In the north east a few offices starting pay is $9.00/hr plus 5% commision.

Here in Florida, my offices start new preparers with no experience and no built-up clientelle at $8.50 an hour plus 4% of revenue on returns they do. This averages to about $12.50 an hour the first tax season. After that the percentage and hourly rate goes up to recognize experience, and good preparers build up a clientelle so they do better in subsequent years. The above is just the starting rate for someone who has never done this kind of work before.
