Sales associates at Neiman Marcus are on draw vs commission. Your base pay may be $10 per hour, but you're expected to make more than that in commission. Commission varies by department, and you can sell outside of your own department. For example, if you sell a pair of sunglasses you will receive 9% commission for that sale, but if you sell a handbag you'll receive around 7 or 7.5% commission for that item. If you're good at selling you can do really well.
There are often incentives and contests to get you to sell a lot of a certain brand or product for contests that allow you to receive money or free products. Working at Neiman Marcus can be a lot of fun, and it is a good company to work for. As far as retail goes, I think they're probably the best. As an employee you receive 30% off when shopping, but they often have 30/30 events where you receive your 30% discount plus an additional 30% discount. Sometimes some designers will even be offered at 50% off plus your 30%, so you can get some great deals on designer merchandise.
