I find the name of your franchise disagreeable. I almost didn't try the local clinic because the name goes against the spiritual concept of most massage centers. It's obvious this was named by someone who is only looking at this from a financial perspective. Marilynne J. Morley |

Hi, I'm a Liscensed Massage Therapist and i work for a Massage Envy in Charleston, SC....The name does not make or break the establishment. The great therapist, clients and what we offer does. Our company offers everyone no matter the income level or status in life, health or belief. We offer care, respect, wealth of knowledge, education and comfort. So you may feel the name is contradicted but the service is commending. So don't judge this book by the cover, read inside and see what we are about. |

I really don't like the name at all either. I'm embarrassed to use it. However, I am guessing if they gave a focus group the names of 20 massage places and asked them to repeat the names an hour later, Massage Envy is one of the few they would remember. In our area a local nun was one of the first individuals to really make it big in the massage biz ... everyone has to find something 'unique' to capture people's attention. However, even though her habit (which she has never worn) gets her lots of media coverage, she has earned it through donating thousands of hours to community service! And speaking of McDonalds ... when I was in Australia I would have loved to found a Massage Envy when I needed a massage, instead of having to choose at expensive internationally-known spa or Mimi's Massage. As I have traveled around the world I try to steer clear of McDonald's. However, name recognition is worth alot and I will gladly buy an occassional soft drink in exchange of a clean, safe bathroom. Do any of you grumblers have a cool mil to start a massage therapist cooperative franchise? AMTA started with a handful of folks. And ABMP started with a handful of folks disgruntled with the AMTA ... and so it goes. |
