I'd like to ask someone who was hired and went through training what could be so difficult that it requires 8 weeks away? And after someone goes through all that why don't they stay? I think those are the real questions. |

There training school is a jokeI just left ther on tuesday.I failed one of the first three tests and was fired and sent home. They changed the trainng Syllibas at least three times during the nearly four weeks I was there.I lost at least one practice test during all there changes, most likey resulting in my failure. The training is conducted at warp speed as far as the lectures go.Then they pretty much expect you to be able to do it the next day. This company severly misrepresented the info. about traning school to me prior to hireing in with the company.I was told If I faild TWO tests during training I would be fired.I quit a $58,000 a year job to go to work for this company only to be fired weeks later for pretty minor reasons.By the way the subject I failed was Mark 2 metering this is equiptment that is pretty much no longer being installed, and in a year to a year and a half it will be totaly done away with.If I were you and I was seriously considering these Bozos I would take a real long breath and have a seconed thought.I'm 49 years old and have never been fired from a job in my life.I'n currently unemployed.Thank's Nielsen! |

The older equipment has been around since the late 70's. They are just recently starting to integrate off the shelf technology, such as wifi. The training will become shorter since the older technology will no longer be used. You have to absorb and understand the information very quickly. The job changes with whatever new technology hits the market. It is constantly changing. BTW, I had no issues with training school and they let you know up front you will be sent home if you fail. Something to think about. While I was there the turnover rate for Field Rep decreased dramatically. When I started it was like 2 year turnover and more reps stayed for 4-5. |

I was also told I would have to pass the traning school.Problem is I was told if I failed two tests I would be sent home.I only failed one. Also the traing schedule changed midway through our class and I was shorted out of two metering excercis's prior to takeing the Mark two metering test.Think about it real hard before you quit your job and go to Nielsen. They have no problem with sending you home unemployed. |

I just got done with 12 years with Nielsen. Just let go!! I was a good hard working employee who was never in trouble. They just "cleaned house" in the Cinti Market. Got rid of the expensive guys for new inexpensive ones. No loyalty to long term employees. They were sold 3 - 4 times over my tenure and every time the company got worse and worse to work for. They used to care about family and the employee. They used to cheer for all the experienced reps. Now its all about the $$$$$.. If you last long enough you will be fired. That is their style. |

We had a dude in our class from new mexico who had worked for Nielsen for seven years,he failed the a.p. test only and they fired him.I've heard several stories like these.I'm glad as hell I did'nt make it through there stupid little school. It was a joke right along with the arrogent horses ass who was the so called instructor.I've since found a better job back in the Cable industry were I should have stayed in the first place. While I was down there going to school there seemed to be a lot of folks getting fired who had been there a long time. There just another too large company who dont give a damn about the folks who make it possible for them to make all there millions.Screw them, move on you'll be better off in the long run.Imagine what it's like for the one's who have been there twenty and more years.Jeez this country is going down in flames. |

Is the training as horrible as Mr. Carver describes? If you try and study, is the equipment really that hard to master? I had quite a tough time through school, but I was able to make it. I am really not a good tester. |

I just returned from Oldsmar, Fl. I decided I had enough when I during a test the Instructor would not allow me to swap out bad eqiupment. The training program is a joke. The instructor was a D1ck! Two other classmates were sent home with me after failing one of the tests. We were told that we could fail one out of three tests. Turns out your score on the failed test was an important detail they left out during the interview. If anyone is reading this and is considering going through this training. Your chances are about 50 - 60% that you will pass -- probably not worth quiting your current job for! |

They no longer train for MK2 metering.. so new guys only get 4 to 6 weeks training. The trainers are just field reps. Not teachers. They make the school hard on purpose they treat it as an initiation to the club. Only problem is the club isnt a stable company anymore and no fun to work for. If you last long enough and start to make a decent wage, your in danger. You eventually will be fired LOL. Bring more cheap guys in!! LOL GOOD LUCK |

Just had a buddy put in his 2 weeks at Nielsen. He was asked to look for people to fire. Its all a budget thing. Bring in new "cheaper" guys. Disgusting practice!! shooting themselves in the foot. loosing all the experience. Don't be surprised if Nielsen comes crumbling down LOL. They reap what they sowe |

I have another comment... all the physical skills and software skills you learn at Nielsen will not transfer over to other companies! Train for 6 wks in FL and then year and half in field and then you get fired and you have nothing LOL |

There is also a point system in place for each testing period. it is there to show your knowledge - they have us sign a form about this on the first day. The schedule changed when I was there as well. Technologies change, so must the teaching curriculum so must life. **yes, they have no problem sending you home unemployed - IT IS THEIR JOB TO DO SO. Have you ever been in management? |

krisply kringle in American Samoa said: can anyone describe what exactly the training school was like (eg. week 1: learned this ... week 2: learned this... etc.)? it changes all the time due to technology. You need to listen, learn and apply. It is kinda like a technical college except it is all hands on. |

Well Mr. Mylc this was spoken like a true Nielsen Instructor. As a matter of fact I have been in management for many years. And I have worked in the communications field for over 23 years.I have had tons of technical training, several schools, seminars, and work shops and so on.And there little school is still a friggin joke, and VERY poorly ran.You sound like a real big supporter of there silly little school. Are you one of there peckerhead instructors? You sure sound like one of them!Dude just read some of these other posts most of them are negitive unlike Mr Nielsen's here. There is a reason for that,I would seriously consider them!He is absoultly correct though, they explain the point system very clearly the first day IN OLDSMAR FLORDIA.Problem is there very vage during the whole interview process, and you will learn all this AFTER you have quit your job and went down there. My advice is run for the hills. There are much better jobs available in the communications Industry. And by the way most training is conducted in a much more professional mannor. My advice to you and anyone else reading these posts is look elsewere. It's whole lot of B.S. to go through for a realitivly low paying job.Good luck! |

8 weeks was a piece of cake - heard some were there 10 - 12 weeks. With any job it takes a certain panache to either be good or not. Knew it was the perfect job for me during the pre training before going to Florida. |

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about how hard the training is at Nielsen. I just completed my 12 week training at the Dunedin location and it was a no brainer!! We had 2weeks of class room training and then we were on the phones for the other 10 weeks. I just completed yet another training class that we had for 2 consecutive days and that class was also a no brainer!! I'm sure the training is very very different at all of the different locations for Nielsen, so don't get me wrong, but I love the Dunedin location very very much!! The training staff there is WONDERFUL and they made class very very fun!! If you want to work for Nielsen join the Dunedin location |

teffie: I think we should make a distinction on the types of training we are talking here, Dunedin is a world apart from Oldsmar. I believe we are talking about a different type of training for you as opposed to installer training. |

xcuse' me teffie but...U reread MY comment, I'm not JUST talking about locations, I'm talking about INSTALLER training, what training did you have?? U know, USB humbs, proprietary hardware and software, over 150 ft. of wiring, etc?? Sorry, if I'm a bit in your face, but you sound a little on the defensive. Another trainer...perhaps?? |

I know about the training for Nielsen and tech jobs aren't the *only* thing they do, I also know that the training for Nielsen is often revised at the last minute. I am NOT a trainer for Nielsen, just in case anyone wants to throw that out there like they're trying to insult me. Teffie was probably being trained as an RI, which that training is a piece of cake. Seriously. The tech training is a lot trickier. From what's been said in the town hall meetings at the call center LOTS of things are about to change, including the technology of what we're working with. I'm sorry that you all got screwed over and Nielsen treated you badly. You should check to see if FL is at at will employment state. At will states can fire you for no reason at all, but if they're not an at will state you might be able to all band together and sue the company for misrepresentation. If that's possible. |
