What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at Motorola? What do you like best about working at Motorola? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees? |

Motorola pays very well. The benefits are good for medical and dental. Bonuses are tied to profit and with current problems inside company they may not be giving out very good bonuses this year. Last years bonus was very small. The best thing about working at Motorola was being around some very sharp, skilled people who were trying their best to keep the company afloat. |

Yeah, and wait until you experience the joy of Relative Performance Assessment (RPA), in which 10% each year have to be identified as deadbeats and get no incentive pay. NOTE emphasis on "relative." Even if you make all your stated goals, perform great, your manager can subjectively decide it's your turn to bite it and your performance "relative" to the rest of the group didn't exceed, so you get the shaft. As for comm's function there, corporate functions been all but dismantled in the past 9 months, they never re-hired a chief comm's officer, the next in line VP was shown the door and is packing her bags as we speak, the director below has fled to some small company and there's a political battle between the new "marketing guy" trying to put just his people in place rather than finding the most qualified. On the marketing side, MOT has always been BAD at it, REally BAD, and they generally don't know good marketing talent if it bit them in their brand promise, so they typically keep Peter Principling up the long-time a** kissers. Just look at how they treat any of their employees. You want a piece of that, you must also like being beaten with whiffle bats for kicks. Zander has tanked the company with his arrogant moves, slashed severance, benefits and perks and services, all while he reaped mega paydays. Greg Brown - next in line? Yeesh, what a prospect. The guy's made his name all the way from Ameritech slashing and burning, just as he did with the CGISS (public safety) business and teams. |
