I worked at Newell for 6 years. Hard work, high expectations. They always brought in new, young, energetic graduates who looked down at the rest of us as they were coached and told that they were better. With hard work, making sure that you yourself perform, it was a breeze and Newell responded positively. Meanwhile the new, younger managers slowly disappeared. They are a great company with the same problems that any other firm would have. They truly supported those who helped with the growth of the firm. A solid, terrific company. |

Bean counters at Newell decided that costs were lower in Memphis so they moved this division there. I was offered a relocation package. I love LA so I declined. I wanted to raise our son here. Mitsubishi took me and they also were terrific. |

All my contacts at Newell have moved on or retired. A 4 year degree minimum is required at Newell. I only had a AA degree and so I was considered "less than" by many. I also became employee of the year...... Proved numerous people wrong. You needed to be very aggressive to work at Newell. As I've mentioned before, they were a great company and they are not falling apart by any means. By the way, after a stint in Memphis after moving the plant from LA, it all fell apart. Employees in Memphis wanted a lot more money to operate the machines than what it cost in Los Angeles. They simply refused to work for the wages offered and speed expected. It had to be broken down and sent to different cities. Costs and raw materials were cheaper in LA. |
