Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Merck? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Merck? |

Professional dress is required so for the guys - full-on suits. Some people get together after work but that is up to you and your counterparts. The day starts early and ends at the end of the business day. Then there is computer work at home plus tests to study for and take every quarter,6 months. The culture is the problem. Last couple of years tons of people left because of upper management treating the reps badly, very badly!!!!! Still has not changed much so be prepared. Management is your friend today and tomorrow you are fired. You might want to look elsewhere for a more respectable company. |

That's a little harsh and doesn't apply to all Merck sites. I work at the Research Lab in Boston and it is casual. Yes, managers dress a bit better but hardly anyone wears a full-on suit. Most people working in the labs are very casual, jeans are perfectly acceptable. We have a Happy Hour every Friday in our Atrium and tons of social events (Friday night bowling, trips to hockey, baseball games, volunteer activities, book club) so there are plenty of opportunities to socialize. People are not fired or laid off at random - most of the people that leave do so voluntarily and not because it's a horrible place to work. |

How long can one be on the bench before a job offer might come about?? |
