Whenever a new ME opens up in an area, I seem to get a lot of people who are really concerned about how it will affect their business or their low rates of pay.

I did that too at first because it was such a new concept.

The truth is that however you are reacting to this - it won't really help create better wages or more respect for the massage profession. Only your actions will show this.

The fear of massage envy and other places like it is really just a wake up call. It reflects your perspective and beliefs about yourself. There are many sides to working for this type of place. Not all ME are the same. You can decide if you want to work there and make an effort to pay you more by making them understand that their business is there basically because of you and the outstanding massage and service that YOU provide.

You can learn all that you can about the massage business so that you can eventually open your own place.

You can ride on ME coat tails as they spend money doing a lot of advertising for the massage profession by educating consumers about massage and what YOU can do that is different that the service of a ME.

You can creatively market your own practice.

It is your choice basically how you perceive ME - with Fear or with Love. That is all there is really. How they affect you is also your choice. Will you let them affect what you do? Will you blame them for your unsuccessful practice or will you praise them for bringing massage into the mainstream?
