How to get a job at Macy's West.

Do you work at Macy's West? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

I started working for Macy's West last November after I applied online for a seasonal job in the signing dept (the sign team arrives at the store several hours before it opens - I work part time 20 hrs a week & my hours are usually 6:30 am to 10:30 am). Members of the sign team each have their own area to oversee - mine is housewares - and are responsible for putting up sale signs for each product/rack/etc. in their assigned area. I was asked to stay on permanently after the Christmas season was over. I do feel that the management at my store really does try hard to keep their employees happy - they always make an honest effort to resolve problems however, I also see that Macy's expects a lot out of everyone - for example, I've seen mornings where one sales associate is left alone to take care of customers in housewares, textiles, and china until another sales associate comes in at 2 in the afternoon.
My advice to anyone interviewing for a job is to stress that he/she is reliable and responsible - I'm so surprised by how often my fellow employees call in sick on Fridays and Saturdays, show up late, or just plain try to goof off instead of doing what they should do. I love the perks that Macy's gives their employees - we always get 20% off purchases if we use a Macy's card, and Macy's runs employee appreciation days where they'll take an additional 15% extra on top of the regular bonus - they also on occasion give us friends and family coupons that give family members an extra 20% off.
It's not perfect, the start out pay is fairly low - from $8.50 to about $9 from what I've surmised.

Pass them over and keep looking. You can do better than standing on yr feet all day for min wage pushing a lie. It's irresponsible to push credit cards on people in this economy--and that is basically what you are hired to do.
