Regarding the state of the housing market, what does everyone think about how stores like Lowe's will do?

Do you think people will still make the purchases to renovate and fix up their homes or will they put these projects off? How will this affect Lowe's?

Some will invest in their home. Many others will cut back and defer improvements only spending money on needed repairs. The current financial will hit all Retailers in a negative way.

I found this article today:

Merchants Nervous About Christmas Season As Survey Shows You'll Be Spending Less-

"So what's the most likely thing you'll receive this year? The research claims it's a gift card which two thirds of the more than 13,000 people asked admit will be their only recourse. But you may not be able to buy much with it. The average amount they'll put on it is just under $30, more than five bucks less than the year before"

"So who will be hit hardest by all this? Deloitte believes it will be the home improvement places like Home Depot, Lowe's and Rona, as people put off those renovation jobs until things settle down"

Not only are the Home Depots and Lowes going into the slowest times of the year, but they're facing tough economic times as well. In the past if one had decided to put money into their existing home and depending on the remodeling they anticipated doing,They could borrow money. That business has dried up for now. I had recently visited a Lowe's and today a Home Depot and one could hear a pin drop in both stores. All that one could see was employees?? It was easy to get assistance if you needed it which is unusual. The Clothing retailers will be hit hard this year.Retailers like Macy's are already marking down goods. There will be some great values I believe this Christmas season, sacrificing the bottom line which will not be good economic news for the first and possibly second quarter next year. Enough gloom and doom be positive and keep smiling.

From what I am reading on here and other Lowe's forums. Lowe's last week, has really tightened down the payroll plan. And has as a company issued a "hiring freeze" that will not thaw most likely until after Jan. 2009.

Even some of their strongest markets are now being impacted by the financial crisis that has spread world wide over the past month. Also, I'm certain Lowe's management will use this period of payroll reduction to let go anyone they have deemed "non-performers" or "malcontents".

To survive at Lowe's or any job until this world-wide crisis improves, one must become a very engaged and productive person. Also failure to "carry the company flag" could put you on the list. So be ready to lead the cheer at the morning meetings. Take a broader interest in your job and your company.

And if you say: "Hell no", I'm not going to be a brown nose.... you might want to take a glimpse at the recent lack of "Help Wanted" ads in your local paper and last months unemployment statistics for your area. Then re-evaluate your plans for getting yourself and your family through this world wide financial crisis unharmed.

In these times, people beging to look out for themselves and a dog eat dog instinct kicks in. Survival of the smartest, not the fittest.

Any Jimmie Johnson - Lowe's #48 fans on here? What do you people think about the millions that Lowe's sends on sponsoring Nascar. I use to think it was a waste of money. But with Johnson looking like he is ready to win yet another championship, it appears now to be money well spent advertising wise.

The big issue for me is that Lowe's spends big money on getting people into the stores with marketing and advertising, then cuts the payroll back so far that many of those same targeted consumers end up leaving without making a purchase.

In otherwords, Lowe's has their advertising and marketing down to a science, but they have forgotten how to properly close the sale.

Your thoughts Lowesland on this Lowesland people?

(I might do a more in-depth analysis of this subject on my personal blog soon, so any feedback would be very much appreciated. As you know I always try to gain an understanding by listening to diverse opinions.)

Why are you leaving?

I read on another forum that you "WON" against some "trolls" here. But if that is true, then why are you quitting?

Since you and Run2U are the only people on this forum that post anything on topic, then there will be nothing left, this will be a wasteland.

Was this your way of "destroying" another Lowes forum, something you have always admitted and take such pride in doing?

Sounds to me like you are letting the trolls win.
