New people fell for their rhetoric, so it was voted out. None of their promises were true.

Labcorp decided shut down most of the Louisville lab, which by the way was the no. 1 lab in the country, and send the work elsewhere. I believe that this is a bad move for Labcorp. They are sending most of this work to Columbus where this lab was responsible for already losing a major accournt. I just don't think this is going to work and Labcorp will regret this decision.

Labcorp needs to be regulated heavily or SHUT down. Insurance company's need to drop these jokers.

I hate Labcorp with a passion. Everytime my doctors wants to run a test I cringe. Between the wait time, the clueless idiots who works there, the inexperienced techs who can’t find the vein saying “Goodness the veined rolled”.

I hate this place. The last 2 times I went I suggested to them a real nice vein and the tech chose to use a vein that was almost not visable and then they dug and digged until the caught it. You should see the bruises.

Todays problem is their refusing to supply me with my reports. They did offer it mail it to me in 2 weeks. This is against NJ Department of Health and Hospital requlations. I spoke with DHH and they suggested me filing a complaint. When I told Don Luu the Director of Hippa regulations he was no help just an arrogant idiot who is too lazy to do his job and follow the NJ Statuates. Then I spoke with Don Hardison COO and he stands behind his MORON. Dave King CEO is out of the office at a conference. I’m sure some exotic resort at the sharholders $$$$$.

What a joke. These people should be heavily regulated and made to follow the rules of each state, not make up the rules as they see fit.

I'd like to add to this, several tests as missing from the report. Then they materialized but are they sending over the missing results, HELL NO>>>>>>They keep sending over duplicates of the original report. Is it asking too much for them to do their job properly. What a bunch of INCOMPETANTS!!!!

I know that this is an older topic, and am not sure if anyone is still following..but just could not resist putting my two cents in about LabCorp. The company is a joke to say the least. It is a holding company that only cares about what the company looks like on paper, nothing more. They will eventually bleed it dry and right before it is about to crumble, they will sell it off to some unsuspecting fool(s). I worked in Burlington, and was one of the best in my department. I knew the instruments better than anyone, and was always willing to stay late and go the extra mile. Yet I never got any promotions or raises that were worth a crap. When I left to pursue a much better offer, they had to fill my slot with two people. They do absolutley nothing to keep promising young talent from leaving. This can only lead one to believe that they are not at all concerned with the future, only the present. This just goes to point, about the company being a leech. The labs are understaffed and the people are overworked, and because of this the validity and integrity of patient results are comprimised on a daily basis. The bottom line is that LabCorp only cares about profit margins and stock values, patient care and integrity of the "service" they provide is of no concern whatsoever.

LabCorp Sucks in Miami, Florida

LabCorp sucks! My personal frustration with them has led me to create a website called www.labcorpsucks.com. Their employees are out of control and it seems that this is a result of their mid-level managers. There is nothing worse than someone with two working eyes but does not see what is in front of them. We will be recording complaints and filing them with the appropriate government regulators and investigatory agencies. Maybe then they will get it.

labcorp is a co like any other. you make money to survive. as for all the negative comments i've read, it brings one question to mind. are you all haters or what? so you couldn;t have your way on the job, suck it up, you're an adult.and as for the master mind that started all of this, your physician is to blame as much as labcorp. if these arrogant, jack a would utilize the tools they have for ordering lab test's, then there would not be any problem with them receiving the lab results. i.e. directory of services, web, customer service. pretty easy. as for the service you received, i've waited in my physician's office for over 2 hrs, i did not post a web site to complain. i found another dr. get my point? maria should not be fired, there are other ways to deal with employees. i'm quite sure she need a job like you or i. think about it. god don't like ugly.

I would say that you are correct in your statement that LabCorp is just like any other company in the regards of needing to money to survive. I do not argue with you on that point. However it is also important to remember that the product which they are providing is not just a widget but is an extremley important service which deals with life and death situations on a routine basis. It is not like other companies, where you can cheap out on labor to try and pad the bottom line with minimal risk to the customer. Cheaping out on labor, general operations costs and in some cases even the supply chain can have severe repercussions in a medical business. I do not know if you work for them, have worked for them in the past or what your personal experience with this company is, but I do know that I worked there for 5 years as a chemist, and in the last 4 years that I was there, the sample volume more than doubled, and the work force of chemists to run these assays was reduced. It does not take a mathemitician to see the potential problem caused by such a descision. I routinley worked 60 hour weeks and in many cases put in time on the weekends as well, and I was not the only one doing this. Overloading your chemists and lab personnel leads to burn out and ultimatley a growing error margin. In the time that I was there I saw countless corrective reports being issued in my department alone, and keep in mind that some of these errors cost patients thier lives. The bottom line here is that LabCorp (and I am not saying they are the only clinical lab running thier business this way-they are just the only one that I have personal insight into) is sacraficing the integrity of the services they provide to inflate thier market stock value, and they are doing this to the extreme, which is not only irresponsible, but just greedy and dangerous.

I loved my job but doing it alone every day was very difficult,I will miss my counter parts in other PSC's we were each other's support system, when it snowed ,we called each other to make sure we got to work safely, management didn't care...It was all about the #'s,there was no compassion for the workers we complained about our hands and shoulders hurting from the new TOUCH system and we were each told ,You are the only one complaining..not true.Pt's complained about wait times, well when you get 7 or more signing in at the same time, someone has to wait when there is only one person working...I felt very betrayed by my supervisor and manager,in my 10yrs ,I have never seen anyone retire, another friend was let go after 10yrs and she never got her gifts..most are terminated for some policy infraction or another, but there are some people who can make big time crucial mistakes and they are still there..so much to say but not worth it,not a very fair company ...
