Do you work at Michael's Arts and Crafts? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in? |

I can say that I have personal experience with employment at Micheal's someone in my immediate family just got pushed into quitting.. they said they liked her work and they gave her a raise and then when the holidays were over and she they hired 2 new people even though they said they were slowing down with work and then they dropped her down to one day a week.. she went in and ask if there was something wrong with her work and they said no they were happy with her work and she inquired about her hours and why they hired 2 people when they were slow and she had actually been there the longest expect one other person.. they gave the new people the hours and then said they could only work her one day a week and she said ok that is fine. then when she went back into work today they said well

So yeah. I am not speaking for every Michaels, just putting in my two cents. |

As far as the pay, that's not anything that's going to be great no matter what you do. If you're a cashier or on the sales floor, it's about the same as most retail. If you work in framing, you won't get what you're worth by far. As far as the other bits, it is like ANY large corporation - completely dependent on the makeup of the location in question. The manager of the store will have a large say in who HIS or HER managers are, and they will either allow, encourage, or discourage the kinds of things KristenC88 is referring to. In my experience, it is no more than in any other retail environment. As far as getting a job at Michael's, hiring is done on a local level for entry level positions (non-management). Put in the application, but don't wait to be called. Contact the store manager and ask for when you can have an interview. Some stores have weekly or monthly "open interviews" at a pre-set time, but they often don't tell applicants that, it's often to allow friends/family of employees a chance to get an interview even if they're not called I think. So be sure to ask for an interview from the store manager personally after filing your application. |
