I was laid off a few weeks ago and today a coworker called and said HR interrogated him about my "drug use" and if I were smuggling drugs on site. This can't be legal. It is so random it is impossible to believe but it is confirmed. They have no right to deface my character do they?

LM's HR technicians are generally the people responsible for conducting personnel investigations, and for the most part they are very good at what they do. Terminating an employee for cause is a very lengthy process at LM, and they almost always give the employee the benefit of the doubt. In all of the cases I've seen, the HR techs (who sometimes work off-site) have interviewed the employee as well as his/her co-workers. Employees don't have the choice to refuse to participate in a personnel investigation, and withholding information is a punishable offense as well. It's tough to be the subject of an investigation, but what you see right now as "defacing your character" is part of a process that might eventually keep you eligible for unemployment benefits, or to be re-hired at LM.

One side note-- all employees, including the subject of an investigation, are prohibited from discussing the investigation with anyone besides the HR tech. So even though your co-worker was probably just trying to look out for a friend, by calling you he violated the policies that HR would have told him at the start of the investigation. If you've been contacted by HR and told that you were the subject of an investigation, you would have violated these policies as well by posting on the Internet...

I havent been contacted by HR. I was layed off with a group that recieved notice two weeks prior. There was no indication or a suggestion of an issue. This friend might be telling a pretty damaging story and I just let myself get involved. I honestly dont know if there was anything actually said. I emailed my ex-supervisor but as you stated the policy would prevent him from discussing it.

You or HR need a refresher regarding what's allowable if they're issuing that as a general, blanket ban.

If HR told me that, either as a witness or the target of an investigation, I would tell them to go pound sand under section 7 of the NLRA. If they terminated me because of it, they'd face a charge under Section 8, unfair labor practices, which largely limits what employers can prohibit non supervisory employees from discussing. It'd be a payday for me, and a lot of HR training for the HR folks.

There is no facts to go on here. You need to tell us the context of the investigation and what was actually asked, and What was said, if you know. If not, you need to ask your coworker. Or not, as i'm not seeing how this rumor makes any difference.

You don't want to create a storm where only sand is lying. Do nothing.

Is this type of behavior typical of workers in most of the LM locations? I thought I would re-apply for an EE position. But after reading this, I'm not so sure now....

now what in Fort Worth, Texas

It has officially been confirmed by several individuals that HR singled out one individual associated with me and interrogated him about my drug use. Then Security and an HR representative escorted him to his vehicle and searched it without discretion, in view of other individuals who were laid off that day. It was confirmed that they did this due to hjs association with me.
I have never been confronted, contacted or tested. I was laid off, with UI accepted and re-call rights. How am I supposed believe that their baseless accusations havent been repeated to possible employers.

You were laid off over two months ago, but you're still letting yourself get worked up over gossip and hearsay? I doubt that you're ever going to get any official documentation of the investigation where your name came up, so it might be best to move on. If you hope to get recalled to your previous position with LM, keep in touch with your former manager and stay on good terms. If you're ready to seek out other employment, then by all means do so.

Either way Lockheed Martin operates without impunity. They just flew 12 people from all over the country, gave the rental cars and nice hotels for an assessment that resulted in zero hirings..
