Level 3 communications Fired over 2000 people as they reduced the workforce after buying 6 companies in the last 2 years.

Level 3 Communications was working to integrate the networks from the different companies but ran out of money. The integration of the networks has stopped. The executives and managers that made the decisions to buy the 6 companies have been forced out of Level 3 communications.
Workers that were working on the integration have lost their jobs because there isn't any money to finish the integration. There were given RIFs or Layedoff.

Level 3 Communications also stated they can't afford to upgrade equipment they have that is 'End of Life cycle'. They stated they can't afford to upgrade the Juniper M160s because of lack of money. Juniper isn't going to support them with patches and IOS upgrades. Also no more vendor support.

Also Level 3 communications has been gradually giving the tasks done by IT to other departments. As the other departments have begun to take over the work IT used to do the IT department is being disbanded and the workers let go.

The customer support of the customers is being outsourced to foriegn companies. WIPRO and INFOSYS are 2 companies taking over customer support positions.

Of course some departments may be hiring at the moment while others are being laid off. That is for the moment. Who knows about tomorrow!
